How can Mink call the Knox Central championship game when his fathe-in-law was the superintendent there 5 or 6 years ago? I seen Walter T Hulett at the game last night with a KC hat on! Is that not a conflict? Sounds like something fishy to me. If I were HC I would want answers. How could both Minks call Clay game when they live in that district?

Officiating was good though.

I don't have a dog in the fight but I thought something was odd last night... This official made several calls in favor of KC. He should have never been on that game.

Officiating was fine.

The "and 1" call that fouled #21 out for HC was bad. Tuner travel before contact. Good olboy system at it finest! Daddy in law wearing a KC hat in the stands cheering for them. Is there not a code of ethics? Does he not have any morals? It was a no win situation for him! Should have never been on game!

The charge call on Turner earlier in the game on the same kid in the same spot was awful. Turner jab stepped in and the kid flopped and went flying.

The second quarter was awful. HC was up 22-8 and dominating the game. I thought the officials or official made a concerted effort to get KC back in it. HC played a box and 1 and had 10+ fouls in the first half. KC was guarding full court and playing aggressive and had 4 fouls. There is no way he should have been calling that game considering his relationship with that school. Itâs a terrible look for 13th region tournament. This needs to be reported to make the KHSAA aware of that relationship.

I thought the 12th region officials did a good job in the region. Much better than the 13th. I still canât believe what I witnessed in the Middlesboro / Harlan City game in the district tournament. It was one of the worse things I have ever seen.

I agree sir and I thought the officiating was subpar to say the least. 21 for HC should be apologized to for the cheap fouls called on him that put him out of the game. He played great for HC in the tourney and deserved much better than he got from the officials IMO.

The Mink brothers called the Clay/Barbourville game and had Langdon on the bench for Clay all night. Langdon played a grand total of 9 minutes combined before he fouled out of the game. That was the first time in his high school career that he had EVER fouled out of a game. Deputy Sheriff in Laurel County and the other a principal at the alternative school in Laurel Co. Both live and work in the 13th region. Definite conflict of interest.

The 2nd and 4th quarters were pretty one sided. At one point in the 2nd the fouls were 9-4 with Harlan at 9. Coleâs 4th foul, Noahâs 4th and Wilsonâs 5th were all terrible calls in the 4th. Especially considering the kid walked twice and it was neither a block nor charge. Giving him a 3 point play was horrendous. Kid grabs Noah and wraps up his arms with no intentional. All the while Harlan still should have won but missed 5-6 clutch free throws.
I find it most funny that only one guy called anything in Harlanâs favor all night. And the two others gave them zero calls. Iâll let you guess which two I didnât see the whole boys tournament until the regional Championship.

Who allowed this to happen? How are the officials selected?
03-11-2020, 04:38 AM
The Mink broâs can call a good game ...however. No way in the world should they been allowed to call a single game in the 13th region tourney. Way way too many conflicts of interest with them and several 13th teams.
03-11-2020, 08:16 AM
Not sure what happened in the game you mentioned but the overall officiating in the 13th wasnât bad this year. There are some that arenât that good but there are some really good ones as well.
03-11-2020, 04:02 PM
I thought for the 13th region tournaments they only used officials from the 12th or 14th region to avoid this type of thing even being said?
03-11-2020, 04:16 PM
How was someone that lives and works in the 13th region allowed to officiate the 13th Region Championship game?
03-11-2020, 06:45 PM
Someone needs to file a complaint with the KHSAA.

I mean, how does the tournament host end up with an insider calling their championship game. This is unbelievable!
03-11-2020, 07:39 PM
The word on the street is that Canady helped Hulett get the super. job and this was payback!
03-11-2020, 07:40 PM
Mink’s called several games in the 13th and never attended one 13th Region association meeting. How is that fair?
03-11-2020, 07:41 PM
It’s up to the official to disclose any conflicts but the assignor from 12th should have known.
03-11-2020, 11:41 PM
The bottom line is, no official with ties to any school should be allowed to call in a tourney game, let alone the regional final. The fact that Mink had called games in the 13th region at all should have made him ineligible for officiating in the 13th region tournament. It is so sad to see him make blatant calls that were in obvious favor of the host team, the team who his father in law was the SI for for years. Up 12 in the 4th and horrible foul call after horrible foul call in favor of KC put them in the perfect position.. not to mention the 5th foul on #21 for HC ended the game right then and there.
I dont know how true this is, but I have heard that mink and his brother also called the KC/NL game in the 1st round... wouldnt be surprised if some fishy things happened there as well.

Word on the street is that formal complaints are being filed. Don't know if it is specifically against the officials, school, or both. Should be interesting to watch.

No actually they didnât call that game. They did call the Clay/Barbourville first round game. Even though they live in London, they call in the 12th region (Iâm not sure why). Didnât see the final, but whether anything was amiss or not, thatâs still a bad look, surprised it was allowed to happen.

Doesnât matter Knox will only play one game at Rupp and itâs over, at least Harlan has something to look forward to next year...
