Hazard 57 Wolfe County 51
#1
Final from the 14th Region Tournament. Congratulations to Coach Al Holland and the Bulldogs. They're the final mountain team to punch their ticket to Rupp and will face a very talented Fern Creek squad on Thursday.
#2
Congrats Dawgs.

Make those FTs and beat Fern Creek. Good luck Hazard.
#3
Anyone got the rebound numbers? Hazard clean the glass all night. Probably the difference a lot of second chance points
#4
When Tolson hit the 3 free throws to put it into overtime. I really thought we had a chance. But hazard bigs just took over. Wolfe got manhandled on the glass tonight.
We had the game going at our pace early and then Hazard slowed it down to a grind. Which they are really good at.
Wolfe just had a couple that didn’t show up tonight. And it hurt them.
Hats off to Hazard, they have been the best team in the region all year. And will be the team that represents us at Rupp Arena.
Hopefully Wolfe can learn from this and come back even better next year.

Big Al gets his 10th regional title. Best ever in the 14th?

Last play of the 1st half, Hall fouled Tolson all the way down the court. The refs wouldn’t blow the whistle, and I knew right then Wolfe wouldn’t win the game.

Let me start by saying congrats Hazard.
Wolfe needed to rebound a lot better to win. Hazard probably scored 15-20 points off of 2nd Chance points. In a game in the 40’s and 50’s that’s a ton of points off Offensive rebounds. Hazard also got Into the bonus and double bonus early in the 2nd half by continually pounding it inside. This game was won by a group of Sr’s that had been to the finals before and wasn’t going to lose. 365 days ago Hazard was in Wolfe County’s locker room, hopefully our boys will use tonight to help them improve over the next 365 days so they can have the chance to finish the deal next year. Wolfe made great strides from last year to this year and I fully expect them to be in this game next year also.
My hats off to Sr Hunter Brewer who grew up so much over the last couple of years as a leader. He accepted a role that few players in today’s game are willing to play to give his team the best chance to win. Those will be big shoes to fill.
I’m also really excited to see how Skylar Ritchie improves this summer. People are so quick to forget that he’s just an 8th grader playing against holdback Sr’s. The experience he got this year will be huge going forward.

C’mon now

Wolfe will be back next year, Good luck hazard.

Watch the video, it doesn’t lie. Hazard was over the back all night long and the refs didn’t blow one whistle. I just tell it like it is, watch the video. Tolson drove down the court with Hall fouling him, then gets flattened by two players when he tries to get a shot off as the buzzer goes off. They just didnt want to give Hall another foul right before the half ended.
#11
Who all will wolf graduate ?
#12
Wolfe returns mostly everyone.
#13
Hunter Brewer graduates. The only player wolf loses.
#14
Brewer only averaged 5 points and 5 rebounds.
But will be really hard to replace his intangibles. Hardest worker on the floor, toughest kid on the floor. Doesn’t care if he ever takes a shot. Will always come up with a big rebound even tho he is 5-9. Kids like that are hard to find in today’s me first basketball.
Was really a joy to watch him compete for Wolfe in his career.

I’ve been waiting on this. Hazard could have won by 90 and you would blame the refs.

Please don’t get on here and diminish Wolfe’s season by complaining about the refs. This team had a great year; and they represented campton and eastern ky perfectly. But fans like you are gonna ruin that by blaming the refs after every single loss.

That’s got to be the worst spin on a statement that I’ve ever witnessed. Yeah, the team had a great year, but by stating that the Officiating favored Hazard in no way could “diminish” the Wolves season. Do I have to post clips of the game on social media showing examples of the poor officiating? Maybe we should start holding people accountable?

If the refs were out to get Wolfe, they wouldn’t have called the foul on the 3-pt shot to send it to overtime.

Wolfe lost this one because they didn’t play well in overtime. They missed an easy one to start OT, then Hazard chews a minute off the clock and scores. Wolfe missed the front end of a one and one, then Hazard chews a little more time and goes to the FT line. After that, Hazard just has to play smart with the ball and hit FTs. If you give Al Holland four minutes and the score is tied, you won’t get many chances to beat him.

I thought Wolfe was a hell of a team all season and I knew the way they fought against Perry last year at Powell County that they would be a force. They’ll be back next year.

Again, I’m the biggest Wolfe Fan boys or girls.
And in no way do I feel like the officiating had any outcome on the game. It was physical on both sides. We’re they fouls that were missed? Yes on both sides.
Hazard shot more free throws because they pounded it inside. And we settled for 3’s and pull up jumpers.
Did Tolson get fouled on the last play of the 1st half? Probably. But it wasn’t called. Just as Pelfry was fouled several times out front and foul wasn’t called.
Refs didn’t decide the outcome of this game. They let the players play and hazard had more players show up and make plays. Wolfe was given every opportunity to win. Hazard made mistakes and missed Ft that let us back into the game. But we didn’t take advantage.
Like i said before, we lost the game because hazard won the battle at the rim. Which I knew they would. And Wolfe couldn’t get to the rim even tho they had advantages at different positions. If your suppose to be a player. You gotta play. And we just didn’t play when we needed it most.

Didn't get to watch the entire thing yet but have watched most of it and thought that the boards were the difference. Hazard had some long stretches where they limited Wolfe to one shot. Rebounding and Hazard's ability to maintain their composure when Wolfe County got hot and their patience on offense carried them.

As a side note, I really enjoyed Coach Noble's commentary during the game.

While it’s true he’s 8th grade but it’s also true he’s a holdback, he turns 16 this year. So you say holdback seniors, he’s also a holdback. He’s got a lot of potential. But this 8th grade thing is overused.
#22
He just turned 15 a month ago. Not sure what your point is, he was still a young 15 year old boy playing with 19 year old men that have been playing varsity basketball for 4 years. The holdback year gives you an advantage more towards the end of your high school career.
#23
How many hold backs play for Hazard?
#24
Hero ball hurt Wolfe down the stretch. Finals minutes of regulation. With Hazard missing free throw Wolfe could have won in regulation. Wolfe was better than I thought. Give them credit.
#25
Wanted to add: I was very impressed with Wolfe County. They were much better than I thought they were going to be. They had some kids step up and hit some very tough, clutch shots. If they keep all of their kids and continue to develop, I could see them beginning next year as the preseason favorite in the 14th.

Wolfe County has no one to blame but themselves. They got destroyed on the boards and at times they got selfish and quit moving the ball resulting in bad shots. Wolfe also missed a lot of open 3’s. In no way shape or form did officiating have anything to do with this loss. Sour grapes for the Wolfeman

I agree Wolfe lost this one on their own taking 3s when they had plenty of time to drive in and quick shots no passing everyone wants to be the hero they had chance after chance to score for once thought it was reffed pretty good no calls for both teams hopefully they learn from this they will be a powerhouse next year in the 14th best of luck to Hazard at state and Wolves you need to watch your game against Hazard over and over and see what you did wrong I was hoping for the upset I’m a Wolfe fan forever learn from your mistakes I’ll be rooting for you next year and think you can win it I won’t sugar coat it for you can’t learn anything blaming someone else

Wilgus Tolson — 21 points
Made 7 of his 19 shots — 3 of 10 from the three point line

Jaz Johnson — 11 points
Made 4 of his 14 shots — 1 of 10 from the three point line

Sawyer Thompson — 11 points
Made 5 of his 11 shots — 1 of 4 from the three point line

Not overused at all. The kid is gonna be a dynamite player. Like another poster says holding back does nothing for you in the early years

I think Hazards ability to deny certain players the ball led to bad shots. They was just a few made shots away from winning. Wolfe has players that can be “The Hero.” Wilgus Tolson was a hero in the district championship game and he almost pulled it off again in the regional championship. He also came up big in defeating Knott and so did Sawyer. I agree though they should have passed the ball more and they should have been more patient on offense.
