Scott County 65 Lexington Catholic 62
#1
Final from the 11th Region Tournament. Congratulations to Coach Tim Glenn and the Scott County Cardinals.

Gritty performance by Scott County. Fast paced first half was followed by a sloppy third quarter for both teams. Lexington Catholic gets in some foul trouble early in the 4th. Scott County does enough to hold on to a seven point lead late in the game. Great games from Terren Hamilton, Mikaleb Coffey, and Chase Grigsby of Scott County.

Game was broadcast on Prepspin and can be found at the following link:

Harlan County or Knox Central will face Scott County in the Opening Round on Wednesday night. Defending Terren Hamilton looks like it will be one of the biggest hurdles for the 13th Region champion to overcome.

A couple interesting points: Scott County is the first school in 11th region history to win the 11th region 4 consecutive years. Last year was the first time a school won the 11th region three years in a row since before integration.

I am very proud of and happy for Tim Glenn. He is one of the nicest people and was one of the hardest working coaches anywhere. The system he uses is the same system Scott County has used since the 97-98 season. The system is based primarily on individual player development and is has been proven to work. It's not the system for coaches that don't won't to work very hard.

It's interesting also that many of last year's Scott County JV team members elected to go to Great Crossing. So, other than the big man, most of Scott County's players were back up JV players on Scott County last year.

Lastly, I feel very bad for Daniel Brown at Henry Clay. Brown has great teams year after year at Henry Clay but has never taken a team to the state tournament. I thought with Scott County rebuilding this could be his year.

I expected Henry Clay to win after seeing them in December. I imagine you have to be at your best just about every night in the 11th Region postseason.

You'll probably have a hard time finding anyone who'll disagree with the bolded. Coach Glenn has been a class act in any interaction that I've had with him. Like you, I'm glad to see him get to Rupp after what you can only imagine has been a tough season for him in terms of being asked to take over a program and fill the shoes of a coach like Billy Hicks.

I think the Scott County administrators were very smart to choose a coach that would continue the system that Billy Hicks had put in place at Scott County. Let's also not forget the contributions of coaches Wilhite and Mattingly. By the way, I talked briefly with coach Glenn this summer. He volunteered one piece of advice Billy Hicks gave him when Glenn was named head coach. He told me Hicks told him to, "Get in the gym and work your tail off." Tim told he responded, "Yes sir." I have no doubt that coach Glenn outworked every coach in the region.

I thought this was Lexington Catholic 's year to make it to the Sweet 16. Congrats to Scott County. Great seeing you post rojas.

Big upset, right? I know Scott County is a perennial power, but they had a losing record going into the postseason and barely made it out of their district.

Moderate upset that Scott County came out of the 11th, but not shocked that they beat Lexington Catholic. The two played a very close game early in the year and have such a rivalry and familiarity with one another that their games are going to be wars regardless.

This wasn't the most talented Lexington Catholic squad. That's not me trying to knock their kids because they are talented and accomplished a lot-- it's just that some of the more talented Lexington Catholic teams typically had one or two high level D1 athletes (even if some are football players), and I don't know if that is the case this season.

I watched all of this one and Terrin Hamilton was the difference. He gave them fits period but was invaluable as a safety valve against pressure-- if Scott Scott County's guards were trapped, he'd work to the middle of the zone and they'd throw it up to him and let him go up over everyone and high point the ball. Keeping a body on him to try and jam him on some of those lobs while also trying to trap the ball let others stretch their pressure vertically. That, the Knights going 5 of 22 from three versus Scott County's 7 of 13 clip, and Coffey's hustle plays that aren't completely reflected by a stat line (tipped balls, saves) was the difference in this one.

What high level player has Lex. Cath. had in the last 10 yrs? Go to some of there games and that Johnson kid, is up there with any player they have had in awhile, and didn't Lex Cath beat Cov. Cath? Agree that Hamilton was the difference, but the discipline that Scott County had keeping the boy in the middle were they couldn't get trapped in Lex. Cath deadly 1-2-2 press was the main key.

Wasn't trying to limit it to 10 years, so some that I'd thought of:

Jack Whitman, Vee Sanford, Brian Smith, Demetrius Green, Jaylen Beckham, Reese Ryan, Taylor Martin, Zan Payne, Harrison Morton, William Graham, Scott Schuete, Dylan Avare, Cornell Burbage, Ben Wilson. Know that there are probably some that I've left out, especially athletes from other sports.

The Lexington Catholic vs. Scott County rivalry began in 98 and you'll never convince me otherwise.

Best basketball game in the history of the Sweet 16.

Oh I agree on that 200%, I was in the front row. I was just commenting on your post, it just said that Lexington Cath has had more talented teams, it really didn't specify the years and about Scott County might have misunderstood. My two favorite high school teams of all times #1 1998 Scott County and #2 1979 Lafayette team which had two players on that team that were from Scott County.
