I think this says a lot about the Panthers. Up 4 with under a min to go and had two really bad turnovers while getting pressed. Could have use their two guards tonight. But to lose last two games to Paintsville and Martin county by 1 and who are arguably 2 of the best 3 teams in the region without a healthy squad shows that they still can cause some trouble in the post season. Keep battling Panthers

Will they be getting any players back for the postseason?

Pugh came back last game against Paintsville. Hall will be out till maybe October or November and Lockhart is out of his boot from what I saw but idk if he will get released in time for post season.

Nice win for Martin .

Also in the contest Trey James broke the KHSAA record for career blocks

Great win for the Cards. I don't understand why Justice didn't try to kill some clock late in the game. About 30-40 seconds to go, up one, and they shoot a three, which goes in, great! Still, I would've held the ball, MC has some good guards though, may have been a tough job.

Wouldnât you miss their contributions (whoever that would be)? Riley also wouldnât be getting as much touches, I wouldnât think...In my opinion, itâs a completely different team and gameplan, which might not always be better...just an observation

Region championship game last year those 2 came off the bench in first half and started and played the whole second half along with Roberts, Watkins and Billiter. Hall before I injury this year was shooting right at 50% from 3. He is also one of these best on ball defenders in the Region even according to D&D sports. Plus he is the point guard who controls everything for the Panthers. Now Rylee is having to do that and itâs taking all of his energy. Lockhart didnât get a chance to show anything this year but heâs arguably the best jump shooter and passer on the team. Also he is the backup point guard who also can run the team. Sammons is only shooting around 30% from 3 if he has those two he would get so many open corner 3s that he use to get instead Of having to shoot deep contested 3s now.
Take away any teams 2 of there best 3 players in this region and letâs see how they do.

To act as if Pikeville wouldnât be significantly better with their starting backcourt is asinine.

Moving forward though, referencing âD&D sportsâ as the authoritative name in high school basketball doesnât carry a whole lot of weight.

I understand what your saying but D&D sports is the only local sports guy that promotes our local players. Mountain top sports donât even know half the kids names. I was just trying to get my point across. For example. They played East Ridge early in the season Lockhart only game which he got hurt in the 3rd. Sammons has 27, Hall had 20 and Robinson had 19. A lot of open shots and space on the floor. I believe itâs the most 3s Sammons has hit in a game this season because he was getting open looks.

I agree with ya I was just trying to use him because he does know about these players to get my point across. Last thing Iâll say about this. Hall and Lockhart change the whole dynamic of Pikevilles team. Right now you only have Sammons who is able to create shots for others along with creating his own. With the guards there they are able to create for everyone along with getting Sammons open shots. It opens up the whole offense. Right now you have Harris who can get his own but isnât the best a creating for others. That leaves Sammons having to run the team. Create for everyone including himself. All while asking him to rebound and score 20 a game while getting chased the whole game. East Ridge game was a small sample what this team could have been. Pikeville scored the most points they have all season and everyone was getting open looks.

Pikeville has good athletes and a great coaching staff you can never count them out.

D&D is actually not the only local sport guys that promotes our kids. We also have The Scouting Report who does just as good of a job and as an area we needed. D&D canât cover it all. Daryll stays primarily in souther WV but also get to travel some Martin co and Pike co teams. TSR fills that Johnson co Magoffin Floyd co hole. Pretty blessed to have both. Just hope they realize there is plenty of room and play nice together.

Big difference between years of operation vs a few months don't ya think? The thing is, Iâve support both. Just D&D alone cannot cover the area. We needed another. You just donât see D&D cover a Paintsville now weâve got someone. Donât see D&D at P Burg much. Now weâve got someone Betsey Layne, local middle school games were very hit a miss but now we see more of them. Thatâs the deal. Itâs all about our young athletes and if someone else started doing it would that still be too much? The more coverage the better. Try to start supporting Both because we need em.

It took the Panthers some time to gel with all the injuries. Itâs a completely different team with the starting back court out and they donât have a true PG. They are playing good basketball with a young team, they just gotta cut out youthful mistakes. They will be a tough out for any 15th region team.
