Martin County 67 Johnson Central 57

Final from Inez.

Huge win for the Cardinals. Congrats to them.

Really solid win Martin Co. Trey James had a huge impact on this game. JC had several layups that were missed by just having Trey James presence on the court. It looked like a lot of the players were altering their shot way too much even when Trey was several feet a way.

This game was basically even through the first 3 quarters, but Martin CO’s role players stepped up and hit open shots when they got the opportunity. JC on the other hand couldn’t buy a bucket in the 4th. They had a possession where one player missed four 3 pointers in a row that were all open.

Another surprise from the 15th. JC impresses me the most in this balanced region.

^ Was it really a surprise? JC is 6-3 in the region and 1-3 in district play... and they impress you the most in the region?

Central won’t make it out of the district tournament unless they improve on their rebounding and defense. Both seem to be nonexistent right now. Martin is peaking now but they can’t beat Paintsville.

I agree. JC having a rough season so far. Dropping both games to Martin Co and also their first matchup with cross town rival Paintsville. In recent interview with Martin county Big, Martin co gives no credit to the Tigers in their previous win over the Cards, so I look for that game to be even more intense next time around. Tigers currently have the top spot in the District with Martin co not far behind. I feel like there is a little more space ahead of Magoffin co now. Magoffin started off with some good wins and close loses but seem to be taking a step back as of late. JC’s lack of a dominant player in the paint is proving to be an issue that they desperately need to figure a way to work around.

It's been 37 years (1983) since Sheldon Clark/Martin County has been to the Sweet 16...... with the way Martin County has been playing, that streak may end in 2020.

JC may not have the best record thus far... but never count Tommy & his team out.

I’m not sure what your question is? JC has impressed me the most in a weak region??? Or, would you like to know why they have impressed me the most? Their defensive intensity in the games I have watched has been most impressive, as well as their ability to get to the rim/foul line.

I agree one hundred percent. Tommy is an excellent coach and you can never count him out.

Great win and season sweep for Martin County. I'm glad to see that. However, if they wind up playing in that 2/3 game in the District....I dont think they beat Johnson Central three times. I hope if they do play I am wrong.

Another solid win for Martin County, they seem to keep getting better as the year goes on, this region is very open and several teams could cut down the nets in March. Wouldn't be surprised at all to see Martin County win the region. Especially when you consider the region tournament games are usually grind it out slugfest, and with James anchoring the middle for Martin Co, they would seem to give them a big advantage in those types of games, just a thought.

Happy seeing Martin Co doing well, just not against my Eagles!

Great win for Martin County and James gets a little better every game. Having said that, Johnson Central has been counted out of the region before but still ended up representing the region. Don't overlook Johnson and that can't be emphasized as the Eagles will always be in the mix come regional time. Congratulations to Martin County on the victory.

MC is starting to peak at the right time, they have tried different looks but going fast and feeding James is working best for them.
MC will be hosting the District Tournament this year.

They simply beat a bad Johnson Central team which has no point guard or center. I wouldn't be buying any Sweet 16 rooms or tickets yet.

You just never know what you will get with Martin Co. At this point, I wouldnt be shocked if they got beat out early in post season play by a lower tier team or if they made it to Rupp. Congrats Cards on a nice region win.

I played in the 15th region in the 90’s and this year is the weakest we have been as a region in a long time. Martin Co must be playing a lot better then they did in the All A. Anybody could win this region this year.

15 is so weak Shelby Valley I thought Would be the best team , but never seam to win the big game .
