Open Job: Frederick Douglass
#1
Brian Landis to Georgia State.
#2
Happy for Landis. He has a huge future in coaching. Learned from the best. This opening is going to bring coaches out of the woodwork. Should be interesting...
#3
I would say Mcpeek is the in house hire for this job.
#4
So, will Nate McPeek get the job?

He was named the interim Head Coach. I would say he the man unless a high profile coach applies.

Good move I think. Heard they are more than likely moving to 6A after next year anyway. Who wants to deal with those 3 monsters from Louisville

Doesn’t he have some baggage?

Yes, he does.

Nate McPeek was the head football coach at Fairview and was part of the crew (along with superintendent Bill Musick and principal Garry McPeek...Nate's uncle) that allowed an ineligible student-athlete to compete for more than one season on their team and earned sanctions from the KHSAA that included forfeiture of 19 football games, including their 2012 1A runner-up trophy, the team's ineligibility from the 2013 playoffs, a $5000 fine, and probation through the 2017 football season.

There were other improprieties that were alleged, but the one mentioned in this KHSAA press release was the only one that they were held responsible for in the end.

Garry McPeek & Nate McPeek both resigned as soon as the investigation began, although the superintendent maintained that neither had been asked to do so at the time they tendered their resignations. (Admission of guilt, much? :eyerollSmile

Nate McPeek took an assistant coaching job at Tucker High School in Georgia the following year. I'm unsure as to whether or not he ended up having his eligibility to coach in Kentucky suspended or not. I believe his position at Frederick Douglass was his first coaching job back in Kentucky.

Garry McPeek had been hired as the Athletic Director at Frederick Douglass, and in a strange move, he named Nate McPeek as the offensive coordinator for the football team before they had hired their head coach, Brian Landis. ("Congratulations coach, the program is yours...and by the way, you have to let my nephew run your offense.")

I believe Garry McPeek has since retired from his position as AD, and Nate McPeek is currently the interim head coach following Landis' resignation.

Garry is now an assistant coach at Georgetown College after leaving Douglas with some very questionable action (something to do with addresses)

Best job in the state right now.

No kidding, I think this is a job that Justin Haddix is very interested in.

They will cheat at sometime during tenure. Question is does FD want the * in front of the name?

This is the one place I thought we would eventually loose him to.

Is the program going to be able to keep the outside counties/ district players into the dorms/ apartments across the parking lot? #Beingsarcastic but true.

The band is breaking up. First the quarterback coach was forced to leave for blatantly breaking the rules then the AD leaves amid rumors of violations and now the HC. I don’t think this was the plan when this group of buddies got together. Three years of building/recruiting a team to win a championship then to be close but denied then break up. In my opinion the heat got too hot in the kitchen and I think it’s going to get hotter. Also, I completely disagree that this is a good job. Things have gotten messy over there and there’s more to come.

THE BOOM is coming down. Mass exit from staff and soon players.

15 page report from KHSAA is coming out. HC did not tell ANYONE before he left.

High football IQ means good at cheating?

I want to hear more about this. Who was the QB coach forced to leave and why? What were the rumored violations that got Garry McPeek to leave?

100% agree with this. People not close to Lexington have no clue whats been going on or how they got that good that quick. Don't get me wrong Landis is a VERY, VERY good Coach, but he had some MAJOR built in advantages.

Not sure about anyone, he told his players yesterday.

Of course he told his players after he confirmed he got the GS/LB job. He did not tell anyone his interest and that he was interviewing, not to mentioned did you really think he would tell his players "Yo, i am leaving great opportunity for me in the college ranks, oh and by the way KHSAA is coming down on y'all". Lol

If a McPeek is a coach or AD, then trouble can be guaranteed to be lurking nearby.

Schools Garry has been at in NEKY: Greenup County, Russell, Fairview, Boyd County, East Carter and Lawrence County.

Schools in NEKY that had money missing when Garry Left: Greenup County, Russell, Fairview, Boyd County, East Carter and Lawrence County.

Only one of the schools considered prosecuting him, but my understanding is that the money was paid back after he scraped it up from family members.
