Martin County 51 Johnson Central 48 (Overtime)
#1
Final from JCHS

Great game to watch. Thank you to WYMT for airing it live.

Johnson Central had a lot of great looks late, just couldn't get anything to fall. Also missed a free throw late that would've tied the ball game up.

Hats off to the Cardinals. The ball just seemed to bounce their way tonight.

The region is going to be a lot of fun this year folks!

The 15th region is really hard to get a read on , one week JC looks head and shoulders above everyone, next week Shelby Valley, now Martin County making a statement. Pikeville always tough and Paintisville still in the mix. I would still bet on JC but not by a lot.

^ Just curious, but how does one come to the thought that JC(6-4) looks head and shoulders better than anyone else?

As of today, you have:

Cross Lanes Christian (2-4) - W
Ashland - L
SV - W by 3
Union - L
Oneida (6-6) W by 6
Bell Co (4-6) W by 3
Harvest Prep - L
Perry Co (4-9) W
Sayre (6-7) W by 2
Martin Co - L

The Cards was the better team last night, more fight.

The season is still early so lets not to crazy one way or the other.

Congrats to the Cards for a well earned win.

How does a projected top 3 player in the Region (May) shoot 4-21 from the field. Not making shots do something else to help your team instead of firing them up. JC misses Ferrel and J.Rice when it comes to team 3pt shooting. MC done what their suppose to. Feed James. Makes open 3s when D collapses. And force JC to shoot deep. This Region is wide open and Region tournament will be fun.

There isn’t one great team in the 15th region this year. A lot of teams are going to struggle to show consistency. It’s just going to come down to who is playing well during the tourney bc each of the top 5-6 teams could beat each other at any time.

JC is an interesting team this year. They have some really solid wing players. What they lack is a clear point guard to run the team and a true center who can get rebounds and be a rim protector. I fully expect this team to improve and players will settle into their roles as the year goes on.

Two surprises this year. 1) Isaiah May has really struggled to be an efficient scorer. JC is asking him to do a lot as a ball handler and a rebounder and I wonder if that is making him struggle. 2) there isn’t a true 3 pt shooter on the team and the entire team is struggling to hit 3s. Right now they’ve made 26% of their 3s and only two players (May and Vanhoose) have made more than five 3s this year.

I think JC looked head and shoulder above the rest after the Mountain School Boy Classic, where they beat Perry Central by 20 (a preseason favorite in the 14th) plus a win against Lex Sayre, and had a previous win notched against Shelby Valley; JC was 5-1 at that point against Ky competition (I don't put much stock in out of state wins or losses since I do not know much about those teams), so yes I believe they looked "head and shoulders" above rest of the 15th at that time. Then they lost to Martin County (who also beat Perry too), at home, so all of a sudden, JC doesn't look as good. So, the point of my post was clearly that the 15th region is hard to gauge right now because there are several strong teams who are clearly in the mix (which I mentioned). Hope this further influx of information clears it up for you....

Smith-Mills locked him up all night.

MC played very well at JC. They have improved a lot from last year. We'll see how far Coach James and his squad make it this post season. Should shape up for a very entertaining 57th district. Jordan Dalton stepped up big time for MC

Congrats to the Cards!

Congrats to Martin Co for getting a tough district win on the road which is never easy in the 57th district. JC will have to bounce back and try to get a district win at Paintsville next week.

I am back. Martin County got lucky and Johnson Central not as good as I thought. Again, a terrible game, district and region that someone will have to win. No way the coach ever thought he would get the game by the one kid that made the three pointers. Disappointed in McKenzie for losing this game.

mc will be a good team in the region this year. should get the 1 seed in district if they can finish things off at home against JC
