13th region holiday tournaments
#1
How much favoritism does 13th region refs show their teams when playing out of region teams? I hear it was really bad overall at the tournament in corbin and the tournament at south. If it's true does this actually help mountain teams get better? Four surprises for me: Corbin playing close to john Hardin, clay beating Knoxville tn, south beating St. X and bell winning their game. Also, has to be harder and harder to fill these tournaments in the future if that is going on. Thoughts?

I watched several of the games and it’s pretty bad. If I were a coach and coached at a good school I would never come to the 13th.

Actually surprised Corbin can still get teams in theirs. South tournament had some typical bad 13th region officiating but nothing that looked completely biased. Letting one of the refs do a Bell County game was a really bad look, but he's so bad you couldn't tell if he was helping or hurting Bell. But if a 13th region team goes out of region to a tournament, you can guarantee that they're getting the same treatment.

Just got back from St X/South. Refs missed a few in our favor, mostly the block vs charge variety. One of our guys was clearly out of control and got bailed out on a blocking call.

They had a couple very obvious make up calls go their way. Refs, actually, were very tolerant of a few St X fans who were getting mouthy. On the technical, I’m not sure if they hit coach Klein or the bench (crowd comments).

IMO, SL matched up well with St X and the officiating didn’t cost the Tigers the game

For the most part st x pressed and trapped South played zone. Ur naturally gonna get more fouls pressing as hard and physical as st x plays than south playing a zone. The refs could have actually called several more than they did on st x. St x settled for a ton of threes on offense instead of being more physical down low to draw a foul

As far back as I can remember Corbin and Clay have gotten the best whistles. Nothing has abs will ever change.

As an official if you don’t stay in good graces with the Corbin faithful you get black balled from falls tourney. Just ask the assigning secretary Kevin Hembree.

Clay vs. Knox. Cath. wasn't too badly called. I will say Clay benefitted slightly more than KC from the officiating, but calls were missed both ways. However, I can’t understand why on earth KC’s coach didn’t use his BIGS (all caps because his bigs were 7-8” taller than Clay’s) more 🤷🏻. KC going scoreless in the final period is what lost the game...not the officiating!
