Great game by both teams. Breathitt came out on fire. Somerset settled in and controlled the game late. Big congrats to Breathitt! You had a great season, and had a huge following. This team reminded me of what used to be. Nowhere to go but up!

First, I’m one of the people who was on the strength of schedule bandwagon making a case against Breathitt. That said, that team is good. And once you see them in person, you realize who good they really are. They took the fight to Somerset all game long.

I think what saved Somerset was was the amount of games they’ve battled for this season and the back was never really against the wall outside of the first quarter.

Now it’s time to rest up for the game next week. Gonna be a tall task!

Breathitt was better than I expected and really held their own in the trenches for the most part, which I did not expect. They jumped out to an early 13-0 lead before the Jumpers even got their socks on. Somerset settled in after that and controlled the game overall for the rest of the way but it didn't feel secured until the rain really started coming down in the 4th quarter. Hats off to Breathitt, they were ready to prove the doubters wrong. Collins is a hell of a football player.

Jumpers did a good job of settling in after finding themselves in an early 13-0 hole to close the game out on a 40-12 run. Grundy took the game over and Somerset got good hard nosed running out of Smith and Garland late. Need to buckle down and clean some things up for next week, can't spot a team like Mayfield 13 points.

I had 40-21 in the prediction thread so the final margin was about what I expected-- the way we got to that final margin was not how I expected. I thought Somerset would jump out early while Breathitt got adjusted to playing someone as good as they were. I thought Breathitt would settle in and play well after that. Instead the Bobcats scored on their first 2 plays before the Jumpers knew what happened. To their credit Somerset didn't panic and took the lead before the first quarter ended.

Somerset's offensive line played really well and controlled Breathitt's defensive front. Except for a bad snap when Somerset was in the red zone a fumble I think Breathitt County only stopped Somerset on their first drive and on their last drive when they were trying to run clock.
Not much time to celebrate this one. There's an extremely good Mayfield waiting in Lexington.

I was thinking 35-21 Somerset prior to the game. Close and proud of the Bobcats this season. I do think the lack of top tier competitors had an impact on them.

I was thinking it would be a close game early and Somerset would pull away late. I sure didn't see Breathitt County jumping out like they did. Congrats to both teams.

I’m kind of surprised at this score. Prior to this seeing this final score and the final score between mayfield and beechwood I had Somerset picked to win 2A but as of right now I would have to change and pick Mayfield... congratulations to the Bobcats on a great season!

It was 13-0 Breathitt County in the first 3 minutes then 40-12 Somerset the rest of the way. The Bobcats came out fired up and caught the Jumpers flat but after that they really had no answer for Somerset's offense.

That being said I understand you picking Mayfield. They absolutely should be considered the favorites.

With the RPIs as close as they really no favorite imo just good ole football game between 2 powers. Looking forward to great game.

I've got to give the Bobcats credit. They were undefeated coming in, but, had played no one of Somerset's caliber and I questioned them coming in. More than playing a weak schedule, they were 13-0 because they were a talented team capable of playing with anyone in there class. Losing to the Jumpers is no disgrace. They're a deep, talented, well coached, balanced and experienced team. They have been a proven commodity all season long. I think Somerset and Mayfield have very similar teams in a lot of areas. Next week should be a dandy. Don't really think either team would be considered much of a favorite or underdog. They're very evenly matched on both sides of the ball.

I took three things from this game.. one, Breathitt is better than everyone makes them out to be. Two, they were extremely tired come end of third quarter and three, Somerset was the better team and wanted it more. It was scary at first but you don’t come out swinging on the jumpers without them pushing back. Just shows how elite this Somerset team is to be down 13-0 within three minutes of this game and then come back to win 40-25! Impressive and congratulations to the Jumpers on going to state! Let’s go Krogering 🥳

I really have to question a couple of coaching decisions by Breathitt. I don't understand why they started chasing point on conversions when it was 21-19. With the way the teams were scoring at that point I thought it was a bad decision and put them down two scores when Somerset scored their next touchdown. Also, after Somerset had the bad snap forcing a punt and then turned it over with a fumble Breathitt had scored to cut it to 34-25 and had the ball near midfield. They seemed to have the momentum at that point and decided to punt on 4th and 5 or 6. Somerset drove down, scored and pretty much sealed the deal. Even though Somerset hadn't scored on their first two drives of the 2nd half they had pretty much stopped themselves with the bad snap and fumble. Breathitt was struggling to stop Somerset but seemed to be in rhythm on offense. I really felt like they needed to go for it there to give themselves a chance.

Really shocked this game was even reasonably close. Much respect to Breathitt—you guys must have been WAY better than I thought.

Somerset converting the 4th and 11 in the first quarter really changed the whole tone of the game. I agree with Walt, Breathitt should’ve never punted on the 4th and 6 near midfield

There were a few great runs by talented players on both teams. The one I will remember most did not count as it was called back due to a penalty. The Somerset Kid trucked about 4 Bobcats and it was a beautifully powerful run.

Guess you missed the Collins kid run for Breathitt a second play of the game. Breaking tackles and trucking bunnies for about 80 yards?

He had a tremendous run in the losing effort for Breathitt. Great player. Hope he goes somewhere and plays.

Nope. Saw that one and like I said there were a few great runs by talented players.

They were both great runs.

Somerset ended up with over 500 yards of offense on a rainy night.

Sheron was 15-22 for 209 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Sheron also led the rushing attack with 15 carries for 107 yards.
Garland added 12 carries for 82 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Cam Austin carried 15 times for 77 yards.
Jase Bruner finished with 7 carries for 50 yards and a touchdown.

Kade Grundy led the way receiving with 10 catches for 145 yards and 2 touchdowns while Carson Guthrie finished with 3 catches for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Very balanced effort for Somerset in some rough weather in the 2nd half. After the first 3 and out they pretty much had their way with the Bobcat defense.

One last observation: Breathitt County needs to go back to the block letter B on their helmets. I like the new logo but not on their helmets. I think the classic look was iconic in Kentucky high school football.

Breathitt definitely was tired, playing way too many kids both ways. I noticed this in the Walton Verona game as well, although the score was already in hand. Interested in how many Jumpers were 2-way players? Great year Bobcats and good luck to Somerset.

We had several playing both ways but not the full game.. you’ve got Bruner who is the middle linebacker who also played running back, Garland who is outside line backer and also played running back, #5 who played wide receiver and also corners.. point is, they didn’t play both ways the whole 48 minutes like most of Breathitt did.
