Last time these two played, we saw some Chippyness towards the end of the game.

Johnson Central will not play anybody if they lose to Harlan County. You're sounding like a certain fan of another highly ranked 4A team. :lmao:

Nothing rubs people the wrong way more than telling them that their team has no chance to win and nothing motivates an underdog more to over achieve.

It is why so many people around the state always pull for Highlands' opponents, years after Dale Mueller left the helm. It is why so many people now pull for Boyle County's opponents. Johnson Central fans should not forget what it felt like to have their teams disrespected in such a manner.

Obviously, HC is a longshot to upset JC but I have seen some strange things happen in sports. I remember when NCAA #1 ranked Virginia basketball team led by 7'4" All American Ralph Sampson lost to NAIA #4 ranked Chaminade 77-72.

I don't always listen to Coach Matney's pregame comments, but I have never heard him take a win for granted or disrespect that night's opponent. Upsetting an overwhelming favorite in sports and denying them a shot at the title is a feeling only topped by winning a championship yourself.

Although, they don't throw the ball as often as they should, they are able to keep defenses honest and lets be honest, they really haven't had to. They have athletes all over the field and you can tell these kids have hit the weight room hard in the off season. In my opinion they are the most physical team in the 606 area code and they play with a "chip on their shoulder" mentality. With that being said, Harlan County has had a good year, but their journey stops Friday night in Paintsville. Johnson Central wins 55-14.

JC did throw for over 300 yards last Friday. But yeah, so far, we have not had to throw it. I am glad to see that we can throw, because I believe that was what killed us last year. I mean, anything can happen, but I expect to see the Eagles roll in this one.

I hope to see JC continue to open up and utilize the passing game. Preece had probably the best passing game of his 4 years last week. I think Preece could get into a really good rhythm during these first couple of rounds and make JC more formidable than what they usually are by not being one dimensional every play.

If JC continues to pass more than usual, future opponents will have less practice time to prepare for their running game. The Golden Eagles' experienced backfield is not going to forget how to run the ball.

They’ve had so many great teams during the Matney era at JC. His coaching staff is excellent and they all do a great job coaching these kids.
