Corbin @ Wayne 11/15
#1
Well we might as well start discussing it. I look for this rematch to be just as exciting as the first time around, with a whole lot more at stake. There will be a few differences this time I believe. Field conditions should be a little better barring any heavy rain. That should help Wayne open their passing game up some and spread Corbin out of the box to give Sloan some more space while running. It’ll also help corbins passing game and spread Wayne out just the same for corbins run game. I haven’t followed Wayne since their win, but I’d imagine they are playing the same or better if no injuries. Corbin has sparked a little bit lately and playing noticeably better. A tough game following Wayne against somerset ended in a loss, but most would say corbin played pretty well. Last week the offense to me looked like a team we haven’t saw maybe all season. Very sharp, aggressive, and playing with a chip on the ole shoulder. The defense looked pretty good against a much improved KC team only giving up 14 (7 came from a scoop and score). Whatever the end result, I think both teams will know they’ve played in a tough, physical football game when its all said and done.

Thoughts?????

Is Sloan healthy?
#3
Wayne has better coaches and of Sloan is healthy they have the best player on the field. Those 2 plus home field and Wayne should win this game by 7-10.
#4
Corbin by a TD or less.
#5
I’ll take Haddix 7 days a week. I like Corbin in a 35-21 win.

1st: Corbin couldn’t beat Wayne at home, so that makes me think it will not happen at Wayne Co.
2nd: KHSAA stats: Corbin offense is the worst scoring team that is left in 4A football.
3rd: Slone best player on field
4th: Shawn Thompson is the better head coach, but we all know it is over all staff. Don’t know any of those asst.
5th: winner get to go play Johnson Central ( Yikes)
I would like to see Dawgs win, but a big mountain to climb.
Cards 31 Dawgs 17

I like Corbin 35-21 too, but I don't think it will happen.

This game is going to be really tough, on BOTH teams. I sure hope the weather holds out because I definitely believe it was a mitigating factor last game.

Good luck to both teams for an injury free contest!!

On what statistics is Shawn Thompson a better coach than Justin Haddix?

I mean no disrespect to either. Both are great coaches. Just curious.
#17
I look at what Haddix did at Perry County and Shawn has done at Wayne Co..
Corbin is a special program and tons of tradition. The next coach at Corbin will have success just like Haddix has. There are special programs in the state: Belfry, Boyle, Danville, Trinity, St. X Bowling Green, Williamsburgand Corbin and Breathitt Co.
Schools that has a ton of tradition.
County Schools has a uphill challenge than Independent Schools.

I’m not saying Haddix isn’t a good coach. Football is all about having a great staff. You can ask Coach French, Chuck Smith and Haywood and Hilton. Must have quality asst.
Look at Whitley and Middlesboro. Both were BAD last year. Admin. hired top coaches and look what they have done.

Basically what you’re saying is any coach can come to those type schools and win but they can’t unless you’re a Shawn Thompson at Wayne County.

Corbin has a great staff, Hell I could coach at middlesboro and Whitley district and be a great coach this year, maybe the two weakest district in the state this year, . :dudecomeon:

I’m always nice and I’ve been told my gene pool is very small, whatever that means? 😂😂

I honestly don’t know who will win? The weather really changed the game for both teams so a lot will change this time around I think. But as far as WC winning @ corbin, while they deserved to win because they made the plays to do so, a lot had to go right for them to do it. If the same situation happened again for them, the odds of them pulling it off are very low, it was to begin with. An onside recovery, missed XP’s etc. but give them credit because they did pull it off.

The only other argument I disagree with is the head coaches. Haddix did a decent if not a good job at PCC with what he had. One could make an argument that WC is a way better program overall than PCC if you took both coaches out of it. Also, while Corbin does have some tradition, I don’t think just anyone could come in and have the success that haddix has had here. Jewell really didn’t, and was slowly getting worse every year. He had one title game appearance with an easy trip to it in a weak field. He also played a pretty average schedule. Haddix year after year is bringing in top teams in the state. He’s also developing kids and getting them to the next level and has helped with the TCSA feeder program. You’re correct about the assistant coaches. We lost a lot last year with players and personnel. That has showed this year.

If Wayne is the favorite this time around, it isn’t by much I wouldn’t believe. Home field advantage is in their favor, but the last game took a lot of low probability things to happen to win. I do think Corbin is playing better, or they did last week, than when we played the first time around. Wayne might be as well. I think if our defense plays the way they did the first time around, we’ll win. Just because our offense is looking better than it was.

Either way, you’re right. Neither are gonna get past JC.

Hound, I agree with most of this except for the last part. Sure, if the Hounds win they get JC. But like I always say, anything can happen on a Friday night on a football field. Have faith my brotha, stranger things have happened. Most folks in the state didnt give Corbin a chance last year against Boyle County, including me, but you see how that turned out. Good luck!

I’m just curious, and I don’t want to change the thread topic, or even debate it, I’m just curious as to why you think it. But why does a county school have a disadvantage compared to an independent school? I personally believe they have the advantage because they have a larger school district to choose from. Especially with Corbin. When you look at the county schools they play, and the geographical area they have to pull kids from, it’s much more than a district like corbin has, with more population as well. I’ll admit corbin is somewhat of an anomaly in it all, but there isn’t many ind. schools that play in the larger classes, public ind. schools anyways.

No you’re absolutely right. It’s tough, because I’m like you I believe anything can happen, and I believe in my young hounds. But I’m a realist as well. For the record, and people can go back and look, I said the hounds would beat BC last year. I knew what we had, what we had faced, and our game plan was spot on. But that’s neither here nor there. The winner either way will face a tall task next week. The odds of winning the next two weeks after this game are very low for both Corbin and Wayne. But I’ll still be there rooting for them.

This post contradicts itself. County schools have it tougher, yet three of the schools mentioned are county schools. Two are privates and four are independent schools.

As far as all this “the coach doesn’t matter” talk, that’s crap. If that was the case then why didn’t every coach between Cotton Adams and Justin Haddix compete at a high level consistently? Haddix has the program at a level it hasn’t been at since the late 80’s or early 90’s. The good ole boy network almost killed the program and Haddix has bucked that at every turn. Sure it’s pissed some people off and most of those are his biggest critics. Anyone who put the kids and program first is very happy with what Haddix has done here.

Hounds win by 14. They shot themselves in the foot in the last game. I don’t think that’ll happen again.

They certainly did! Friday will determine how well they've learned their lesson.
