The misinformation on this thread is unreal. It’s not that difficult. KHSAA spells it out very clearly.

Nope. That was in the original plan but that is not how it ended up. All out of state teams are .500

.500. If you look on KHSAA at each teams breakdown of the RPI it will show you each game and out of state is .500 across the board.
Your right. My mind got ahead of me there. I knew that PT and Belfry couldn't play 3rd round but could in 4th or state finals. Honestly I think PT will be out in round 3 and Belfry will either be at Bell or play who is left out of the Desales/CAL district in round 4 if they can get there.

Interesting. I think I agree. Big things can happen for the Pirates in the RPI if they win this Friday.

If that's the case, why in the world would any team in KY schedule an out of state team? Same with this playing up in class. I would be trying to schedule as many 5a and 6a if I could but the problem with that would be would bigger schools agree to play down in class. There's really no benefit in the RPI for Belfry to continue their series with Pikeville then. Why not schedule a 4a team like Letcher or Harlan County? Seems like 1a teams are gonna have problems finding teams to play them.

Exactly. Schedule a bad “up” team and lay off the out of state teams. Bad thing for Belfry is that the second and third games for next year are against out of state teams, but the good thing is they open with a 5a team.

Imagine being a senior, sort of a role player. You show up with your teammates only to learn on this night the coaches have decided the quicker, faster sophomore will fill your role. It's win or go home. Team loses, you don't play and you have a &$#?ing 6.5 hour bus ride home. Brutal..... something to haunt you a lifetime.

Here is why Boyle and Danville or Belfry and Pikeville will still play.
Money. The gate receipts are as important as seeding for every school.

True. After district games are played, they will still have 5 other games to schedule up in class to help improve RPI. Even though Belfry didn't get any points for playing up and lost the game, Pikeville still provides them with some decent rpi points with then being undefeated and the 2nd highest rpi in the state. I'm not sure Coach Haywood will worry as much about rpi as other coaches will as far as scheduling. He simply wants to play the best teams that helps his team improve and get ready for playoffs.

With talk of charter flights, here's a blast from the past.
Only the old guys will remember this but Kentucky used to have its own airline - Air Kentucky - and it had flights that crossed the state every day. Not sure how far east it went at the start. but they added a stop at London/Corbin later. Started in 1974 and ended up becoming a commuter airline for Allegheny Air and officially closed in the late '80s.

Teams taking a trip that long isn't unprecedented in the semi-finals. My records show Lawrence Co. played Mayfield (home) in the 1991 2A semi-final. Maybe some of the LC or Mayfield posters can tell us a little about that game. Was it actually in Mayfield or was it a neutral site? If it was at Mayfield as my records indicate, LC had roughly a 6.5 hour trip by bus as well.
Mayfield won 21-18 for those interested.
