I still think Caldwell is better than OC. I think Murray was better until they lost their qb. I guess we will see in a few weeks.

Why isn't Breathitt County's Winning Percentage at 1.093? Using the Winning Percentage calculation on the KHSAA's website, their Winning Percentage should be 9.841 (their total Win Value at this point) divided by 9 (the number of games they played). 9.841/9 = 1.093. However, the KHSAA has their Winning Percentage listed at 1.081.

I found this odd and started digging into it. I was curious if the Jenkins game had something to do with it since they forfeited the rest of their season, so I went and looked at some other teams that were supposed to play Jenkins this year. Sure enough, I discovered that both Pikeville and Hazard's Winning Percentages are lower than what they should be using the Winning Percentage calculation.

I found the following information on the KHSAA's website under the RPI FAQ and What-ifs section:

How do schools that drop programs affect the RPI?
- If a school drops a program prior to the start their competitive season, no forfeits will be involved.
- Instead, their opponents now have open dates in the sports where they were scheduled to play the teams who dropped their program, and they are free to try and find another game, if possible.
- If a school drops a program after their competitive season has started, that team shall forfeit their remaining games to their opponents.
- In this instance, the competitive season is defined as the first day a team plays in a contest.

Based on that information, Jenkins would have had to forfeit their remaining games, which means their opponents would have all received a "Win" against them. Therefore, depending on the Class size of the opponent, each opponent would receive a Win Value towards their overall Winning Percentage. For example, Breathitt County should have received a Win Value of .870 for their win against Jenkins (1.323/1.521 = .8698, I rounded up to .870 since the KHSAA only uses three decimal spots). Add that into the rest of Breathitt County's games and divide it by 9 games, their Winning Percentage should be at 1.093.

But again, the KHSAA has their Winning Percentage at 1.081. I calculated Pikeville's Winning Percentage at 1.107 but the KHSAA has it at 1.093. I had Hazard at .736 but the KHSAA has them at .721. I don’t think the KHSAA is applying the full win value to the teams that received a win against Jenkins. I might be missing something, but I wanted to reach out to see if any of you all saw it any differently. Some teams are separated by very small margins in the RPI, so I know every team wants to make sure they receive all the points they are entitled to under the RPI system.

Watch out for Breathitt. Everyone has been down playing them all season. They are gonna make a lot of folks on here eat crow. They have speed at every position and a good o-line as well as d-line. All I’m saying is don’t sleep on them. But everyone has their own opinion. This is just mine.

I agree but it is not their fault their District is the weakest in the state. They are beating bad teams badly. Nothing more they can do. They will be the freshest team left after round 2. Are they the best team? Who knows. But they will be the freshest and that may make a difference.

I hope your right. I'd love nothing more than to see the Bobcats make a deep, deep run. I am one of many that'll eat crow if this happens, and will gladly do so. But I just think that the lack of competition during the regular season is going to absolutely kill them after the 2nd round. I have a really good friend down there and his son is on the team. Their like family. I hope the Bobcats win it all. But I just don't see it.

They only play 3 district games though. The rest of their schedule is awful. And while they might be the freshest team after round 2, they will also be the only one that hasn't faced any competition. When you haven't faced anyone that can simulate the speed and physicality that you'll face when playing the upper level teams it can often be jarring. If they survive long enough to play LCA, Mayfield, Somerset or Beechwood they'll be playing, by far, the fastest, most physical team that they've seen. Those teams mentioned will all have played multiple teams as physical and fast as Breathitt.

Everything you say is correct about the schedule. It is weak and there is no question about that. What I question is how some people seem to be psychic and know how things will turn out based on the weak schedule. The Bobcats have handled every team easily as they should if they are a good team. Some of the games could have been 80 or 90 point games had the Bobcats not taken their foot off the gas. All I can say is yes the schedule is weak and yes the Bobcats are a good team. The Cats will have to beat good teams to win the title. But from someone who has seen the championship teams, this one can compete with anyone in 2a. Are there question marks, yes. But the defense is as good or better than any team I have been where the blue and white in a very long time. Bottom line is we will see. I do not know if they will win nor does anyone know if and when they will lose.

Probably ain’t no big deal being said but they play 4 district games. And the defense is physical enough to compete with anyone in 2A and these boys can take a hit. The question is will any of those 4 teams you mentioned be able to take what the Bobcats hit them with. I think 2A is up for grabs and any of the top 5 in 2A I can see celebrating on Kroger Field.

Hey keep doubt the Bobcats because they get a lot motivation off of it. Don’t stop now !!! Weak schedule or not people is about see how good they are. I really didn’t think they would come together like this but they’re for real. As long they don’t lose focus , they will be team no one wants to play!!! Going be hard game plan for them as well because not showed a lot things they can do.

Good luck pulling out plays that you've not used against anyone except your own JVs for the first time against LCA, Mayfield, Beechwood or Somerset.

Because we have seen this same thing multiple times.

I don’t see in any way imaginable that Bobcats make it to Kroger, unless to watch. So there, have some bulletin board material.

Anyone who thinks anyone but the top 3 will win a Championship is wishing real hard for their home school. After week 2 in play offs LCA or Somerset will be gone.I have seen Breathitt on film. They have some good skilled people but they can't play with the big 3. Have no dog in the fight but one of those 3 will win 2A.Confusednicker:Confusednicker:Confusednicker:

I remember back to Fairview of 2012. Had placed a beast of a team together. However, they had a cream puff of a scheduled. They blew through the east side, putting running clocks on everyone. Got to the finals against a Mayfield team that played a tough schedule and got beat by Warren Central. Even the announcers on the video feed were discussing before the game how much Mayfield, who had speed, was going to have to play more physical to compete. Mayfield 55 Fairview 8. Same type scenario in 2013 with Williamsburg. However the next year Williamsburg beafed up their schedule and almost upset Mayfield.

You keep bringing up the defense but who has really challenged them defensively to where you can actually say they are elite? How many high end talents have they had to shut down offensively? How many offensive lines have they had to go up against that were bigger and stronger than them?

All of the top teams in 2A have had a team come out and punch them in the mouth and force them to bow their necks and compete. Breathitt has not. The experience from that may not seem like it's that important, but it is.

Let them talk , Breathitt will be ready there isn’t a Offensive Line in 2A keeping Long,Hogg, and Spencer from wrecking havoc, and there isn’t a defense containing Collins and co a full 48 , Breathitt can beat anyone in 2A , can they be beat yeah , imo it’s a 5 team race for the Trophy Somerset,LCA,Breathitt,Mayfield,Beechwood

I would love to see Breathitt vs LCA or Somerset. Either of these teams would dominate the line of scrimmage against them no doubt.

After having watched some Hudl material on Breathitt they would have to be much more impressive in person. Good football team no doubt but honestly you’re over zealous. The top few teams in the class are battle tested and just much better than Breathitt currently. They’re not two TDs better than any of the three - including Somerset as you mentioned. Jumpers took a one point road loss to LCA in what turned out to be a great football game between two great teams throwing knockout blow after knockout blow - Breathitt couldn’t compete in that kind of environment. Mayfield is as good as advertised. Breathitt is about where they need to be in the polls - they will undoubtedly make it to the region or semis but that is where the road ends for the bobcats.

I don't know about being two touchdowns better, but the Bobcats can play with anyone in 2A, in my opinion. As I have said before, we may not beat the likes of Mayfield, Somerset, or LCA, but we will make a good showing and we are capable of beating any of these teams. I've been around football long enough to know that "you can't count your chickens before they're hatched", and anything can happen on any given Friday night. Everyone needs to "humble" themselves and enjoy what looks to be a very exciting playoff in 2A.
