Wayne County 18 Corbin 16

Walt Longmire Wrote:That may be. Then it will likely be one-sided. Somerset is banged up. I don't think you'll see many of the Jumpers starters make more than a cameo appearance.

I can’t speak for Haddix he may do the same thing, but from what I’ve seen the last several years the Hounds are gonna come to play, whatever Somerset does is on them but Haddix doesn’t play for moral victories....

And I can't speak for Somerset but I'd much rather them get healthy and beat LCA in round 2 than win a game against a rival from the 80's.
#33
Sounds like a slug fest between two pretty good teams.

#24 and 8 are the stds for corbin. UK should offer them

You asked I’m just giving my opinion...other than rpi and bragging rights it’s not gonna matter much for either team...Personally I want to see Somerset at full strength just like Wayne I love watching these kids play...either way safe travels to Corbin and hopefully it’s an injury free game on both sides...

They can talk to the local health department about that.

2 angels may have got their wings tonight. Congrats Cards.

This was the best competition of the night. Sooo many variables that could be, and were, game changers. I know the weather was a huge factor, but which team did that favor?
#41
Congratulations Wayne County on a hard fought Victory. Sloan is a hand full. The Corbin DEFENSE ain’t no joke either, they held this high powered offense to there season (lows). Make no mistake about it, Corbin was a onside kick recovery away from just running out the clock after the DEFENSE held and did there job. I’ll give credit to Wayne for not giving up, good coaching and play calling and they did what was needed to do to win the game. Sloan no doubt was the factor. You have to defend him and it’s hard to cover the whole field, the entire game. My takeaway from this game is Corbins offense was too many 3 and outs. They were going for the big play instead of the simple eat the clock and save the defense type plays. Corbins offense looked good when they did have a drive. Maybe the weather played into the play calling, and maybe a dry field changes everything. It doesn’t matter where the next game will be played Corbin or Wayne. Corbins DEFENSE ain’t going anywhere. In My Opinion, the offense has to give the defense a break, and make Wayne’s Defense see if they can stay on the field for a whole game and stop Corbins offense. Again Congratulations to Wayne, just as the film showed. Sloan is as good as advertised, there QB with his passing accuracy when needed and running abilities is also a hand full. Can’t wait for the next one.

Hound05 Wrote:Yes they did!!! I kind of thought on that last TD Corbin scored we should have went for two but instead elected to go for the PaT. Came back to bite us. That was one heck of a game foe the fans to watch!

Would it have mattered? Wayne won by 2. Did he miss the extra point?

Corbin has lost 3 playoff game with teams that could have won a state title going for 2 and not kicking the extra point.
#44
The extra point was blocked and looked like it was a bad snap. I was 50 yards away. lol
It was the right call in my opinion. If it’s good your up 8 points.

The only thing I will add to this is that special teams was the deciding factor. Wayne didn’t beat us with the homerun returns but they chipped away at us with two field goals, and a blocked xp. That’s a 7 point swing, then of coarse the onside recover. Both teams was prepared and was a great game to watch. Sloan is the only back I have seen this year be at full speed by the time he gets to LOS, he is a hard runner with speed.

Congrats to Cards. Hope the rematch is more of the same.

Braedon Sloan was the best player on the field and the numbers support that, against a stingy Corbin defense. Sloan rushed 38 times for 207 yards with a TD and caught 2 passes for 45 yards, completed a pass for 7 yards, plus had 4 tackles out of the nickel package. Wayne County used 69-plays to total 404 yards with 19 first downs, while Hounds finished with 33 plays for 250 yards and 9 first downs.
Both teams made some breaks happen and it was an excellent high school football game in some sloppy weather conditions. Corbin has dominated the all-time series 26-5, but the Cardinals have won 4 of the last 6 times they played. Shout-out to the Cardinal defense and special teams as well. Teams very could play again in three weeks and the stakes will be even higher. Would've, should've could've were all there as well for both teams, Wayne County 18 Corbin 16. Good Luck to both teams next week.

Haddix won’t win this game. Hate to say it, if he can’t get his offense to work it’ll be a long night for the defensive hounds

For all those talking about Sloan and longmire and scholarships:

Sloan is a beast! You don’t have to worry about him. He’ll get his.

As far as longmire, If you say the kid don’t deserve a scholarship, then you’re either a moron, or haven’t seen him play to his full potential. You don’t get MULTIPLE D1 offers and not deserve it. Does he need to step his game up? Absolutely! But I’ve seen him going 100% and not many out there can compete with him when he does. He’s also just a sophomore.

With the way budgets are now at colleges, they aren’t just throwing random offers out for the hell of it. To say a kid doesn’t deserve something says a lot about a person that probably don’t even know the kid, or football at that.

We as fans should be grateful! We have another year to watch Sloan do his thing, and 2 more of longmire.

single shot Wrote:I wanna say this, you can’t teach heart and #21 has a ton of it...phenomenal at getting yards after contact...I could watch the kid play all day long, if your a high school football fan he’s everything you’ve ever wanted to see on your team...

He's a good one. Number 18 for Corbin is one of my favorite players.

Please keep posts on topic for the Wayne/Corbin game.

I've had 3 complaints about the negativity of the posts regarding D1 offers.

This was the best game in the region and I would really hate to close the thread early, but I will.

I think round two, if it occurs between these two will be another great game. The hounds will have their work cut out for them if they want to beat Wayne and advance. But the same goes for the cardinals. If a team doesn't bring their "A" game, they'll be watching the other the next week without a doubt. Injuries could also play a big role, Lord willing their will be none, because neither can afford for anybody to be out. Hopefully the weather will be a tad nicer the next go around. Someone asked earlier who it effected more, and I think the answer to that is US. Not making any excuses, because you have to play with what you get. But us, being more reliant on the pass, I think the wet, cold, miserable weather definitely slowed our O down more than it did WC. Corbin will not have an easy first round against knox, who they cant overlook. WC has it a little easier with Lincoln, but def not someone you can just show up against. Should be a dandy to watch if both teams advance.

JMO- the weather played a bigger factor on the best offensive team and think that was Wayne Co. I think it had a big factor on Slone and taking it to the house several times. Corbin defense played big and did a good job on Slone with no hep from there offense.
First round playoffs will be good, but Corbin and Knox beat both opponents on their home field and sure they are not looking forward to playing either at Wayne or Corbin.
The big hurdle for Corbin is having to travel to Wayne Co second round. Tough place to play, just like it’s tough to play at Corbin.
Either way, where is the regional finals played at?

Well statistically, Wayne has the advantage because there are a run team, so my question to you is where was Corbins advantages since Wayne was hurt more by the weather. I guess you watched Ky play Georgia and Missouri and see passing teams depending on the run because of the rain. Wayne had the advantages. As far as regionals, I’d say this district champion will have to travel to Boyle in my opinion with the rip. This ain’t last year. Boyle wins against either team. Good luck to Wayne and Corbin going forward.

Wayne has 1200+ yds passing for the season Corbin has 900+ according to KHSAA.

Today both teams would travel to Johnson Central as the #3 seed.

Anything can happen it’s why they play the games.

I see your point with Sloan, I honestly do. And Wayne might statistically have more passing yards, but the advantage was still to them. The stats don’t really mean much since corbin has played the tougher schedule. Corbin also has to rely on the pass more than WC for their offense to be effective. We do have some solid RBs but a lot of their success comes from our threat of passing being able to keep the D honest. Obviously it’s just really a debate for fans and I respect your opinion but will have to disagree. As far as the region, I’m not sure? Maybe JC? Either way, neither of the teams mentioned above are competing with the forces of Boyle county or Jc this year.

I keep forgetting Franklin is on the other side. So yeah, it looks like Johnson Central. Either way. It’s a big hill to climb for Corbin or Wayne. Time will settle it all.
