WoW! Congrats Caldwell

Now the question becomes, which of these 2 teams beat OC in the playoffs. I suspect Murray will.

So you think murray will beat Caldwell in round 1, mayfield in round 2, then OC in round 3. You must be a BIG murray fan. Or someone that is doesn't know how the playoff system works.

Wouldn’t the winner of Caldwell vs Murray round 2 have to play OC, and the winner of that game face Mayfield, assuming of course Mayfield is still alive?

I know the new playoff format but it seems many are confused someone needs to post a link. I'll try to give a short version. There is no more playing teams from other districts till there is only 1 left from each district. If Mayfield beats Murray next week then Caldwell host Murray in 1st round cause 2 seed host 3 seed. A win next week makes Mayfield the 1 seed, and they will host the 4 seed either Ft Campbell or Ballard Memorial. 2nd round of playoffs will be Mayfield vs the Cadwell Murray winner and Mayfield would host. Mayfield will not see a class 2a team from another district till round 3 if they make it that far. Round 3 the old regional format is gone. 8 teams will be left going into 3rd round all from different districts. Rpi decides who pairs up in 3rd round and beyond. In 3rd round they have the state split in half districts 1-4 for west 5-8 for east. The team from Districts 1-4 with best rpi host the team with worst rpi. 2nd best host 3rd best. Same thing will be done with the 4 teams left from the east. In the 4th round no more east or west. 4 teams left will be seeded by rpi again. Then 2 left play for Championship. Some years the team left from Mayfield district might play OC in 3rd round, but it could also be Danville, Somerset, LCA, Monroe County just to name the few that are the best possibilities. All of those teams are in districts 1-4 so considered west. Round 4 could be any of those same teams or any from the east like Beechwood, or Breathitt County. You really have no clue who you will be paired up against in 3rd round and beyond till rpi is set at end of regular season. Last I looked at rpi it looked like there is a good chance Mayfield would host OC 3rd round and Breathitt 4th round this year but it might change in next couple weeks. Every year will be different.

Sorry about that. I forgot how much KHSAA screwed up the playoffs this year. If we were playing with the format used last year, Caldwell or Murray would beat OC and play Mayfield in the third round. To be honest, I think we would’ve had 3 of our 4 district teams move on to the second round.
