Somerset 41 Williamsburg 13
#1
Final from the Burg. The Briar Jumpers outscored the Jackets 27-0 in the 2nd half.
#2
In the first half it sounded like the Jumpers decided to take an extra half of football off from their bye week last week.

That said, don't draw too much from this score. Williamsburg is a good team and will have some say in the 1A conversation. They just got worn down by the Somerset ground attack in the 2nd half.

Also, unless my math is off, this was win number 700 for the Somerset football program!
#4
Congrats Somerset!

Williamsburg has a nice team. Ponder is a really good quarterback. Somerset's coaching staff had a great game plan and stuck to it even when pushed in the 1st half. They just continued to pound it on the ground with their big offensive line. The running backs ran the ball extremely hard and that running game just wore Williamsburg down. I didn't see any major injuries for either team so this should only help both teams going forward.

Way to go Jumpers!
#7
Congratulations Somerset :Cheerlead

Congrats to Somerset, they have a really good team...Williamsburg turned the ball over a few times and Somerset took advantage, you just can’t do that against a good team...

Somerset has way to many weapons, you just can’t give them second chances. Williamsburg is also better than advertised, both teams played a good game.
#10
Congratulations to Somerset

Williamsburg has a nice team. Somerset is just better. Congratulations to both. Fungame to watch.

Congratulations Somerset!!

This was a really good game right up until the second half. Williamsburg played a good game and has reason to be proud.

So thankful there were no injuries!!

Bunnies are loaded. Weapons all over the field. Williamsburg lost focus for a few series in the second half and Somerset put them away. Penalties extending drives and turnovers opened the door and the Bunnies slammed it shut. Somerset reminds me of a very good Hazard team that came in and whipped Williamsburg in a regional final and went on to win a state championship. Big, strong, fast and skilled. Williamsburg played well in first half but lost their composure in the second.

Ironically that 2011 Hazard team got beat by the Jumpers that year at home. It was a really tight ball game throughout that year with that great Hazard team. I think that comparison is fair and a big time compliment to Somerset.

What do you mean better than advertised? They are advertised as the number 1 team in the 13th Region, even better than Bell County. I think that might be part of the problem. They always end up with a reality check. Somerset is an awesome team, but all people want to talk about is how good Williamsburg played, despite losing by almost 30 points. People don’t have to bash Williamsburg, but they might work harder against good teams with a little constructive criticism. Congratulations Somerset!

anyone who knows football knows williamsburg wouldn’t beat bell .. and for a school that’s on the small end of 1a they took the best team in 2a to the third q .. get out of here

Sorry, I think I’ll stay. If you can’t handle other opinions, you may need to get out.

Humble opinion - Williamsburg is better than Beechwood in many aspects. Very good football team with some talented players. They went punch for punch with the jumpers for a half and really played with a ton of heart.
#19
Closer than expected with it being a 1 point game at halftime...if it's possible to impress with a 28 point home loss Williamsburg did.

Somerset is the 2nd best team in the mountains, well WYMT viewing area, behind Johnson Central and I look for the Bunnies to play for and hopefully win a state championship.

Those who compare Bell and Williamsburg are comparing apples to oranges for no reason.

They aren’t in the same division and don’t play each other. If they’re ranked higher in their class so be it. Bell will go 10-0 this season and still whine about someone else. You want to be big brother, then act like it.

As for Williamsburg, a loss to Somerset is a game they’ll take away more from going forward. No real injuries, lots of game film. Had they connected on a few key passes, they really have a chance to keep the game much closer. The film on this game will serve to be super valuable to both squads.

Somerset eyes will be on Williamsburg next week against LCA. A common opponent we both need a win against.

Somerset has been playing with a bend don't break mentality in defending the pass. If they can shore up that aspect of their game then they'll be fine because their front 7 is tough and offensively they can exploit whatever weakness you have. Special teams needs serious attention though.

you may need to go on another 4 year hiatus if you can’t put together better informed opinions

Agreed. Though they did seem to settle in with their pass coverage in the 2nd half last night. The special teams, except for kickoff return, have been pretty rough. Hopefully they can get that cleaned up in the next couple of weeks. They'll be huge against LCA.

Somerset looks good right now, they may very well be the 2nd best team in Pulaski County.
#25
Bunnies would scalp Warriors

Goes Grundy play defense for Somerset?

Williamsburg has a really good team, but playing Jellico doesn’t help with prep for Somerset.

No critic here calm down. By better than advertised I am saying better than score dictated tonight. You know advertised by what’s being fact, and fact was losing by4 scores doesn’t make them a bad team.
