Pikeville @ Belfry 9/20

Dont think it matters anyway... Pikeville might as well take down their posting for the open date...

How do schools that drop programs affect the RPI?
If a school drops a program prior to the start their competitive season, no forfeits will be involved.
Instead, their opponents now have open dates in the sports where they were scheduled to play the teams who dropped their program, and they are free to try and find another game, if possible.
If a school drops a program after their competitive season has started, that team shall forfeit their remaining games to their opponents.
In this instance, the competitive season is defined as the first day a team plays in a contest.

I don’t see Pikeville holding Belfry to 21 points, nor do I see Pikeville scoring 28. IMO, Pikeville was much more explosive last year than this years version....and Belfry’s Defense is much improved over last year.

Guess we’ll find out Friday ......

Let’s pray for an Injury free game.

I to hope for an injury free game but I do disagree with you on the offense being more explosive. Now in saying that we have only seen it in certain games this year but I do believe it’s there. I agree that Pikeville may not score 28 but by watching the last game Belfry played in Ohio passing is the only thing that hurt Belfry’s Defense. Now the question is can Pikeville do that and that is a Big one. Heck Belfry May put a running clock on Pikeville who knows but we will after Friday night but as always GO PANTHERS!!!

We’ll see......

However....I’m not convinced Pikeville’s offense is as good as last years. I just don’t see it.

I wasn’t trying to convince you I was just stating my opinion. Now I know you can’t convince any old hard headed pirate fan of anything. Been one as long as you maybe even longer but just not for them in this game. Like I said it maybe a bad game score wise for Pikeville but that would not surprise me but I could see it being a close game, too. That’s why they play the games. Hope for a good game but like you said just don’t want anyone getting hurt. As always GO PANTHERS!!!

I see alot of talk about Dixon. IMO, Belfry has more than enough in the "RB Stable" to win football games with Bentley, Coleman, and Hensley. If Pikeville beats us Friday night it won't be because Dixon didnt play it will be because they were just better Friday night. And I'm not throwing off on the kid either, hell he's family, I'm just saying we can't use that for a reason. Dixon is a fantastic football player but, IN MY OPINION, we should be able to win without him. Next man up!

Truth. Belfry has plenty of horses in the stable no doubt. Unfortunately they just all haven’t been able to run at the same time due to illness and injury. When everyone is healthy..... This offense can and will be explosive. Subtract one....it’s still very very good.....just not the same.

Defense has to continue to play swarming, Run stuffing D. O-Line needs to jell and work more as one functioning unit instead of 5 individuals. With the youth and lack of experience we have upfront....that learning was to be expected. In Another two weeks or so, I think we’ll begin to see marked improvement with that group.

No denying this is a big game. The RPI has put a twist on things.

Should be interesting.

Agree my friend. This Friday is going to tell us alot about the Pirates. And I've said all along, when this backfield is healthy, they are one of the tops in the state. All I was saying, we can't use Dixon as an excuse Friday night if he doesn't play and we get beat. We are to deep in the backfield. Not saying you were implying that or that anyone was, just wanted to put it out there before someone started saying that Belfry is already making excuses. If the Pikeville Panthers come across the mountain Friday night and beat Belfry, then they deserve a congratulations not a bunch of "what ifs". And I'm sure you'll agree. We're not Mingo Central, we'll take our lose with some dignity. At least I hope we all do.

The thing with out backfield being together is they need to play together against another quality team like Pikeville because honesly the quality of the schedule over the next month after Friday is not great until you get to the JC game.

I totally agree. But is it worth trying to play Dixon when he's not healthy and risk making matters worse? I get what your saying brother, but it's just not worth it to me. I know Ethan played with a bad sprained ankle but he's a lineman. Even at 60-70% I think he would run a risk of hurting us more than helping. Our backfield will be fine come November whether Dixon plays Friday night or not. But that's just my opinion, which doesn't mean much. Lol

Oh I understand. Belfry Football stands on its own two legs, and always has. Expectations are high and they should be. I expect to see two quality teams decide the outcome on the field. Both teams have their pros and cons. Gonna be interesting.

Well if he is just 60-70 I guarantee he won't go. You would have to be about 90 pct for him to be effective with his explosiveness and cutting ability. I have learned one thing over the years. I don't make the decisions about who plays come Friday night and I am glad I don't. I know the info I got was straight from the medical staff and it was day to day and that usually means he's close to being able to go, but I would still wait till Friday to be sure.

Oh yeah, no doubt. I'd definitely wait until Friday before I made the call. And I'm like you, I'm glad I'm not the one who has to make these decisions. But these coaches and doctors have been doing this a long time, and I have all the faith in the world that they'll make the best decision for the player and the team. Regardless, I've been waiting for this game all year. Can't wait until Friday night to watch this rivalry AND listen to the play by play my friend.

You don’t have high expectations to who you listen to. Bucslover68 and the coach are two of the most biased commentators I have ever heard on a radio station in my life. Just kidding love them both. Why have you been waiting on this game all year it’s just Pikeville and Belfry. Use to just be a county thing but now with the new format it’s got more important meaning. Hope it’s a good one but we will see. Good luck and as always GO PANTHERS!!!

If I eat breakfast with your boy on Friday morning like we normally do, I will tell him that his daddy was picking on me lol. JK Good Luck to number 1 and the Panthers Friday night and I hope for a dandy, injury-free game.

😂 Yeah, bucslover is alright, I guess, Lol. And I look forward to this game every year ol man. But this year, it just seems like there's more at stake for some reason and more evenly matched teams, IMO. Good luck to #1 and the rest of the Mighty Panthers Friday my friend. Should be a classic, at least I hope it is anyway.

Way too quiet in this thread. We need the good ole days of some trash talking.

I said from the start, this Pikeville vs Belfry thread has been eerily quite for some reason. Pikeville threads usually go 5-6 pages with alot of Panther trash talking or at least debating. But this week......nothing? What's happened?
#81
I don't think either team has played up to their potential so far this year. Belfry has been banged up, while Pikeville has struggled to get any "flow" to their offense. I believe both teams will play well this week, with Belfry getting the win at home in a very competitive game. Belfry wins 28-21.

Paintsville gave the blueprint on how to defend Pikeville. Pikeville’s QB does not like to run the ball. If you can stop the run and force him to make decisions against a zone defense he struggles. If you play man to man and let him throw it deep where Pikeville’s athletes can go get it your in trouble, and all Belfry plays is zone defense. If Belfry’s defense can play discipline football, they have the athletes from the linebackers and DB’s to neutralize Pikeville’s WR corps. This will be the best Defense Pikeville has faced this year. If Belfry gets caught napping then Pikeville will make them pay.

For Pikeville it’s a different story. Pikeville has to take advantage of Belfry’s inexperience on the offensive line. Pikeville’s defense is fast to the ball and tackles in bunches. If they can get gap penetration they could cause the Pirates fits. Belfry’s offensive has not looked fluid, and for it to be effective it has to run like a well oiled machine. Belfry cannot have 4 linemen down field on a safety while there all Star backs are fighting for a one yard gain. If they can just hold blocks for a second any back Belfry has can bust big play after big play.

A lot of people are hanging there hat on the fact that Belfry got beat last week by Alter and that Pikeville has beaten Paintsville and Raceland. News flash, Alter would have put a running clock on Paintsville and Raceland. Nothing against Paintsville or Raceland but the levels of competition aren’t comparable. I think Belfry is eager to play some football there only playing there fourth game and are ready to be at pond creek and make a statement. Belfry rolls!
