Nothing to do with coaching here. With Harlan it’s pretty simple. They really do nothing but shoot threes. If they’re making them, they could beat you. If they’re not, it’s probably a blow out.

Still could be considered good coaching IMO. Good win Harlan.

When did Harlan High School become Harlan Independent? Should we also call Corbin "Corbin Independent" Harlan High School has been Harlan High School since before 1920. Just a pet peeve of mine. Carry on.

I figured the score would surprise some (it did me) so I put Harlan Independent to make sure it didn't confused with Harlan County. Forgive me BGR police.

No problem. Since Harlan County opened up I'm hearing more and more people refer to Harlan High School as Harlan Independent or Harlan City.

A lot of times when I hear Harlan it gets repeated by "Independent or County". Because there's not a Corbin and Corbin County.. you don't really hear the same thing with Corbin.

In Harlan County there is no doubt. If you say Harlan you are talking about the Green Dragons. If you are talking about the Black Bears you say Harlan County or HC. I guess you would have to be from Harlan County to know why referring to HC as Harlan makes both sides bristle.

By just saying Harlan Independent or City, clears it all up. No problems and that was a great WIN!!!!

Harlan Independent is the whole city school system

Harlan High School is apart of the Harlan Independent School System

Exactly.

Yes, it was!

Well damn boys I didn’t realize it was such a travesty. Please someone change the header and take independent out of it.

Drive me crazy when I hear it - Harlan was around 100 years before HCHS opened. It's not that hard - Harlan and Harlan County

No sweat, I was part of a thread like 5 years ago with the same discussion. I mean no disrespect but a lot of people in SEKY refer to it as Harlan Independent or City. I’ll just say I’m under 35 and everyone I know from multiple schools does. It’s likely due to the newer Harlan County Central school. There are very few cities and counties with the same name in Kentucky as well.

Harlan has beaten some good teams, will be an interesting district tournament. Congrats Green Dragons.

That is funny everyone in town just calls it "City School", so why are you upset when outside says Harlan City? The news can't get it right half the time. Even UK has a hard time when Blair gets a call on TV. They have said Harlan many times. Not a big deal to explain yourself so there is no confusion with IND. or City.

Yeah, people here do that sometimes.
I've had people ask me, "so the game is at Harlan City?"
I say "No - Harlan" or "No, Harlan County."
I just don't like it - butchering a name that has been fine the way it was for 100 years. I've had the discussion with the superintendent and he agrees - he tries to correct in out of town games.

It's just as easy to say Harlan as it is Harlan City or Harlan Independent. I refuse to use that term in print or in talking, except to answer questions like this.
