What a great run by the blazers.

One of the favorite comments of blazer critics the last few years has been “Uha doesn’t play defense”.

I’d say the four teams Uha played in Richmond this week would disagree with that.

Uha didn’t give up more than 60 points the entire tournament.

Considering the pace that Uha plays at you have to consider that to be a remarkable feat. Teams tried to and succeeded at slowing down the pace against the blazers but their remarkable team defense smothered teams. Especially in the second half of the final 3 games. They gave up an average of 14 points in their last 3 games against Newport, Shelby valley and lca. 14, 11, and 17...

Perhaps the most remarkable part of this run is that Uha did it without perhaps their second best player on kJ crump. He’s been battling an ankle injury. He tried to play in the first game but wasn’t able to go. Uha hopes to
Have him back in a week.

William Bryan and dj quarrels, sophomore classmates of crump’s stepped up to fill his void by providing good ball handling and absolutely insane pressure on defense.

The three seniors, Tandy, hollowell and McGowan all played terrific all around games. All 3 scored and rebounded tremendously. Uha’s biggest issue in their losses was the glass. They controlled the glass in all of their games and kept teams from getting second half points. If they continue to do that they will be incredibly hard to beat because it’s really hard to get a good first shot against their defense.

Uha will now make a push to get back to rupp. With the right draw they could make a deep run in Lexington.

Do we have any LCA fans on the board?

And i failed to give a huge tip of the cap to DJ Quarrells who made only his second start of the season against LCA He drew the responsibility of guarding Will Hacker. hacker had a ZERO points in the game. When is the last time he's been held to zero? Ever?

Just a remarkable defensive performance by UHA. I'd say they have shed the "UHA doesn't play defense" stereotype... The fascinating part is that it's the sophmore class that has really stepped it up and provided the final couple of pieces to make them a great defensive team. And to think, Tandy didn't shoot the ball particularly well. But he's been shooting it better. If he peaks come district tourney time, look out.
