If Scott County wins tonight at Frederick Douglass, head coach Billy Hicks will become the first coach in the history of Kentucky high school basketball with 1,000 wins.
When you digest the numbers this is quite an accomplishment. Most coaches consider a 20 win season as a very successful season. A coach would have to average 20 wins a year for 50 years to get to 1,000. I think Billy is in his 39th year as a high school head coach.

5th among active coaches. I think he is in the top 10 or 12 all time.

Actually he already has over 1000. It's a shame that the state of South Carolina recognized a all time great coach before the state of Kentucky did. Losing wins because of something a football team did is typical khsaa. But congrats to a great man, coach, and family.

Here is another good article from the Courier Journal. I was in Evarts during Hicks' first year. Most JV teams had more talent than that team. But, boy they bought into the system and worked their butts off.
