Elliott Co 59 Rowan Co 51
#1
Final

It was obvious Rowan’s game plan. Hold the ball and try to slow Elliott down. It was effective for a while but Elliott is too much. Spencer needs to pass a little more IMO for Elliott to be at their best. Question his decision making sometimes.

West Carter and Rowan games tells me it is not going to be easy for them to win 16th region....Morgan Co vs Elliott games will be interesting to watch as well
#4
Elliott is the favorite for sure in the 16th, but after that it’s wide open.
#5
How Colin porter doesn’t start on this team is baffling to me as well. I’m a neutral fan don’t know the kid that much but watching games if he’s not in top 5 on the team I need my head checked
#6
Elliott has a really nice team. But i am not sure the gap between them and a few other teams is that big.

Elliott has the best 5 in the region and it's not close. Bench is suspect outside of Porter, and they have arguably the best coach in the region. If they stay healthy they are the overwhelming favorites to win the 16th.

Auguably the best coach in the region or just blessed with unreal talent?

Elliott Highlight vs Rowan

Do you think Adkins could do last season what Thacker did with Rowan’s roster? Especially at Rowan where there’s other sports that he has to share his players with? Coach Adkins is a tremendous coach, and I’m not discounting him as a top coach in the region, but I’m just throwing that question out there.

I don't think he could, Coach Adkins has been very fortunate to have had several players since his first regional title in 2015. This year team should win the region this year. What will he do next year when he will have to replace 3 starters? Here is Elliott record last year Elliott County 1450 Points scored 1592 points allowed 11 - 14 overall record - 9 - 10 in region - 6 - 3 district games.

Not even close. Only team beating them are themselves in this region.

On ball defense in that video was “lacking”, to say the least

Adkins has to deal with an enrollment of about 100 boys, give or take a few. Entire enrollment around 330. Rowan had an enrollment of 928 last year. So, to answer your question, I still think given everything he is faced with he is the best in this region. At Rowan, the timely transfers of DJ Townsend, Michael Antrobus, and Mason Moore makes the job much easier.

You may not want to answer this but where are you from?

Adkins does a really good job at Elliott. I believe there are 3-4 coaches in this region that could have the same success with the talent he has had.

At all levels guard play dominates. Elliott has have the best guards in region in all of his regional titles. I believe that number would be much higher than 3 or 4.

How many big games has he won outside the 16th region? Chalk Danville up as well

You can be the best coach in the region and if you do not have talent, you will not win many games. Adkins has done a fine job there but to think others wouldn't also have done a fine job is not true.

Adkins is a good coach, no questions about it. But there are several coaches that are just as good in this region. No question about it

Can you explain why you think he is such a good coach?

I do not know him personally. I have seen his team play a few times over the past few years and he has talented players and they play really hard. Seem to play a style that works for them.

It works in the 16th region. And we would all probably agree the 16th is one of the weaker regions in the state. I also believe the style that he plays for whatever reason is also the easiest to coach or learn. Really no offense at all, the ball movement is stagnant a lot. Just kind of go 1 on 1 or sometimes more than that. So I guess is he really coaching or just letting kids play? Obliviously its not going to work when the other team has more athlete at all 5 positions, that will not happen in the 16th. There was no adjustments made from Coach Adkins during any of the loses they have. And one would think that after yesterday's game they would've had practice the following day, but they didn't.

Brandon Baker is the best coach in the region by far.

Baker hasn't had a winning season since 2014/15 and it was just 15-13 and lost first round of district

I would have to argue that, that title belongs to Coach Thacker

Can’t go wrong with either one. Baker does more with less talent, so that could put him at the top spot.

If anybody knows anything about Elliott they know they don’t practice on weekends and when they do probably about an hour worth during the weekdays. You’ll find the gym full over the weekend with kids working individually to get better. Sunday ball is like a religion up there.
