A true sweet 16
#1
What if u took the top 4 teams in each region based on computer rankings and then seeded them accordingly 1-64.U can then have 16 sites having a 4 team sectional and the winners could then go to rupp to participate in the sweet 16. Chances of getting the best 16 teams would be much greater. Just some food for thought.

That would be fun.

I will do this, solely based off my opinion of course

Be neat for all regions to participate in a “Sweet 16” style tournament and then pulling the 4 remaining teams in the regional “Sweet 16” for a 64 team state tournament. Would be interesting.

I've said for a while that regions needed to get rid of district tournaments. Give out a district trophy with each district winner being given the top 4 seeds in the regional tourney. Then the next 12 teams seeded based on some kind of computer system. Maybe the average of the liktenhouse and cantral ratings.

have the first round games at the higher seeds site then the rest of them at one central location.

That would be amazing to have every team in the state in a region tourney.

I like it. And, I agree, districts are useless.

So, if you're ranked fifth in your region you don't get a chance to play for your regional championship?
You could end up with five 11th Region teams, three each from the 6th and 7th and two from the 9th and 4th and none from the 13th or 14th. I like seeing the champions from each region compete.

Never going to happen.

Some of the second regions schools have discussed the idea of a seeded regional tourney with all teams in it.

Yes u could. The purpose is to get the best 16 teams or as close to the best 16 as possible. Take a Henry Clay for example. They could very well be the best team in several of the other regions this year but most likely will be sitting home watching come mid March.

I've always wanted all teams in each region to play each other once then seed for a regional tournament with 1-8 teams getting to play at home for first round then the 8 left all play at one spot. Then the 16 teams that win region go to state with the next highest 16 teams ranked getting in with at large bids. This would guarantee the best 16 would be there. Combine computer rankings and a writers poll to decide. Just my 2 cents worth.

The current setup is what makes the Sweet 16 so special.

I 100% agree but would truly love to see the best teams battle it out for the title.

The idea is definitely not to get the best 16 teams. Think about it, if it was, we wouldn't have this system. It's perfect the way it is, messing with it would only complicate things. Ultimately, whoever wins is definitely going to deserve it. Some people would rather watch Estill v Corbin than a bunch of Louisville and Lexington schools. It's about seeing your hometown school or team you like or know a lot about because they're in your region at Rupp.

Having each area of the state represented is part of the magic of the tournament.

I agree but often wonder what it would be like to get the best teams there.
