Owsley had a 6 point lead at halftime but Powell opened the 3rd period with 4 straight steals and layups to take a 2 point lead. Owsley never regained the lead.
Powell County. will now be the top seed in the 56th district tournament, played at Owsley County.The Lady Pirates will play Lee County and Owsley County will play Estill County.

Powell County has a pretty good team and a 12-5 record. They will play at Wolfe County Thursday. That should be a good game. Wolfe County just won the All A region last weekend.

Powell has not beaten anyone in the 14th besides the teams in the 56th district and Buckhorn. They need to beat someone else in the 14th before they will be a contender in the region. They are 12-5, but with a super weak schedule.

And they’re playing in a super weak region.

They’ve defeated Owsley twice and Owsley has defeated Knott twice and had a 2 point loss at Leslie.

Powell has also beaten Bath, Buckhorn, East Jessamine, Estill, Morgan, Lynn Camp, Pineville, Middlesboro, Lexington Christian and Bryan Station.

As weak as the 14th region is they just as much a contender as any of the rest.
They play All A champ Wolfe in Campton tonight. We may know more about them after tonight’s game.

Wonder why??? It couldn’t be weather related because it was 40 degrees at game time and the temperatures are actually suppose to rise a little through the rest of the night and morning hours.

Maybe a flu outbreak and they don’t want to spread it and make it worse. That’s understandable if that’s what the reason was.

Yes I listed them in the Top 5, yes we have a very weak region and yes it is wide open. I simply stated until Powell beats someone else out of the 56th district, we don't really know how good they actually are. A lot of the schools they have beaten out of the region are All A schools and they should beat them.

Powell did cancel classes due to sickness, to many have the flu and strep. No extra curricular activities can go on when you have to cancel classes in the whole district. Hopefully it will be rescheduled when they get back in to session.
