Sounds like Kevin is out. I know there was a lot going on but I donât think he ever had a chance. Regardless of what he did or didnât do, the beaver creek faithful didnât want him they already had their guy

Truth of the matter is he shouldnât of got to finish out his season last year. He singled out a couple kids last year to degrade and belittle in front of others. I guess more of an example, who knows. When someone has coached at so many different schools and they pay him not to coach the second year you should have that in your mind when you decide to hire him for any position.

Sad situation. Hate to see how things transpired.

We will never truly know how bad things were or weren’t.
Where is Coach Holbrook now? Is he still in the area after South Floyd shutting down? Floyd Central May finally get the coach they wanted and the coach every thought they would hire in the first place.

I think Holbrook teaches at South Floyd Elementary School.

Whoever made this hire should have to step down. Accountability. Now you have to go to Coach Holbrook and say will you coach. Either he asks or step down.

They've got their scalp over there.
Best of luck to whoever inherits this mess.

Not sure I would take the coaching job if I were Holbrook... What keeps the folks on Right Beaver from doing the same thing?? Need to bring in a coach that has no ties at all to Left or Right Beaver and let him coach...

How many schools paid him not to coach for a 2nd year? I know he only coached at Trimble County and Perry Central for one season. I thought he left Trimble County for Hazard to be closer to home.

Henry Webb made this hire. He is already gone. Why would anyone want to be a part of this toxic environment? Disgruntled parents got their way and their kids who couldn't crack the starting line up still have not improved. Any coach would be desperate or crazy to step into this situation. The next coach will face the same problems.

He was relieved of duties at Perry Central after he signed his contract so he still got his coaching pay. Being "paid not to coach" is how DarrinC describes that.
Since he's resigning at Floyd Central I don't know that he will keep that money or not, but they may be in a similar situation.

Wow this is bad situation all the way around.

In the middle of the season will they hire new coach or just let assistant finish it out?

Will the student-athletes that quit get to come back on to the team? If that is the case, that would be a valuable lesson for those that quit, and those that stuck it out.

No way they let those kids come back. No way!

Correct.
Honestly, referees probably make as much money during a season and don't have the prep/practice time involved.
This is depending on the school. But most coaching salaries are a few thousand dollars.

Thanks, Zaga! I thought that was the case at Perry Central. I seem to remember that DarrinC said on the thread about the boys quitting that Spurlock had that happen at his last two jobs or something to that effect and was wondering aside from Perry, where else did that happen. I thought before Perry Central, he left his previous jobs for other offers. Going from Clay County to Sheldon Clark seemed a bit strange, but if I remember right it seemed like he was on the hot seat like most coaches were after Bobby Keith. Sheldon Clark gave him a chance to come even closer to home as well. Though that did remind me of when Tubby Smith left Kentucky for Minnesota.

As far as a head coach goes. If Holbrook doesnt want the job, then I look for maybe another younger coach such as former Prestonsburg coach Brandon Gearheart to apply. I would like to see him get a shot at it. I thought Prestonsburg improved over the course of last season and I was looking forward to seeing how he would do in year two.
He graduated from South Floyd and I believe he lives fairly close to the school. While I can understand wanting to bring someone in with no ties to Left or Right Beaver, after all that has happened, I wonder if any outsider would want to come coach at Floyd Central?

I canât give an account for his pay situation at other schools.
I know he left SC to coach at Perry.
He may have been ousted at Clay or Hazard. I canât really remember.

Clay county and perry central no Trimble county he left because they hired a new coach for the second year and he got paid not to coach there as well. The last few schools he has coached at paid him his second year not to coach. I know he went to Allen central the last year it was a school while still under contract at Perry central meaning he got paid not to come back and coach.

Wait, so the coaches son will now be allowed to play after not touching a basketball all season and not even on the team? Big gripes are going to be going down even after theyâve pushed Spurlock out.

If they were going to fire him they should have done this from the get go. As is they suspended him for 3 games saying that was enough.
I agree that they need to bring in someone that has no ties to the area. But even if they do that would they let him coach, or would they tell him HOW to coach. You would really have to love the game to subject yourself to that.

I know it's what you meant to say.
Anyone can look at your post history and see you're not a Spurlock fan.
I just think it's misleading to say they were paying him not to coach. They paid him because they agreed to pay him.

This whole situation falls into the lap of Henry Webb. Webb knew what a jerk this guy was when he hired him.
