That has been going on for years, well before Floyd Central exist and Spurlock.

Im calling it right now, spurlock resigns. He jumps ships bout every 3-4 years anyways. He will be coaching again somewhere else and that school will get a good basketball coach. Spurlock only got this job because him and the uppers in Floyd County go way back in their days at ALC.

Thatâs true but in this case I meant other Floyd County schools. Not just jumping county lines. Thatâs happened a few times already.

Idk why people that isn't around the situation gets on here and blames the parents. I know a couple of these parents. They've never been one to put their wants above their kids. If the kids wanna play I don't see the ones I know forcing them to set out. This was apparently a problem last year from my understanding, A couple of the kids have made some posts detailing some of the happenings and from what ive seen at the games ive seen him coach I could definitely see it.

If it was problem last year and going on for years then transfer your student athlete. Everyone else does in the 15th.

I still donât see why Spurlock is such a hot commodity, with the talent they had at FC last year they should have won the Region, heâs a short timer anywhere he goes and it seems like the majority hates him.

Well in his defense, and by that I'm not condoning anything that may or may not have happened, parents are stupid. This generation of parents are the stupidest group of humans ever put on the planet. Just my opinion.

I agree with you 100% Real Badman. Amen

We sent a future allstater to pikeville because of him being a jerk;not only has he screwed up the present but the future of Floyd Central basketall.Thank you very much Henry Webb for this jerk

Guess what my boss is a jerk too. But if I want to have dinner I better buck up and get my job done.

Thereâs a post on social media right now from one of the players. It gives a good insight on what they were being called and how the coach was acting. Iâm not sure I want to share the link but lots of people are.
Iâm normally a proponent of some old school tough love I really am. This time it might have went too far. It was bad enough to get him a 3 game suspension. That in itself should say something

Kids are too soft nowadays.

I'll go ahead and post part of the tweet I think Blacksmith may be referencing.
It's been mostly civil in here and I think this just adds a little context.
"He has called us fat, overweight, mocked us, and so much more. He once kicked a basketball and it almost hit my brother. I have quit on him 3 times and I came back only because I love the game of basketball and my friends."
I've seen parents on Facebook say he called them "fat" "soft" "retarded" and "slow."

I'm stopping short of condemning or condoning anything said by Coach Spurlock.
But let me just say times have sure changed from when I was in high school.

There was one word I canât imagine an educator or person of good faith will use on that list. Fat is a stretch, you probably shouldnât call anyone fat anymore, but soft and slow....well I donât know but maybe they are soft and slow? Get faster and less soft? If you canât handle that you shouldnât play sports. What lessons are we teaching kids anymore? Why do we have coaches? Let them do it theirselves

Westside Wrote:I used to know Kevin. I played Babe Ruth with him when his dad was our coach, and I went to high school with him and played football with him until he transferred to Allen Central. I have not spoken to him in years, and I obviously don't know what is going on at Floyd Central. I will say this. His dad was very old school for back in the 80's. From what I have observed from Coach Spurlock from very afar, he is very old school. That coaching style doesn't seem to be as successful now days with how kids are brought up. Kevin is a very religious man, and I don't see him being mean to his players. I just think he is a tough coach. I think he was brought up hard and coaches hard himself. He is a good guy with old school ways.
Heâs not much of a person and as far as religion he better do some praying hard. He cusses these boys belittles them calling them retards and slow in the head. He has already had altercations with fans this year at other teams home gyms. So yeah he needs to change his ways big time

I donât have a dog in the fight. I also admittedly donât know what happened at Floyd Central. What I canât believe is that these kids are being vilified for what they did by some of you on here. These boys banded together, stuck to their guns, and made a stand for something they believed in! Whether any of us agree with the what or why of it doesnât matter. These kids showed character by doing what they did. Which is what anyone hopes and prays that their kids learn while playing sports. I hope this situation is resolved quickly by the adults in charge who have less guts than these kids do as it turns out...

If a kid really did quit 3 times, shame on the coach for letting him come back.

The middle school rebels won county championship last year and 0 of those are playing at FC

This aint Middle School any more. Its Big Boy ball now. Just ask the ones that played Clay County last night. Once you leave Middle School you gotta work your way back up the totem pole. Aint to many kids gonna get the red carpet rolled out for them.
Why did the future all stater leave? I think I know which one you are talking about? Did he tell the kid to stop jacking up 3's or stop forcing shots? Dang, shame on Coach. Elishas gonna tell him the same thing.

And you're in turn vilifying folks on here for voicing an opinion.
Like I said, I stop short of saying these kids are right or wrong because I just don't know the particulars. But part of standing up for what you believe in is dealing with the criticism that inevitably comes your way.
The word "retard" should be blacklisted from everyone's vocabulary, but dare I say I've been called WORSE by coaches. Does that make it right? No. Does that make me a bad person for not calling out my coaches? I don't believe it does.
Spurlock has evidently been disciplined by the administration and will have a chance to continue coaching and modify his behavior moving forward.
If the problem is the way he acts/talks and his bosses told him he can't act/talk like that anymore, the problem should be resolved.
The kids who are being called "soft" now have an opportunity to show up and play their role without dealing with the stuff they protested. Will they do it? Will Spurlock calm down? Those two questions will tell me everything we need to know about this.

I've seen this kid play several times probably more times than you have watched floyd central play all together hes a scorer but he's not the type of player to force bad shots. And as far as justice telling him the same thing haha my sources tell me that hes competing for a starting spot

Second or third off the bench is where I see him at this point. Thereâs much more to the game than shooting, you have to be able to get it done at both ends of the court at Pikeville.

All I know is they better be glad they arenât playing for Bobby Keith, kids these days are as soft as ring spun cotton
