Navy @ Army 12/8
#1
The Navy Midshipman take on the Army Black Knights in the City of Brotherly Love. This is the greatest rivalry in all of sports, IMO. Navy leads the all time series 60-51-7. Navy has the longest win streak in the series of 14 games which Army ended in 2016. Army won last year's matchup 14-13. These teams first met in 1890.

Who you got?

Sadly Navy is rebuilding this year, it’s been a tough year, and Army has been ranked at one point. As a retiree of the US navy I’ve been to one of these games and they’re a blast. The Navy used to take buses from Norfolk, Va naval base loaded to this game every year, it was a blast but very uncomfortable on those buses in dress blues. Army wins the second in a row, but look out next year, the streak will start a new. Go Navy!!!!!

My first year of teaching and coaching was in 1999 for Paris Middle School. One of my teaching team members was John McLaughlin. He was a short gentleman in his 70's. He had served in Korea and was a colonel during the Vietnam War in charge of 12,000 soldiers. He reminded me somewhat of Colonel Potter from MASH. He ended up being my best friend during my time at Paris. Although in his 70's, he never sat down. He was always pacing. He came to my room every day, and we had lunch together. Even then, he didn't sit down. He paced the floors even while eating. I'll never forget seeing him on a cold, fall Monday morning. I asked him how his weekend went. He said terrible. I asked him why. He said dammit, Parsons, Navy beat Army. He then burst out laughing. Every since then, I always think of him when I think of this game. Colonel McLaughlin died March 24, 2017. GO ARMY!!!

That’s awesome. Lol. At least he got to see the streak end last year. I love talking to those old military guys that had made a career out of it, tough as nails they are.

Here is a staggering statistic related to the game. I will post a link to the whole article from 2014 below.

"Since 9/11, 95 graduates of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, and 16 from the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan."
