It looks like South Laurel has some work to do.

South should win the 13th rather easily assuming they have no injuries this year.
This is how much disparity there is in high school basketball in thos state

As stated in another thread, South wonât see this kind of quickness in the 13th. Plus Scott Co. shot the 3 ball extremely well tonight. I think South is still the top team in the 13th region.
11-28-2018, 06:35 AM
Does Scott County have any football players that also play basketball?
11-28-2018, 06:50 AM
South will be fine! Scott County in the elite tier.

Scott Co was 13/24 from three and i'm certain they shot it from two just as well if not better. South got within 16 in the 4th qtr but both teams went deep into the bench to finish this one. Scott Co shoots the ball that well, they won't lose.......but as we all know, thats not going to happen. Ballard rolls into Scott Co this friday for a showdown.
Cromer led South with 20, Ramey had 14, Norvell 13 and Hostettler added 11.
Stewart had 25 for Scott Co, Williams with 20 and Moreno 11.

Not a team in the state that doesn't get beat 30 by Scott County tonight the way they shot the ball.

Yes. Starting guard and defensive stopper Glen Covington is still with the football team.

Scott County was 13/24 from 3 for a reason. South, after the first 4 minutes, elected to play zone and pack it in around Marino. Scott Co moves the ball very quickly and very well. If you play them zone you better be big. South is not big.
Scott starting going to their bench in the first half. The bench played the majority of the second half. South went to their bench with about 3 min to go.
Scott County is very quick. Other than Moreno, they are very small.

Sounds like a Duke vs UK beat down.

I know on the other thread someone said they beat UHA by 30. That was a scrimmage and really not a good indicator of how a reg season match would look.
I agree with an earlier comment, SL has a lot of work to do, and anyone suggesting theyâll win the 13th easily is selling Corbin, NL, KC way short.
Just not a good look at all.

Rojas said the zoned, which seems to be the best strategy. I canât see SL being able to handle SCâs quickness in a man defense.
I think SL will improve, and I think they can win the 13th, but wonât be a cakewalk either.
Scott is year in and year out a top team. Be interesting to see what happens next year when Great Crossing opens

Very true about the scrimmages. They are seldom a good indicator.

The problem with helping and doubling down on Moreno is that Moreno is such a good passer and so unselfish, he can make you pay with his passing. Moreno will play a wing in college. However, Scott County is so small, except Moreno, they have to play him in the pain. Last night he only had 10 points but he also had 5 assists. Moreno only played 18 minutes. I would guess Hicks knows exactly what he is going to get with Moreno. He is trying to develop the big kid that is Moreno's backup.
I'm not disputing you but I sure thought Williams was a much better 3 point shooter last year than 7/41. Williams was 3/4 on 3s last night (I know it probably seemed like 5 or 6) and 4/4 from 2-point range.

If you play Scott County zone, you better be big. Scott County moves the ball so quickly that I can't see a smaller team guarding them zone effectively. South is not a very big team. SL played SC man to man for the first 4 minutes. I would have liked to see them stay with the man a little longer.
Scott County should be good for the next 3 or 4 years. I a few years down the road could make a difference. On the other hand, Scott County's population continues to grow so quickly both schools will probably be as big as Scott County is now in 10 years.

If they were getting handled in the zone, where was the adjustments on defense? Like Iâve been saying, I never expected SL to win, maybe keep margin -10 or so. SL was a top 20 team in both the LHL and CJ. A top 20 team doesnât go in and get beat to the point that the starters are on the bench by half.

Or it becomes a situation that goes on in Shelby County. The athletes seen to âemergeâ at Collins while Shelby stays average in about everything. Funny how that works lol

SC was 33/53 (62%) overall and 13/24 (54%) from 3 point range. They were 17/26 (65%) on free throws.
SL was 23/51 (45%) overall and 7/19 (37%) from 3 point range. SL was 12/19 (63%) on free throws.
SC had 29 rebounds to SL's 27. Both teams committed 17 personal fouls. SL had 7 assists and SC had 14 assists. SL had 14 turnovers and SC 9 turnovers. SC had 6 blocked shots. SL had 1 blocked shot.

If I remember correctly (that's a big if), SL switched from a 2-3 zone to a 1-3-1. I don't think they ever went back to the man-to-man.
I really think South is going to be OK. I don't think anybody in the 13th plays like Scott County.

Lol. Then don't look at them at all. Sounds like you was waiting for this to happen so you could pile on. I would venture to say that you are the only one worried about this beat down. I would think the players and coaches have already let it go, because this probably isn't even their toughest game of the week. Their coach could've just as easily went the Knox route and started with a Pineville, and then be told how great they looked. But what good does that do a team?

No shame in that loss. Its the number 1 team in the state on the road. SL still looks like the best in the region.

If you read any of my past posts, you would know I support SL and generally make almost all the home games, and travel some.
Iâm not saying the season is gone, weâre doomed etc. But I wonât buy into the theory or idea that this is a beneficial loss. Had the game been competitive, sure. But when Moreno & company are on the bench before half there is cause for concern.

Don't sound very supportive. Lol. Moreno wasn't really a factor other than passing out of the post. He could've stayed on the bench the whole game, and South still loses by 20 with the way they was shooting. Any team that plays them that night gets embarrassed.

Well, Iâll be there Fri night, then Whitley next week and no doubt Corbin and North next week. Not sure how calling this a bad loss is construed as being unsupportive. But considering the âeveryone gets a trophyâ mindset these days, I guess honesty is a bad thing?

I've never witnessed a good loss as a fan or player. But getting beat down in the first game of the year at the #1 team in the states home place, just doesn't worry me for any team. "Honestly" they got their butts kicked. Anyone would've last night. No doubt. But saying that South may not be top 5 in the 13th is insane. Someone's comparison to the Duke-UK game was pretty accurate. When a team just shoots lights out from every spot on the floor and kids that never shoot that good are lights out, all you can really do is take it. Does it mean you're not a good team? No. Just means you're not ready to weather that kind of storm in the first game of the year. But I bet Fridays game won't look near as fast as it would've if they had opened the season with OBI. Whole point of having a tough schedule.

Fair enough. Looks like Friday nights game with Athens prep is a scrimmage? Still not seeing it on KHSAAâs schedule.
Any word on who else is participating in the Nissan Dribble drive? Iâm just seeing SL, NL, Knott co central and a school from Ohio

Someone posted a schedule I thought. Mercer plays Sheldon Clark, and Corbin plays Cordia. Bunch of prep schools Saturday.
