Weak schedule????
#1
I recall just a few short weeks ago, there were several trashing my beloved Cards for their weak schedule. So, let’s recap it:

Beat handily the reigning 2a state champs from TN
Beat handily the #2 seed in 4a 1st district.
Beat handily the #2 seed in 3a 1st district.
Beat handily the #1 seed in 6a 1st district.
Beat handily the #2 seed in 5a 1st district.
Beat handily one of the 2 remaining teams in 3a.
Beat handily the 1st region runners up in 2a.
Beat handily the #1 seed in 3a 1st district.
Put running clocks on every opponent in 2a playoffs thus far.

All that and still put up 8 running clocks on our opponents thus far.

I forgot, pretty well handled the 4a team that took FS to OT before losing in our scrimmage.

Nothing weak there 55. Impressive if anything!

The Corbin win certainly looks more impressive today than it may have looked yesterday. Anytime you beat a Tilghman team, it's a good win, considering the rivalry involved and this years PT team was very talented. The McCracken game looked better and better as the season wore on as the Stangs played good football late in the year. Caldwell Co was a solid win, despite being the worst game the Cards played all year, with 3 picks, a couple of fumbles and numerous penalties, but, still won going away. Union City was #1 in Tn 2a at the time Mayfield beat them and was a tough team. Too bad there QB went down the following week and they never fully recovered from that. That kid was a player. Beating Murray twice were good wins. The Tigers were better than advertised. Beating afully healthy Hop'town team was a good, not great, win.

This Mayfield team has had a few blips on the defensive side of the ball this year, but, has also played very well at times, but, the offense has been outstanding game in, game out and they've dominated everyone put in front of them. The schedule hasn't been the toughest they've ever played, but, still formidable enough to have them well prepared for the upcoming title game.

Didn't the Tennessee team just finish 7-6? What they did last season is irrelevant. I think Mayfield will be just fine against CAL. Somerset was able to move the ball just fine against the Centurions and were just a couple of plays away from putting up 4 touchdowns.

It may very well have been irrelevant if you don’t know the backspin. After we beat them last year they went on and won state. They lost a lot but they still had their big back. We were thinking they wouldn’t be as good this year and we were wrong. When they come and played us before they lost their qb and several others, they appeared to be much better this year. The qb and rb made that team click. I really felt like they played us better than anyone thus far this year. But, the very next game for UC, they lost the qb in the first quarter.

Mayfield as always played a tough schedule. I will join 55 and pat Mayfield on the back. I don't remember anybody questioning their schedule. I hope they send CAL into 3A with a loss.

I ignore the naysayers. The meat of Mayfield's schedule is the same from year to year, and we all know where Mayfield had ended the season nine of the last ten years

Who said mayfields schedule was weak? I never saw it, but either way they’re clueless or a troll. Now some of those 1st and 2nd place district teams that you mentioned aren’t much even if they were in the top of the district. But it’s a mute point. Because overall MF has played a pretty decent schedule! I think if they played like they did against Corbin, CAL doesn’t stand a chance. Hope they send them packing back to the ville crying. Don’t have much for Louisville schools in general

Did you ref the Cal game last night? I’m pretty sure the white hat might have been you😁

I tell you what, because of a incident, last year, I had a bitter taste in my mouth about Corbin, and it wasn’t the loss. Corbin, without question is one of the most physical, tuff teams we have EVER played, I respect that. After what you posted, I think it only right that I forget what happened, if a CRAZY Corbin fan can pull for us after we beat them, surely I can pull for a team that I respect. I’m going to man up, admit I was wrong and pull for Corbin, there it is!

Well that’s good to hear. Haha. I honestly don’t nor have I ever had anything against MF. Heck I rooted for them last year against Danville. Even met up with some old MF players before our game and talked a little. Always had respect for them and their program. They’ve got some fans that are passionate, they’ve got some that are idiots. But Corbin has just as many of both if not more haha. As far as the game this year. MF just beat us. Did some crazy outside factors happen? Yep. But I’ll say it again. Other than making the score a little closer it wouldn’t have changed much. MF came to play that game and we didn’t. But I don’t know about others but I don’t really have anything against MF other than respect. But I hope whatever happened to ya last year wasn’t to bad and don’t happen again. Either way good luck to you guys. I said on another thread and before, MF will be the best team we play all year. If the Mf that showed up against us comes Friday, CAL doesn’t stand a chance. I believe that 100% I’m talking 34-14 type score. Now if it’s not that same team I don’t know?? But good luck.

In reference to your disdain for Louisville schools. I’ve notice that when some Louisville schools travel away from the metropolitan area they officiating can (not always) become a little suspect. You have two strikes against you if you are from Louisville and a private school. Just strictly an observation, not complaining.

I doubt that’s true. But, even if it were, it certainly doesn’t change it enough to make up for the fact that the Louisville private’s recruit and are facing teams that can only use kids in their own county area.

I’d say you’re right to an extent. But at the same time that bias travels against us or a rural school when they go to the city. Sometimes refs have their own agenda, but I know for a fact it’s not like some-not you- think it is on here. But with that said all the refs from the playoffs are pulled from other regions and generally you get a fair game. Do they miss calls? Yep. They missed a huge punt fumble and a Boyle TD in our game. But for the most part they’re pretty good and fair.

Just determined from another thread that Mayfield is pulling from the whole county. So don’t be the pot calling the kettle black. From Graves record it looks like they could us a few of their players back. I understand it’s perfectly legit for you to do this, but Mayfield recruits the county. You may not call it recruiting, but that is what it is. What percentage of the players live within the actual Mayfield school district? Any percentage outside that number are in some way, manner or form recruits. This is all fine unless your whininig and complaining about private schools doing the same thing you do.

Graves recruits from Mayfield as well. Happens all the time. I'm glad there are 2 great school systems here. I have 3 kids and 2 go to Graves - 1 to Mayfield.

If that's a cupcake schedule, I wouldnt want to digest it!lol

Do they all play football?

Has anybody located this mystery person who trashed the schedule?

Biggest mistake I made as a parent in HS sports was not taking my kid to Mayfield.

They do not recruit. Recruiting is done by coaches or administrators. The only thing that occurrs here is a family member may decide to talk with their kid and suggest they go where they get better coaching and a better chance. But, a big majority of them swap because their dad played there. Besides that, there is only 36,000 total people in Graves County. Therefore no where near the same as a private school in those big cities that can offer privileges to athletes to come there and have over 36,000 kids to choose from in their recruiting areas.

Go back to our game threads towards the beginning of the season.

I don't want to do that. I thought you knew the answer. I'm fine in the knowledge of what the schedule objectively turned out to be.

100% agree, you prolly know as I do some of the exigencies of the trip over this year, but I don't believe a different trip would have mattered. Mayfield is gonna bring home the title this year it doesn't matter what they're schedule looks like, baring a nuclear disaster if they show up and play I'd put money on them winning big!
