Maybe i'm missing something here. But there is no way hazard is a top 10 team in the mountains, unless they made substantial improvement from last year.

Buckhorns best player transfered to Hazard. Don tknow about top 10, but they won't be bad.

Johnson Central doesn’t play good enough defense to be in the top 10, definitely not a #1. IMO they are overhyped!

They took wesley christian to double ot without some of their major contributors due to football going on.

yes, history tells us neither of those teams ever play defense

What was the score in that Wesley Christian game?

I like all the love for Breathitt but I dont think were close to top 5. I think Paintsville is the real deal and will win the 15th this year. I lke this hazard team to be up there all year. def a top 10 team in the mtns.

Sounds like a defensive battle! 😂

I dont see Elliott County listed in any of these list. They’ve got their D-1 guard back and several other good players.
And they’re definitely a mountain school.
#18
Elliot County......is in southeastern Kentucky?

Elliott County is in the mountains, or at least it was the last time I was there. This thread says “Mountain Top 10”.

Not a Mountain Team. No one in 16th region imo can be considered.

Middlesboro is going to surprise a lot of folks this year. I would put them in at #6 behind Pikeville at 5.

Ok. I suppose it’s based on the coverage area of WYMT.

16th region or not, if you've ever traveled rt 32 to Sandy Hook you'd know it's a mountain team.

If you wanna count em... count em!
#25
Geez folks it’s just the area wymt covers.

Lol, I’m just kidding more than anything. But if it is only WYMT to make it more clear the “Mountain Top 10” should have The “WYMT” in it also. I understand now but the first time I saw that it did confuse me because to me all schools in eastern Kentucky are mountain.
To be honest I wouldn’t know exactly where to place Elliott if they were in the “Mountain Top 10. They’d probably be somewhere in the top 3. They’re the pick by most in their region to win the 16th.

The Courier Journal defined mountain basketball as regions 13, 14 and 15 in the old days - it will always be that way for me.

So what would you label Elliott, Morgan, Boyd, Rowan, Greenup, Carter??? I understand what you’re saying but I don’t understand the CJ’s reasoning to label one section of the mountain schools “Mountain basketball” and the other mountain schools in east and northeast Ky something else.

They beat Hazard yesterday according to 64 updates.

Those schools are part of NEKY. To me mountain schools have always and will always be SEKY schools. Although Lawrence co. Stretches that. But they should be in 16th like they were forever anyhow. Can I just say 15th excluding Lawrence co?
