South Laurel hires Chris Souder as new head coach

South girls just hired coach Chris Souder. Heâs the coach who led Mercerâs girls to back to back state champs. Huge get for them.

I had heard from a person who is from that region that Souder was someone they were interested in. Thatâs a great hire. Theyâve got very good talent and heâs a coach that has proven he knows what to do with it. Two straight state titles is all the evidence one needs.

He's resigned and "what he did" is in the hands of law enforcement and prosecutors now.

I understand this is a really touchy situation, but the rules of this site only allow for "responsible discussion of adult criminal behavior."

Part of being responsible is allowing the courts to do their thing. If police charge him or a grand jury indicts him and some information is released, we can permit those discussions on here as long as we leave out the names of anyone underage.

And I'm not just singling you out to be a jerk, 2face. I just want to make sure EVERYONE knows the goal of the staff is to make sure we get our facts straight on here and keep from impeding any ongoing investigation with rumors and innuendo.

What is the connection for Souder to South? Will he become a teacher there also? Mercer is over an hour away, is he moving just for the girls job?

Assuming he's a retired teacher, and won't be a teacher at South. Could be wrong on both of those though.

I wouldn't think there needs to be a connection if he is looking for a job and this one came open. I would gander that he has coached some of these kids before in the summer and when they got a chance to hire a real coach, South pounced on the chance.

All these kids got trainers and I was just talking to the parents the other day. Why dont you ask them what they think now? Deal?

Everyone knows none of these kids gets offers from school ball anyway. You must be living under a rock. Heck even us Perry County people are that smart. So Bulldog you need to get Hazard in the real world.

I will just stay under my rock King Commodore. I dont care what anyone at SL thinks about Walker. I thought he had things going in the right direction there. Thought he was as good of a coach in Eastern Kentucky. He put a lot of time in. More time than any other girls coach I have known. Not sure what all he supposedly done but I guess time will tell.

He promoted them well on social media, did a lot of work in the summer and I'm sure he sent tapes to coaches as well.

High school coaches have a lot to do with how kids get to the next level.

Souder is a winner. Period.

Heâll be great for these girls and the program. Iâd expect them in Rupp this year if they buy in. Heâs like shope from Mercer in baseball. Heâs a winner. Knows what it takes. Too many people on this end of the state havenât been out of here to see what it takes to win in sports - across the board.

Scholarships are earned on the court in front of college coaches. This is not 1980. Girls are no different than boys. Facts. Before you guys start defending this wanna be coach you better check on if this is a hill you want to die on......heck he was run off from over here to begin with. You fellas better be checking things some closer.
