Andrew is back home and has quit the Furman University basketball team. Have heard various reasons from possible (lack of) future playing time, homesick, and not getting along with teammates.

I heard he hated it there and homesick
09-19-2018, 04:27 PM
also heard he may end up at western ky. his girlfriend is there I believe

He will be playing at Union College soon. Nothing wrong with that though. College is college.

I don't think there is anything wrong with playing NAIA Division 2. However, I don't know if I agree with your "college is college" statement. A degree from Furman University caries a lot more weight than a degree from Union College.

I agree here. Playing at any level in college is great, but from the educational standpoint, it will not carry the same weight. I understand being homesick and all that, but passing up playing at that level (They play power 5 schools all the time, that's good exposure) would be hard to do. With all that said, we do not know the exact circumstances and only he and his family know what really went on. So I am sure he had a valid reason for leaving school. Best of luck to the young man in his future.

Hate to hear this, hopefully he will end up at WKU, EKU, or even University of the Cumberlands and Union quality NAIA programs.

I got it from a pretty good source, (actually an outstanding source) that Western was where he wanted to go out of high school, but they never offered. If that is true, why would they take him now? Of course, I could be completely wrong. My guess, and it is only a guess based on absolutely nothing, is that he will end up at Eastern.

Wonder if he got down to SC and a couple of his teammates put the smackdown on him for the comments that got him suspended? You never know what happens when you get to a strange place not knowing anyone

While I see what you're saying, unless you're going into the medical field or something that only a small amount of people get accepted to, most all college degrees are about the same. A giant iou that makes you wish you had went to a trade school. Lol.

Not surprised.
NAIA basketball is garbage for the most part though.
Hopefully he can find a D2 school somewhere

College is the most overrated thing we have in society. Obviously if you are in the medical field it is important. But kids in my opinion need to be learning a life skill to benefit them in life other than get some useless degree. If you just love to play basketball and you aren't good enough to go pro have fun with it and go where you can play. I also don't think furman is in no way more prestigious than Union as far as degree goes.

Oh I fully believe the top teams in NAIA are better than all of D3 and half of D2. But after those top 6 or 8 teams, the talent level in NAIA is atrocious.

"Garbage" just isn't the right word their, Gut.
I understand Alice Lloyd isn't going to beat UK, but those guys were some of the best players on their teams in high school. They aren't the best in the country, but put a team together of the best BGR has to offer and ALC will beat them 100/100 times.

Contact coach Kelly wells at university of pikeville

Not the mid south conference my friend. Kid should go to university of pikeville and play for a great coach in Kelly wells.

You realize D3 have no athletic scholarships and can in no way draw better players than a school that can offer full athletic scholarships right? D2 can offer full scholarships, but are bound by all the ridiculous NCAA rules that NAIA isn't. So, advantage NAIA. You should just get out more and not just watch Union and Alice Lloyd

I'd have to guess that this kid will end up at EKU. I've been told he has some connections there. #GOBIGRED

He is going to be a walk on at WKU.
Side note, I believe that Jake Ohmer has been moved to a walk on this year as well.
Now walk on can mean just not getting a scholarship from basketball but is elsewhere. Ty Rogers was a walk on for WKU his last 2-3 years because he had an academic scholarship full ride.

If it was my kid and I was advising him, I'd tell him to find a juco or something as far away from Kentucky as possible. Let the stigma die down for two years and go wherever you want. But I hope he doesn't believe that it won't be a issue at WKU too.

I really hate to get off topic but this is a thing of mine I must comment on. Trade school is extremely, hugely underrated in todayâs society for some odd reason. The money a good welder, machinist, electrician or other certified tradesman can make is huge..

^I could not agree more!!!
Neurologists, Dentists, damn Lawyers, etc. they ALL need a good HONEST mechanic for their cars!!!

Our country as a whole is facing a huge shortage in skilled workers such as carpenters.
I wish Andrew Taylor the best.

That's why D3 offers academic scholarships.
Also D2 > NAIA all day everday.
I stand by my comments. Other than 5 or 6 NAIA schools the majority are garbage every year. 5"11 high school superstars that learned there are better players in the world than the ones you put up 30 on from the next county over.

I know college is not for everyone. However, my degree (agriculture) has served me very well. My wife's degrees (nursing and public health) have served her well. My daughter's degree (education) continues to serve her well. And, my son's degrees (physics and mechanical engineering) is serving him very, very well. I wouldn't call any of our educations over-rated.

Well well well. I guess he wasnât getting every call at furman in practice. D1 is for the big dogs. Maybe he can go somewhere that donât know his history. Good luck.
