Belfry @ Pikeville 9/14
#55PirateFan Wrote:Wow! That's an impressive win, no matter what level. I ask because I haven't got to keep up with any middle school this year, Belfry included. Been working out of town alot and barely get back in time to watch my son play on Friday nights. I heard Pikeville looked good in Middle School this year though.

They are very good and getting better. Belfry is very good also.
bucslover68 Wrote:I try not to live in hyperbole world, but this kid is a really good one. We saw flashes of it last year and he has only scratched the surface so far. I am not gonna make any predictions on how he will do tomorrow night or in the future, but it will be fun to watch.
I need to recruit him.
pjdoug Wrote:Name a few schools that KHSAA punished for recruiting.

No I'm not. I'm done talking about this garbage! You guys go ahead and have at it. I'm done with it. I'll talk football if you want but that's it.
jetpilot Wrote:No apology necessary! What we all agree on is hopefully a great game that both teams benefit from and no injuries. Pride on the line but big picture is Kroger Field! Now that I know the rules no more mention of that other stuff.
You people are being too nice. I find that disturbing.
Let me attempt to put this in proper perspective. Hopefully it will put this argument to rest. Not just on here, but everywhere else. When a kid puts on the Maroon, he’s a Pikeville Panther. When a kid puts on Angry Red, he’s a Belfry Pirate. They can come from Betsy Layne, West Virginia or Timbuktu...It doesn’t matter as long as the KHSAA approves. What the haters ALWAYS fail to acknowledge (That’s no accident on their part) are the REAL reasons why kids want to come to Pikeville or Belfry.....
1. Tradition- both speak for themselves
2. Coaching-Coach Mac is ascending into legendary status....and Coach Haywood has been in legendary status for over 2 decades.
When you have those 2 things, recruiting, by definition, isn’t necessary....These programs recruit themselves...

In a nutshell that pretty well sums it up
I obviously hope Belfry wins, but Pikeville will be tough at home. I still think Belfry has alot to prove...its only game 3. Tonight's game will show where Belfry really is and what they need to work on.

I don't know who will win but I do know the talent gap between the 2 schools has definitely tightened and that is a trend that I think will continue.

Hopefully it's a injury free game and both teams are better and more prepared to bring home 2 state titles in a few months.
This game gives us a better idea if these teams are as good as advertised. I believe Pikeville is. Not sure about Belfry yet. Good means are they big trophy good.

it is football and you cant name one because it doesn't happen.

This statement is a true statement even if it was reversed. Belfry is a tuff game and Pikeville can learn where their at and obviously I am for Pikeville. But it is the 4th game BelfryPride. I was at Belfry’s Middle School football Rama win they had all those games there that day and the Belfry players and Pikeville players where shaking hands and talking because with all this social media stuff they know each other and acted like friends ( something us old coots can learn from). Hope for a good game and after it move on to the next challenge and get better each week. As always GO PANTHERS!!!

it's gonna be fun watching to see if Pikeville can compete with Belfry in the trenches and slow their running game down, And to see if Belfry can stop the Pikeville passing game.

Well said my friend. Good luck tonight, we should be in for a classic.

Trying to git yer feathers ruffled to git ye ready for the game Confusednicker:

Actually they do, all of them.
#55PirateFan Wrote:Well said my friend. Agree 100%. How's Pikeville Middle looking this year?

I know Jet has done answered this question for you but I going to threw my 2cents in anyway. They have improved a lot from the first game until now. A lot of it has been personal changes and some younger kids improving. Still have some work to do. Especially on blocking assignments and staying on them. Much better but still have work to do.

You going to Log Mountain tonight to watch the Game? Your welcome to Pikeville to watch if your in the area because no one knows where you are lurking.

I'm not sure if I'll go to Pineville or not. I wish I could go to Pike County. Maybe sometime I'll make it up there for a game Smile. I think it is gonna be a good one up there tonight.

You should come down. I believe you'll get your money's worth in this one.

it should be a chess match.

I agree... I would also add that Pikeville has to establish a running game besides the QB. Tonight's game doesn't really matter besides pride but if Pikeville plans on bringing home their 5th championship they've got to do so.

That's for sure. They can't allow a good defense to key on the quarterback. This Pikeville team is loaded with athletes though. so I'm sure they'll start opening the offense up.
The world of East Ky football is a much better place when these two teams are on top of their games. Belfry has been there for the better part of the last 2 decades and Pikeville has been a bit of a roller coaster. As you can see by nearly 7000 views that this game has meaning to lots of people even if its just bragging rights. People say its Pikeville's Super Bowl but I can guarantee its just as important to the players and die hard Pond Creekers too. After that 2014 game I had one of the Belfry players tell me that he didn't care if they won the state championship because his senior year was ruined because they lost to Pikeville. I disagreed with him but he wouldn't hear of it. Trust me Belfry hates to lose to Pikeville just as much as Pikeville hates to lose to Belfry. I've enjoyed the intelligent back and forth chatter from both groups. Some good points have been made . Pirate 55 , you're legit brother. Love the respect you show to other teams and fans and the non-biased analysis you give. Also your boys a heckuva player. Good luck to him and his mates tonight in what should be a very good game. My thoughts are this, if the Panthers have grown and matured enough to walk on the field tonight, I think it will be an absolute dog fight. If they get behind early will they fight or will they lay down? The Pirates will do what they do, a well oiled offensive machine. As long as they don't lay the rock on the ground I look for them to move the football and have success. Can the panthers D match their physicality? I can't answer that question, that's why they play the game. On the other side of the ball, what will the Panthers offensive mid set be? In 2014 they used a very balanced attack with the hard running of Pugh and a short simple passing attack that the Pirate secondary seems to allow at times. Thus far the Panther running attack seems to simply be there QB, will he run it as much tonight or will they try to get their RB involved more? Are they going to simply live and die on the passing game with what appears to be a very dynamic set of receivers? All these questions come to light in less than 10 hours. I think both sides are super excited for this game, as they should be. Will it be all that everyone hopes? We shall see....Like I said East Ky football is a much better place when this game has serious unanswered question that only get answered when the pads start popping....good luck to both teams and seniors know this, This is the LAST TIME you get to line up against your cross county rival in your career, make the most of every play!!!! Prayers for an injury free game.

Thank you my friend. I really appreciate the kind words. I try my best to be respectful to everyone, although I to sometimes get a little aggravated at some posts made but that's just because I love my Pirates and KY high school football in general. Sometimes we forget that we're talking about teenagers here and get a little carried away. But I understand theres alot of passionate fans on here that loves their team as much as I do and it happens. Finally, I really appreciate what you said about my son Ethan. He lives Belfry football and loves the game. It means the world to he and I both to hear people we may not even know say things like that. Let's him know that the blood, sweat, and tears that he's sacrificed is being noticed and is paying off. Thank you my friend! Hope you can make it to the game tonight, should be a classic! This Pikeville team is the real deal and I know are ready to dethrone the Pirates and take the title as kings of the mountains. And they absolutely are good enough to do it.

Wanted to answer on this reply. Sorry to get the thread off track, I asked I think it was Angry Mob to answer a question about the roster because he brought up”Big Sandy All Stars vs WV All Stars. I may be wrong on who brought it up. So my apologies.

As I said before, I could care less where here from as long as rules are followed. By the looks of some answers above, they absolutely are, and I don’t doubt that. Good luck to both teams tonight, obviously I will be rooting for my Panthers, but I pray for an injury free game both ways, and Go Panthers!!!!

Good luck to you, 55 Pirate Fan.
