Pirates looked a little better last night.....espically on offense. The O-Line did a really nice job throughout. Issues remain defensively.

The game to game improvement should continue against NCC.

Belfry wins this game and the young pirates get some playing time in the 2nd half
#5
I think the Pirates continue to get better and will roll by 21.

Belfry by a lot would love to go and watch belfry haven't seen them since the days they played ironton those times
#10
I would love to see this game, if it was the new port of the old days. Around 05-10. That would be a great game. But it’s not, belfry will smash them so hard they’ll head back to “Northern KY” before they know what hit them

Hope your right my friend. I got a feeling this could be a trap game if we dont focus on the game at hand instead of worrying about the game the following week.

If the Pirates focus on the game at hand, we roll. If not, this one could get interesting. But I think we focus and get the job done.

I feel like Belfrys defense may be better than last years

Not at this juncture. Need a lot of work in the secondary. Additionally, big powerful O-lines give our smallish defensive lineman fits. I will say this....Our defense does appear to be just as quick...and maybe even a little quicker than last years version. However, injuries are beginning to take a toll on what is already a thin defense depth wise.

I was just impressed with how they slowed down the West Va team. I had read to expect them to put up a lot of points. Really impressive to hold them to such a low point total

I’ve only watched belfry play one game, against Huntington. But, from what I saw:

Belfrys Dline might be a little smaller than traditionally, maybe. But they seemed quick off the ball. They almost remind me of our Dline last year. With the right coaching- which I’d go ahead and assume they have- they can turn that smaller size, like we did, to an advantage with their speed.

The linebackers impressed me the most. Their ability to read the ball on a run while mainting discipline is admirable. But what impressed me the MOST, was their ability to shed blockers, some who were wayyyyy bigger and probably stronger than them. So you know they have excellent technique. And that’s especially something you want. You can have the biggest Oline out there but if the other team is shedding blocks and getting to the ball, all you’re doing is coming up field at that point and giving a backside defender an opportunity to break through the gap they left behind.

To me- remember I’ve only watched one game- their weakness is DB’s. It’s not their talent but the way they played the pass. Could be lack of experience or coaching in that department, I don’t know. That’s not a shot, I’m just guessing as to why.....

But with all of that said, belfry has a solid team and a good defensive unit, with the offense coming around with the starting QB back into the mix, belfry- as usual- will be a tough out for someone late in the year. It might take them another 5 games to figure it all out. But I BET they will! It’s destiny for a boyle BC matchup on Pond Creek. I don’t care whose playing that WILL be the best environment in the state that week. Hopefully we will see the winner at corbin. Good luck all!

It’s game day for the Pirates. This thread use to be one of the best threads on rivals but somehow it has slowed down but go out and do your job and everything will be great. I won’t be there but will be keeping up with this team. Play hard tonight get better each game and good things will happen. Hope you guys win but most important stay healthy and good luck.

Honestly, some of the "slowing down" was more of questionable play calling by the Huntington staff. They were committed to trying to pass and run the 6 and 7 hole. The passing is one thing...but this Belfry defense is very quick to the edges and attempting to run in those areas are futile at this point.

When they committed to running between the tackles midway thru the 4th quarter....there wasn't a lot Belfry could do. Huntington had a great drive, that ate up clock which led to the FG that pushed the lead back to 8.

Don't get me wrong, Belfry's defense played well enough to stay in the game...and if Browning could have played at QB....we may have put up a few more scores....but, without a doubt, IMO, Huntington was the better team that night.

I agree with you if the quarterback had been playing would have made a difference. We all know that Belfry’s game against good teams is time of possession and if maybe he had played they might have got more first downs which keeps the defense off the field to get that rest the need especially in these first games when it’s rather warm now later one when it cools down it really is not as much of a big deal. 1st game long season they will be better and a hard out for anyone
