Carmel, IN 24 Trinity (Louisville) 21
#1
Final
#2
A backwards pass returned for TD and a critical roughing the passer call with less than a minute to play cost the Rocks. Need to regroup and play much better versus Warren Central (IN) on ESPNU 8/24. Remain favorites to win #26

With X and T both losing maybe this is a prelude to somebody else winning 6A

Possible, but it's no guarantee.

Trinity played a very powerful team. If they learn from this loss and fix their mistakes then it only means more trouble for KY teams in the playoffs.

St. X? I have no idea what happened there. I'm told from people at the game that the tiger defense played well, but that the offense couldn't get thing going at all. Their starting QB is out with an injury and Coach Wallace has likely been teaching some very different offensive schemes than Wolford, but still...

Winning is hard. Being perfect against Trinity schedule is damn near impossible.

I have no doubt that T's tough schedule will only strengthen them.. Iron sharpens Iron.

When was the last time X & T both lost in their opening game?

So the last time was 2015 season...… how far back after that?

The reason I asked, Sheldon Clark put a running clock on Betsy Layne last night in the 1st half. Sheldon Clark also put a running clock on the team they palyed in their last game last season, but before that, it had been ages since SC had put up a running clock on anybody.

I'm just curious because we rarely see the two 6A goliaths fall on the same night, especially in the first week of the season.

Trinity and St. X both won their opening games in 2015 (against Ensworth [TN] and Henry Clay). They did lose in the same week, but that was week three.

My source (KHSAA scoreboard) only goes back to the 1998 season, but within that time both teams losing the opening game has never happened. Although, not for the reason people may suspect. Trinity has frequently lost their opening game, usually to an out-of-state power from IN or TN. St. X has only lost their opening game in 1999 (Covcath) and 2018 since the 1998 season.

So as to the last time it happened? ¯\_(ツWink_/¯
You'd have to find someone with better sources than me.

I will try to research this question and find an answer for you.

Often times, they do not open the same weekend. I will try to be thorough.

I only have to go back to 1955! Take out all undefeated seasons- for X 1956 and 1957 (tied one game each season-mythical state champs with Highlands also claiming state title one of these years), 1969....it should not be too difficult with the Archives at Courier Journal.
