No Johnson Central?

Casey, Powell, and Wayne aren't considered mountain schools are they? What about Somerset?

Belfry and Johnson Central at the top followed by everybody else. Business as usual.

You wouldn't put Corbin in the mix after they made it to the state title game last year?

Must have something against the entire county. JC is a lock and Paintsville should get some consideration.

They would be after Belfry and Johnson Central in my opinion at #3, especially with the loss of Sizemore at QB, he was the straw that stirred the drink for them. Just hard to put them ahead of guys that have been there for over a decade now. Of course this is just preseason talk and there is not a whole lot to go on at this point.

Corbin will get their fair share and I for one and hoping for a Belfry/Corbin playoff meeting again at some point.

Pikeville beat Hazard at Hazard in the regional championship last year. Hazard lost a bunch of senior starters and Pikeville has nearly everyone back. Hazard always reloads and will be good again but can't be ranked above Pikeville in the preseason. Which means nothing lol.

Hazard lost some key contributors but they return quite a bit of starters both ways. But I agree I don’t see Hazard being ranked ahead but I do think they would be the spot below them.

To be honest, I think paintsville, hazard, and pikeville are a toss up every season. No one will really know who is the best until after the playoffs. Even then, the best team doesn’t always win. The year pikeville won it all, paintsville was clearly the best team in 1a imho. Kash Daniel’s injury was enough to turn the tide, and the rest is history.

1A in the east has been tricky the past few years. The preseason number one always seems to slip up and another team knocks them off. We haven’t really seen the top preseason class A team go the distance since Williamsburgs run in 2013 and 14z

You cannot forget Raceland I’m that 1A perspective. But we are talking about mountain teams though so I can see why they where left off.
The year Pikeville won it all, Paintsville and them where about as dead even as they come.( if healthy). But who knows how it would of played out.

You’re right, I went back and checked scores, Paintsville won by one point in OT during the regular season. The injury to Daniel made a huge difference though. I also wasn’t trying to discredit pikeville. They still had to beat beechwood to pull it off.

Paintsville beat both. Which also means nothing lol

Paintsville also best Raceland who made it to the finals. All of that is meaningless though without the title. With a couple of exceptions the West has historically owned the East. Beechwood leaving could somewhat level the playing field but there is still Newcath coming down in their spot.

I agree it did make a big difference. Pikeville also made a switch at QB after that game as well I believe. To evenly matched teams.

So last year Belfry was ranked preseason #1 because of the year it had before even though we knew how much talent they lost. However this year we're going off of lost talent to downgrade Corbin in the polls even though they return around 25 Seniors?

The Darthvader rankings are unofficial and weren't published last year. Lol. The Hounds will be fine, just hard to go against the big red machine or Coach Matney.

Don’t get your panties in a up roar Chs crazy, I pick Corbin ahead of the Pirates and I am a Belfry guy. I did because they made it to the championship game. But I wil be for Pirates if play this year, good luck to you and your hounds

I think 1 2 and 3 are Belfry, Johnson Central and Corbin in any order.

Belfry defeated Johnson Central last year, but took an early loss to Central in the playoffs.

Corbin did beat Central, but never played Belfry and I could see how someone would want to give Belfry the benefit of the doubt.

Johnson Central handled business in the postseason after losing to Belfry.

It's hard to choose.

My panties are in no more of an uproar than a lot of your fan base this time last year having the same discussion, but as it’s said that was last year. Good luck to the Pirates this year hope you all have a great injury free season be pulling for you in every game but one!!
