Ashland 2018

Thoughts and predictions?
#2
Who will be there to fill the shoes? Ratliff returns. But gone are their top 3 recievers and their top 2 rbs.

I thought the top RB was only a sophomore last year? Hester?
#4
You are correct. My mistake. Coulburn was their leading rusher, just shy of 1000 yards. He was also their leading reciever. Ratliff was the 3rd leading rusher and Hester was 2nd. Both having around 700 yards. Hester was the chance of pace off tackle back. Not a bad 1-2 punch with him and Ratliff. But who will be the guy on the outside ro be a threat downfield and soften the box? Alot of Colburns yards were off screens if im not mistaken. What does Ashland return upfront?
#5
The qb by himself keeps them in games.
#6
I would venture to say that the RPO and Vear will be utilized a great deal, especially early on.
#7
I heard yesterday that the offensive coordinator/qb coach, Coach Dowdy, resigned. Anyone heard about this?
#8
Hes been there for it seems like forever. First ive heard of it.

Correct. I'm just trying to see what happened.

Ashland just needs to do what they did last season ... keep it simple. A balanced effiecient attack with a defense that doesn’t give up big plays and makes your earn it. This recipe is how they beat Central and won the district.
#11
That recipe and JC putting the ball on the ground 5-6 times.

Keontae Pittman will be the best running back we will see for the next three years...I am surprised that no one has mentioned anything about him!
#13
Has anyone heard any more about the offensive coordinator position being open or not?

He has some great speed but how is his durability? He isn't really big and small guys who are fast typically don't like to get hit. How are his hands? Based off of his size size I could see him being more successful as a slot receiver than a running back. This is no way a knock on the kid but I was genuinely wanting to know if he can physically withstand a running back's workload.

I heard that Colt Phelps is now going to fill that position. He has been an assistant coach for a few years and has helped with freshman and JV.

I agree with your assessment and thoughts. I think he will be fine with Ratliff and Hester also in that backfield. The load won't be too much. I'm sure the weight room has been hit hard over the winter and he sure has been burning up the track this spring. I look forward to the upcoming season and wish all our area reams rhe best!

Can you guys post a schedule for Ashland? Thanks!

Go to the sticky thread: 2018 team schedules. Ashland schedule is there!

So, how does the Ashland faithful feel about moving to 3A next season?

What years are they cross districted with belfry?
#21
Why are they trying to get out of playing a home and home with Raceland?
#22
I think moving to the 3A district is a win for Ashland and Russell. Ashland loses two weaker district opponents and gains a big district opponent with Russell. Ashland needs to pick up a quality 3A or 4A game or keep Johnson Central on the schedule. A weak schedule won't make you better...it just shows your weakness when you play quality teams!
#23
Hearing that the baseball coach at Assland got offered the Pikeville baseball job. Sounds like the Putty tats are going to lose a couple of QB’s and their entire infield in baseball.

Don’t think that’s going to happening Ram-A-Devil.

Heard the same thing.

Doesn't matter! Always someone else to step up!

Ashland at this point is miles ahead of Russell no matter what graduation takes from them each year. Russell couldn’t beat Johnson central if they fumbled 10 times inside the 10. Ashland will be the favorite in that district every year. Ashland should add wheelersburg and keep Johnson central.

AD is retiring and Dowdy will be the new AD is why he is giving up the OC job. Ashland with Ratliff Hester Caine’s and Pittman should be very explosive on Offense. The D is where I’m worried losing Daniels the hard hitting LB will be hard to replace. Ashland opens on the 18th at home against Harlen County.
#29
Pittman as just a freshman was the fastest kid in this area in the 100 and only a couple of 10ths behind Bakers school record so he is a homerun threat anytime he has the ball.

I bet not a single one of the fumbles were forced
