#1
Per KHSAA Website
#2
Anyone know what happened here?
#3
Family is moving to western part of the state.
#4
^ This might explain why he's been participating in Bowling Green's holiday tournament over the past few years.
#5
any chance Coach Scarberry at Model jumps ship and takes Southern job? Southern is a bigger school, more $$$

Not a chance.

I don't think many schools in the 11th would want to go with Model if we are talking about parents really opening checkbooks. Other than the privates, maybe they would off sheer size, but I'd guess their rainy day fund isn't lacking.

I’m not sure I understand that post. Are you saying you think there is a hidden athletic phone that model will use to attract other coaches or retain Scarberry? My knowledge of model is they won’t spend a dollar on athletics .

I was trying to say that I thought that if they really, really wanted to keep Scarberry, they'd probably be able to come up with the money to match Madison Southern's offer if it came down to a bidding war.

Model doesn't spend the type of money Southern does.

Charles Thomas. Assistant at Sayre. 13th region legion
#13
Wow. Thats crazy he left. I mean its one of the worse (if not the worse) districts in the state. Central and Southern are basically guranteed a trip to the region every year, but they both more times than not get beat out in the region by a LEX school or Scott. It is funny to see Central brag about all the district titles thou... You beat a 1A Berea and Model, and then a Southern. SMH

His wife is from Scottsville which neighbors Bowling Green. He is reportedly moving to Bowling Green High to be an assistant. I am sure he wants to see his son who will be a freshman play in the state tournament and odds are that isn't going to happen at Madison Southern. He will have a pretty good shot at Bowling Green once over the next four years.

I'd say with him moving to Bowling Green, he's got a good shot at getting a state championship ring
#16
Looks like Madison Southern knocked it out of the park with this one.

Who did southern hire?

Took the post a few above mine to mean that they'd hired Charles Thomas. After re-reading it, I'm guessing that it's just saying that it'd be a good hire. Sorry about that one-- it was early and I hadn't had my coffee.

It was a win win for Madison Southern with him leaving because in the 16yrs he was there nothing really changed . So he had to look for a asst job in order to have his son play on a so called winning team. His favorite line now is he will be playing in RUPP ,so whats that say about his coaching abilitys.{SMH} From what's being said if the next coach has any coaching ability which he will they will finally be able to enjoy great seasons and just maybe win a region game .

none

Austin Newton REALLY wants this job. At this time he does not have a teaching certificate, but that can be squared away if he starts an education M.A. program.
#22
Austin Newton would be a great hire. great guy, with D1 College Coaching and playing experience.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Coach Jon Bentley's name on the list. He just won a region at Estill County, he loves the Richmond area and is a great coach. Would be a great hire for Madison Southern.

That maybe true but at Estill he doesn't have to deal with the Lexington Schools nor Scott County each year to make it to Rupp. At Southern, he would.

That would be an AWFUL move for Coach Bentley.

Why would it be an awful move, a lot better talent pool every year. He would get out of the worst District in the state, and its not like they win the 14th region all the time, it would be the same thing that he is doing now. He has to compete with Knott, Perry, Hazard, Powell here, why not go and compete with some of the better schools in the state with some better players every year and his coaching ability he should just keep moving up to bigger and better things. I could see him being at the college level one day and I don't think he can get their from Estill county.

If you are comparing Knott, Perry, Hazard, Powell to the 11th Region that's insane. I'm not saying those teams are awful, but the road to Rupp is much easier at Estill than any time in the 11th. I know Coach Bentley is very good coach, but if he leaves for an 11th Region team, it should be for another school and not Madison Southern. I am a Madison Southern guy, but I also know what else is there. Madison Southern is a good job that pays better than most in the state, its an uphill climb to ever be an 11th Region contender.

Everyone knows the underlying reason for the move with his son going to be a freshman next year. I don't blame him, I would do what is best for my son as well.

Nobody is mad at Coach Buttry, he did a good job at Madison Southern. His son is going to be an ABOVE AVERAGE player, who if he stayed at Madison Southern would have never gotten a chance to play for a Region Title. The funny thing is that Southern has a very good Sophomore class that has only lost a couple of games since they were in middle school, but still aren't good enough to win the 11th Region. I totally understand, but the only REAL expectation at Madison Southern is beat Berea, beat Model, and beat Madison Central once every 10 years. That comment is not a joke either, I have heard MANY administrators at MSHS say that.
