Patriot train Wrote:Same thing I believe happened last year in the 15th region, because the 14th/15th drew each other in the state tourney. An official was removed or removed himself from the game because his school was involved and did not want any questions like the ones being talked about today. Was the smart thing to do. Unfortunately, the smartest thing to do was not done and now there are a lot of questions flying around about the Corbin Principal and his friendship with the Superintendent of Estill County. Just sad that it could of been taken care of before it happened. :lame:
come on KCC fans, cry my a river. one of sports great quotes. losers make excuses, and winners make adjustments.

He only got to pick 2 of the 3 officials last night and also had his #1 Official as the alternate. He had everything covered last night. :eyeroll:

Rumor has it... That the officials were seen getting in a sliver suburban with Pepsi on the side. Tim Short dealer tags, and Jimmie Mills driving.

Take off the tin-foil hats on this one.
For those of us who watched the game, it was evident Estill County earned this one.
Knott County turned up the pressure and made a game of it in the second half, but they could not close this one out.
Officiating was never in question.

Tell me what you think Zaga. I think it was one of those "we know what you want to do and we're going to plan for that rather than doing what we do" type of mindset from Knott. That chess game is not typically successful.
A championship team MAKES you play to their style and beats you at their own game. Estill did just that. Knott tried to adjust rather than force their style on Estill until the 3rd quarter. They dug too deep of a whole and ran out of time.
Estill has been jerked around regions over the years. They've been forced to travel an insane distances for these regional tournaments with small exceptions for the years the tournament is in Stanton. I have the same feeling for them that I did when Buckhorn made the run a few years ago. I'm happy for Coach Bentley in the same way I was Coach Noble. They've built something special.
I love my team. I know our fans get a bad rap for whining. It's because it's true they do. I know my former adversaries from my younger days on here who are Commodore and Bulldog faithful love their teams, too. But man, it's refreshing for some other schools to get a shot every now and then. I'll root for KCC 11 times out of 10 against anyone, but I love the Sweet 16 and I wish everyone could get a chance to experience it as a fan as I did when I went to my first one.
I'll never cheer against the 14th whether it's Cordia, Perry, JBS, Hazard, Lee, Owsley, Riverside, Jackson City.
My underlying point? Can we please move on from the conflict of interest? If there is a rule (there very well may be, I don't have time to research nor the interesting in spending the time doing so) concerning conflicts of interest and someone from the KSHAA or its representative in their capacity violated a rule, then we'll talk. Should there be such a rule? Maybe. Are they putting one in? Who knows? I don't. If you don't like the KSHAA, get out.
To SK, and other Estill fans. Embrace it. Take off work (if you can), sit in the section from the tickets from the school, get tickets to the other sessions, and enjoy the last pure high school basketball atmosphere in the USA, the Kentucky Sweet 16.

I think Knott tried to play their game early on, but the Doty's made it hard to crash the boards and Estill really made every possession count (no matter how long it took) on offense while forcing Knott to take tougher shots and blocking a few.
I think Knott's third quarter run was more of an adjustment to what Estill was doing than it was getting back to what they normally do. Admittedly, I don't see as much of Knott County as I used to now that I cover the 54th on the radio. But from what I've seen, the press and traps they were setting in the second half weren't typical. But I don't know that I've even seen Knott play from behind this year.

Love it Matthew Bonny! Finally someone with enough guts to use their own name and then print the TRUTH!
Engineers back to back 20+ win seasons, back to back district titles (3 out of last 4), 2018 14th Reg Coach of the Year, Jon Bentley (ECs all time winningest coach) and 2018 14th Region POY Caleb Bonny, who also took Region MVP. Who also is EC boys all-time leading scorer(currently 2400+ and rising) Andrew and Lane Doty, best "big combo" in school history, Andrew leads state in fg% and his brother is a "beast" in the paint. Joe Benton, unbelievable in the clutch, amazingly gifted passer and a true coach on the floor. Kevin Richardson, another underrated player who comes up big when needed. JT O'Hair, amazing athlete and LOCK DOWN defender. Not to mention the best bunch of freshmen in the 14th!!! EC is here to stay!!!
Another note: Coach Bentley is joined an elite club of individuals who have played in Sweet Sixteen on Rupp's floor, he played there on EKU's team, and now will lead his Engineers into battle there for first time in school history!!! AMAZING!!!!
Go Engineers!!! Keep proving all the "experts" wrong!

in that case, Bentley won the 14th region as a player and now as a coach.

It's funny to listen to knott fans complain about feferees when all the other teams in the 14th had to deal with refs that tommy h the assigner for the 14th retired from the knott school system.
