I want to hear from Shelby Valley's fan base about this game.
I had one of the best seats in the house last night, the T on SV's coach was bogus. The ref that called the T told the scores table said something to the effect of "he was out of the coaching box." Was the SV coach out of the box, maybe? This T was called right after a foul and T was called on a SV player. The SV coach was yelling at his team for them to come to the sideline when the T was called. IMO, the ref thought the SV coach was yelling at him and over reacted. No, this is not me blaming the referee's for what happened, but you gotta let the players decide games. Not sure if a T can be recalled during an in-game situation, if the other refs saw what the SV coach was doing, they should have stepped up and done the right thing and recalled the T from SV's head coach. The ref had called the foul & the T on the SV player and was walking towards the score table and called the T on the SV coach.
4 T's called on SV in the 2nd half was crazy. No fights, no excessive physical contact, no type of obvious disrespect towards the refs or towards the conduct of the game.
I'm not placing the blame on Belfry for anything that happened. They played hard and made the plays to get the W.
Total Fouls
SV - 25 (4 Technical)
Belfry - 15
Free Throws
Belfry: 22/35
SV: 7/9
There was 6 lead changes.
The score was tied 7 times.
SV's largest lead was by 3.
Belfry's largest lead was by 7.

Valley got hosed big time. Embarrassing officiating. So bad that it was impossible to tell if it was just total incompetence or deliberate. And I'm the farthest thing from a Valley fan.

Not saying it was right or wrong, but answer me this, it's okay for a coach to run out to the middle of the floor right in front of God and everyone flailing his arms like a crazy person and yelling, just because one of his players fouled, then clapped in another players face and got himself a technical? Whether or not he was yelling at his own players, the ref, or the other coach, is not the point, sounds like to me he was way out of line. He is allowed on the floor like that if a fight is about to break out or has broke out, but like you said nothing like that went on, so there was no reason for him to be their doing that. Cost his team for over reacting himself.
Just my opinion on the situation.
As for the other T's I was not their to see what or why they were called, but my guess is for unsportsmanlike conduct, such as clapping in peoples faces or saying something inappropriate. Just my guess!
Good game for both teams, Congrats to Belfry!

And as for bad officiating, I believe those 3 guys were all State Tournament Officials, with one of them going back this year.

Shelby Valley the runner-up of their district tournament was the region favorite? Really??? I didn't think there was a clear favorite.

I think Hicks' reputation got him that technical, but it certainly changed the game for SV and was probably the wrong call. That being said, adjustments must be made and they weren't. Congrats to SV. Good luck to the other remaining teams in dealing with these officials.

Favorite? I don't think you can call a district runner up a favorite. Other than Prestonsburg I think every team in the field can win this thing. So I don't know how anyone can be called a favorite.

4 T's and they lose by 3? KILLER!! Were the T's by the same official? If so, I smell something foul. If the T's were by different officials it may be on SV.

While I do agree that these 14th region officials have had quick triggers with technicals not just tonight but they fouled Pike Centrals Kylea Stanley out with a technical in the 3rd quarter the night before when they weren't much there. I don't have a problem with the coach getting the T especially if it was for being out to far. in my opinion the 15th officials are to blame for that one cause every SV game ive been too this year they allowed him to do it on a lot of occasions. In the district championship he was on the playing floor almost at halfcourt yelling a play on one occasion. I don't agree with the one on Worrix, that one like Stanleys the night before was ridiculous. The whole clapping in each others face thing I wouldn't have personally called it especially in the postseason when emotions are going high. However that does kinda fall in like with unsportsmanlike and the refs have been encouraged to shut that stuff down. Again I don't agree with all that. But I wouldn't say they got hosed. They were in the game the whole way. if a couple more plays went their way or they made a couple shots that they shoudnt have missed could've been the difference. Belfry made a lot of offensive rebounds also and some second chance points that Shelby Valley allowed too. Im in no way a fan of either school. That's just my opinion.

Yes, Belfry was the higher seed because they won the 60th. But, SV hadn't lost a game in almost 2 months until their District Finals and they also have three really great players in Potter, and perhaps the fastest backcourt in the region in Worrix & Burke.
Belfry & SV came in as the two hottest teams in the Region. This game should have been for the Regional Final, but as the luck of the draw goes, it wasn't. SV also had the second best record at 22-8, Belfry was 19-12.

worth noting that i think one of the technical free throws on the Hicks T was missed...

great win for belfry but don't pump it up??? this is just simply untrue.

It's definitely a tough break for Hicks and SV, but they should be considered the preseason favorites next year returning a pretty solid team.

Looking at the records on KHSAA, SV hadn't lost a game since January 31st vs. Tug Valley. SV had also beaten Belfry at Belfry on Feb. 10th.

Other than the 3 point win against Belfry though who did they beat in those games? One against a 8-20 East Ridge team. 2 against a slightly better 9-20 Magoffin County. 1 against a 8-22 LC team. 1 against a 11-20 Sheldon Clark team. And one against a 0-29 Jenkins. Even with Belfrys record a combined record of 56-123. Not really that impressive.

Belfry lost to SV 73-70 on Feb.10th, that's the only time they played this season. SV did lose to Pikeville three times this season, but SV still had the 2nd best regular season record in the region behind Pike Central.
PCC - 24-8
SV - 22-8
Pikeville - 21-9
Belfry 19-12

1 T was called later by a different ref.
The first set of T's was a double T on Potter of SV and Harris(I think) for Belfry.
Then the ref thought coach Hicks was out of box or yelling at them so they T'd him up and would not rescind it.
Worrix got the other T for saying something to the ref or the Belfry bench.
