Your Dream Matchups From Teams In The Past?
#1
What are some teams from the past that you would have loved to have seen play?
#2
One matchup that I would have loved to have seen was the 1987 Pikeville Panthers vs the 2016 Belfry Pirates. It's not that I think this game would have been all that close because the Pikeville team would have probably won by at least 2 touchdowns, it's just that it would have been a game between two rivalry schools that would have featured both of these schools two best teams in their respective histories.

Is that the best Belfry team? Better than the '03 or '04 teams?

Is '87 the best of that three year run? According to Lit Ratings the '88 team was higher and maybe better defensively.

The 87 Pikeville team was for sure better. Anyone who says differently never saw the teams play. Many say they were the best team in Kentucky regardless of classification. You're the only person I have ever heard even want to debate that. I also feel that the 2016 Belfry team was the best. Maybe some Belfry folk have a different perspective.

I was just going by empirical data. As far as being best of all classes, could be. I did radio for the Danville team that year and they were pretty good themselves.

Which Danville team absolutely destroyed Belfry in the Pike County Bowl? That is the worst beat downs I have every seen Belfry receive.

I think that was in the early 90's.

The '87 Danville team sported Tim McDaniel at FB (who later set the Centre College rushing records), Donnie Redd at HB (UK player), and David Walker at the other HB. Mike Clevenger was the QB.

The line was huge for their day ( about 250 per across the board).

Only loss was to St Xavier who finished 10-1.

Sheldon Clark's only two Regional Championship teams. 1998 and 2009
Both teams went 6-4 in the regular season
Both teams put together a great playoff run on the road. 98 team beat Whitley County, Pulaski SW, and Belfry to win a regional title then lost in the semifinals to Jared Lorenzen led Highlands 44-28. 2009 team also put together a great playoff run on the road beating Russell, Belfry, and Pike Central to win a regional title then lost in the semifinals to Somerset 28-12. Both teams had amazing athletes and a lot of fight. Jim Matney coached the 1998 team and Shawn Hager coached the 2009 team. I believe Hager and Matney are 1-1 lifetime so that would make for an interesting rubber match. Also the 98 team avenged two regular season losses to Whitley and Belfry beating both in the playoffs. The 09 team avenged two regular season losses to Pike County Central and Belfry beating both in the playoffs.

I would've loved to see some of the late 70's early 80's Corbin teams play. I was telling someone the other day imagine how awesome it would be if hudl was around back then. You could pull up and watch some of your schools or schools across the states greatest teams.

Saw the ‘77 team and the ‘82 Corbin team. ‘77 was one of the strongest teams I ever saw. I thought they were far superior to the ‘82 team IMO.

Pikeville 2015. The second half team. First half team would have done well. But different dimension in second part of season after Battaile took over at QB.

There's barely any differences between Belfry's 4 recent title teams because it was all the same teams minus 1 or 2 here and there but they lost no major key players. If you go based on scores of games, 2015 was slightly better. But dropping 52 points on Central in the 2016 Title game was pretty impressive.

1997 Breathitt vs. 1997 Bourbon. May have ben the most talented Breathitt team, got upset in the rain and mud at Lawrence County.(Game before Bourbon) Bourbon finished 3rd in a tough district with Lex Cath and Boyle, losing handily to both regular season before upsetting both in the playoffs. 97' Breathitt winners of 42 straight games vs. Upset minded 97' Bourbon.

1995 Breathitt Co. vs. 1995 Leslie Co.

Leslie and Breathitt were district rivals and Leslie had beaten them a couple years in a row including a blowout win in 1994.. So the following year, Breathitt drops to 2A and dominates, winning the State Championship. While Leslie suffered they're second straight 3A Semi-Final loss..
It was hard to swallow, hearing that they were one of the best teams of all time in the mountains, knowing that if they hadn't moved down, they wouldn't have won the district (In my opinion)

Danville was in Bourbon's District as well.
