No one wants Glenn and his crony Mark getting ideas on who to stab in the back next.

Just having a little fun with you. I think you intended to type mystique instead of mystic. But, it was better the way you had it. I like the thought of a mystic casting spells as she is leaving Clay County.

Very good question. I don't know the answer because KHSAA.org only goes back to '98. In short, it's been awhile.

As long as GG is the coach at Clay County his teams will always under perform. He will continue to run kids off until he achieves his political promises. Iâve said it before and Iâll say it again a politician can not be a successful coach. If the BOE doesnât require him to resign then they are subject to being replaced during the next election.

Steve Wright is back in Ky. I can hear it now...he wants too much money! Can’t let him get away if given the opportunity.

As someone who attended the 49th district tourney at OBI I will say it was a great atmosphere, that there were empty seats each night and that no one appeared to be turned away at the gate.

I'm not sure that Clay County has ever had more than one or two "out of state" recruits in the 30+ years that I've been alive, and the two that I am thinking of who were good players each had very close family ties to the area and returned there [and I'm guessing that 95% of the audience here would struggle to name those two, as one was a far better athlete in another sport anyway].
Either way, I'm the guy whose rep was defending Cordia because I think that what they are/were doing is great... no one cared about them having kids that weren't birthed on Lotts Creek until they started winning games, just the same that no one currently cares that OBI or Red Bird does the same [the difference being that those schools don't win, so most don't care]. I guess that you could say that I'm a rather lLaissez-faire observer.
To say that most powers that be in the State haven't benefitted from transfers at one time or another would be as asinine as a local board member who could be perceived as interested in a matter flying off the cuff and commenting on personnel matters (when you'd think that they should know better, especially by now)... but that hasn't happened anywhere that I can think of...

So no one gets confused on my stance... I think there's a very fair middle ground for those who think that the Superintendent is doing just fine and those who think that there are (plenty of) better coaches than Gray if that's how it ends up working out.

I can name one of them. Asher, who moved from Indianapolis, played for UofL and the Redskins.

Precisely on Jamie Asher of NFL fame. Didn't play football at Clay County, but did suit up for the basketball team. Very, very deep family ties to the area [unless people were faking being his cousins for decades as part of a very deep conspiracy at least].
The other was Dante' Wade who played (and started) at Providence but was declared ineligible at some point. Can say with certainty [if it's within the rules here] that he had family members that were also enrolled in the school system and that had jobs within the community [which would seemingly be outside the purview of the staff when it came to hiring] as well.
Remember seeing Dante as a little kid and the dude was like a superhero-- talk about a dunk contest during warm-ups; I don't know if I've seen many others dunk a basketball that hard. Many friends and classmates played on the same grade school football team as one of his close family members and if anyone in the community had anything negative to say about them, I can honestly say that I haven't heard it personally.
Don't want to get into too much of a morass here [by comparing to other present situations], but if it were today, I'd seriously doubt that his eligibility would have ever been called into question.

I think since a grade school resume is all you need to coach Clay......there is a grade school coach that has formed a dynasty that should be considered.....he has just as many wins on the grade school circuit has Glenn did back in his day........so lets get this trending in our community......... #shutyourmouthandvoteforralph

Nah... my vote is for every grade school coach with a county championship, boys & girls, past and present... they have a rotation and whoever is head coach for the night wears a yellow safety vest with reflectors, that way everyone knows who gets the credit. That'd be awesome [bonus points if the person is unfamiliar with grammar and syntax but doesn't actually recognize it].

I will never say never, and I'm not saying that he isn't a great coach, but I'll put it this way-- if Steve Wright ever became the Coach of Clay County High School, I'd be rather surprised.
In general, the program has hired people with very close connections-- Spider Thurman, Campbell (if he was a coach?), Skyler Garrison, Bobby Keith, Mike Jones, Robert Marcum-- each played for Clay County. Don't know if Gray played basketball for Clay County, but he was a good athlete at the school as well. The only exception I can really think of would be Kevin Spurlock.
Yes, at points, there were rumors of Rodney Woods, but those were just that and most likely wishful thinking on the part of Tiger fans (as were thoughts of Booher post-Shelby Valley).
If Clay County didn't seriously consider Daniel Brown when he was in the transition period from North Laurel to Henry Clay, then I'd be surprised if they went after Steve Wright. I don't think this one is a possibility either, but I'd honestly say that I'd be less shocked if they went after Brad Sizemore (who attended Clay County schools early on).

Uuuuhhhmmm.... was it the losing record or the complete lack of confidence and support from the usually loyal fan base and boosters (who don't write for the local paper)?
I legit know this stuff. Like, once I got an award for being the third best journalist in a region {([limited to towns under 7,000 people) who wrote for a paper that published only once per week] and even compared it to an Oscar to my audience of plebians}. People called me a fathead at work, but I thought the joke went over like a turd in a punch bowl, but hey, they are just jealous of all I've achieved!

Relax Tiger faithful..........Have faith. Having a social media committee to search for a coach when we have one is fruitless.

Bring Richie Farmer in to coach with his brother Russ. Also bring in Russ Chadwell to help. What is Richie doing now anyways? He doesn't have to be a teacher or anything. If he has enough college hours he could just be a substitute teacher in that case. Talking about bringing back the glory years. Why haven't they tried to lure Richie back????

I think it was just as much that it seemed to be fair game to put others with ties to the area on blast publicly now though. Isn't that what kind of got some of this really stirred up? I mean, I still don't think Glenn is the right guy, but I used to keep that mostly to myself.

So, I don't know you... but I'm going to go ahead and share a proverb with you: if that's some kind of "has been" joke, then I'd still rather be a has been than a "never was".

Is there a chance there might some changes with the assistants? Just wondering because it's obvious that there isn't a lot of scouting opponents being done. Unless all of the returners put in a lot of work and maybe grow some I don't see Clay having a legitimate chance of being a regional contender next year. The defense was poor to fair, and maybe the worst at defending the 3 I've ever seen and I'm not sure what the offensive plan was at all. The loss of Rogers will hurt and IMO I think Langdon should've gotten more minutes this year. If you're going to lose you might as well lose with those that will be back next year.

Who picked the assistants? Commence what supporters are left throwing assistants under the bus now?
