The two biggest that I can remember are Pineville over JA Cawood during the Phil Cox years and Jackson County over Corbin in 1991.

Cumberland actually winning the region in 2003 I believe was a huge upset in itself

Pineville over Cawood is biggest I remember!

Pineville over Cawood 1978 - by far the biggest.
Cawood was 24-1 at that point and the favorite in the region. Pineville had a losing record.

That is the biggest surprise regional champion, I agree, but Cumberland really only had to beat one team that was quite a bet better than them and that was Rockcastle in the finals. Cumberland did have a senior-dominated team that played pretty well late in the season.

Phil was only a freshman that year and was more of a role player to Coldiron, Rhymer, Clem....
I thought it was 94 on Jackson over Corbin - wasn't 91 the year Corbin won the region for the first time in years?

You are correct. It was 94. Corbin went to the state quarter-finals in 91, where they came very close to upsetting state champion Fairdale.

Iâll go with Pineville-Cawood too as the biggest upset for sure, but for just games standing on their own, that Corbin-Jackson game may have been the most exciting I ever saw in the 13th region. Mitchell Madden and the skinny kid Jackson had, think he was a Bingham, were just unbelievable that night.
