Jackson Co. 72 Clay Co. 67

Final from OBI, I think this is the first time since 1977 that Clay will be a no show in the 13th Regional Tournament....Somebody Correct me if I'm mistaken.
#2
It was 1977 for the boys. Anyone know the last time the girls and boys didn't make it the same year? Or if it has ever happened?
#3
How bad cramped was that gym tonight, and did they have to turn any away? I figured it might not have been as bad as expected, because everyone figured it would be miserable and stayed home, or stayed home because it was it was just at OBI. Lol.

Clay County had made it to the region tournament for 40 straight years. All good things must come to an end I guess. Congrats to Jackson County.

The radio said it was packed and had standing room only. People starting lining up before 5pm for the game.

Heart goes out to the kids. They deserved better.

In his three years as Clay County's coach, Gray has won one regional tournament game and that was followed up by losing to Barbourville on his home floor in the semis. Before everyone talks about that year being a bad group, please think about the success they'd had in AAU in grade school and middle school.

Again, you hate it for the kids.

Congrats Generals.

I’d rather won the game then change occur but maybe it will regardless. Notice how Clay came back from down 15 with a man to man. I don’t know why I’m surprised, that was the case all year. “They’ll eventually miss.”
#9
That’s a great streak Clay had for 40 years. Things may be changing in the mountains though . Nothing there to offer at all now. The Clay county’s of east ky may be fading away. Congrats to a very good Jackson County team

all true

The administration in Clay County got exactly what it deserved. They ran Marcum off to get Gray. But in all honesty don’t think Marcum would have made a difference, Gray had the same problem Marcum had and its controlling the outside politics and parents.

This is only his 2nd year as head coach this time around.

Marcum would have done better because he is a better coach. His record speaks for itself.
You are right, the powers that be did run Coach Marcum off and got exactly what they wanted. My question is, if he didn't work the first time, what made them think it would be better now? Or maybe it was just being able to dictate and control.

We know he couldn't have done any worse than a sub- .500 record and first round loss in district play.

Those kids have got it just fine.
In those 3 years, theyve won one regiin game, but it is one more win than whitley has had in my lifetime

He may not have done much worse. But with the loaded teams that Marcum had there should have been more success than what was there. Glenn has no discipline on this team allowing players to quit and come back and allowing parents and family’s in practice and locker room. And marcum has no discipline either. Allowing a player to do whatever and have no consequences and we all seen how that last game ended . Clay needs a fresh start with someone not affiliated with the program who doesn’t have to answer to all the clay politics and pressure from the outside

I want to congratulate Clay County Coaches for breaking a 40yr Record with a very talented team, any time you break a record a congratulations is in order. First time in 40years Clay Co. Tigers didn't make it to 13 region tourney. Time to Thin the coaching herd.
#21
Congrats to Generals.

Marcum had no choice with that player. You know as well as I do the county thought he was the second coming and had him up on a pedestal no one could dare touch.
It doesn't matter where a coach comes from, those people who still think it is 1986 will never let them run the program.
They got who they wanted. They got the results everone else knew was going to happen. They traded a very knowledgeable , capable coach for an average guy.

Maybe I should have sent my whistle to the officials tonight!

Breaking News!!!!!

STREAK BUSTED

Does anyone know, when the last time Clay was below .500?
#26
Congratulations Jackson County. It's honestly not that big of a deal to beat Clay County these days, the mystic is long gone!

Trust me, I realize that.

I was just making the point that, in his three years at the helm, the team has won only one regional tournament game.

As has already been covered here ad nauseam as well, they've now had a streak of 40 straight years of going to the regional tournament ended.

If you look at the trends, the program has actually regressed in each of his three years. Now that it's reached the point of losing first round district games though, at least it won't get any worse (said while holding breath that OBI or Redbird doesn't beat us in a first round game in the future).

Who is this mysterious Clay County mystic you speak of? Why did she leave Clay County?
