Saw this one coming. Seat getting hot in Clay already?

Clay will have a hard time finishing the season with a winning record. They are 13-14 now and play a pretty good Bell County team next. Sounds like the pressure is getting to the coach? Got a T tonight and looking down the bench wishing he hadnât ran off all those players.

Hopefully Clay can come back. They have a very young team. The future is high in The City Of Hope.

Clay is obviously struggling this season but Knox, much like North, is a terrible matchup for them. They can find a way to play with Corbin, South, Jackson, etc. Running might be their worst enemy.

The seat has been hot since the moment he took it over. Say what you want about Marcum, but the man had practically brought the program back from the dead.
Give Mike Jones credit. He came in to an unenviable situation where he was following Bobby Keith and he brought the program one (in 2001... where he got to State and won a game) and was close in some other years [but for Aaron Cash being a once in a generation player for Rockcastle County at the same time he came in and the narrative may be far different].
Marcum had a good record, and, from all accounts, seemed to be on good terms with what, for lack of a better term, I'd call "the old guard" (i.e., those involved with the program during it's heyday who'd earned the right to have their voice heard because deep down, they wanted what was best for the program too).
Personally, I think that if you give Grey the team that Marcum won the region with in 2012-2013, youâd probably be hearing all the excuses: itâd be a "rebuilding year" where the team was looking forward to the future and the sunshine pumpers supporting him were talking up the likes of OBI, Redbird, Jackson County, Whitley County, etc. as "dangerous" teams who were "better than their record indicates" despite the fact that they are the same types of teams that Clay County still held serve against in even down years.
I have left the area since Marcum left and neither know the entire story as to precisely how that decision went down, nor do I wish to speculate as to precisely what went down or pretend to act like I know exactly what transpired, but I will say this: as the head coach, Glenn is just in over his headâthis is not a one year problem and will only continue to get worse. Whether or not that is an indictment solely of his ability as a head coach or the culmination of a multitude of factors including the complete and utter cluelessness of some of those around him is an entirely different animalâhowever, at this point, it would seem that he has gotten most everything heâs wantedâ and now we see exactly how that is working out.
I do not think that there has been a single point in (either) tenure as head coach where he's had the confidence and support of the community.
Simply put, I think that there are multiple realistic candidates out there who would be better at the helm than what heâs already repeatedly shown. To lose the support of a fan base as passionate as Clay County in the manner in which heâs done is... well, itâs been something.

Glenn is obviously in over his head. Plenty of talent on the floor and I'm tired of hearing it's young. My question is what credentials did Glenn have to be named head basketball coach at CCHS? Was it the elementary success where he clearly had better talent for 99% of the games played? Glenn played baseball at LMU so why was he never interested in the baseball job? Let's hope the right decisions are made before the basketball program gets into the shape the football program was in recently.

Clay County has a young team, but from what I have seen they have a bright future

Knox is scary good at times

Well Iâll have to give credit to the panthers, they are a very good team. A team that could probably go nine deep on the bench and still come out on top, good team. And now ur clay county tigers, what can u say, BAD COACHING, but we all know that. A technical (you can tell exactly what he said) now that will fire the team up, lol. Knox Central is catching up with as many asst coaches as clay, but all there asst was coaching, but clays well one of them was. You have to have, good asst coaches to back the coaches, clay has stumps. Clay has very good talent, that needs to be controlled, if things stay the way they are next year. some players will leave the team. If things keep going the way they are now, clay fan base will be extinct. Donât get me wrong kids arenât the same as used to be, different breed, but it is what it is. With the right coach they can overcome the differences. I hate to see the tiger who worked so hard to make a name to be feared, to be lost.

Domination.... This isn't your Dad's Clay County team....

Posters Clay County did score 69pts against Knox Central last night and thatâs not bad at all or is Knox defense weak going into district and regional play..............just thinking to myself

Statistically, Knox is the worst defensive team in the region.

I think that much is obvious. No one expects them to be that. In the Jackson County/Clay County thread a week or two ago, I laid out what I thought would be reasonable expectations for the Tiger community to have, and I think that those are not being met (and that most would agree). There's a huge difference between Clay County of the late 80's and early 90's.
It is funny that you say "this isn't your Dad's Clay County team" because two starter's fathers played large roles on the '87 team that won state (with one of the two being named to the All Tournament Team). Also, another freshman's father was named to the All State Tournament team and, if the kid that I am thinking of is correct, yet another kid's grandfather was named to the All State Tournament team as well.
Right now, I think the biggest thing Glenn could do to help the program is to just keep any kids from leaving soon so the next coach at least has all of the kids the program was expecting to have. Sadly, if what I am hearing comes to fruition, then it would be one to two MAJOR blows to the Tigers, especially given where the kids may end up.

Scoring 69 doesn't matter when you give up 94.
The game was at Clay County and the Tigers usually play a little better at home as well. I think that if you look at their home/road splits, you would see a trend that would support that, even against opponents that they've also played on the road (i.e., they score more at home than on the road in all of their district games except against North Laurel).
Would like to see the full stats before commenting on Knox Central defensively, as Clay County could have gotten a lot of their total late once the game was already out of reach.
From what I saw of Knox Central in the WYMT Mountain Classic, I would imagine that they would be the favorite to win region if everyone is at the top of their game. Given Corbin's recent slide, I think that South Laurel is probably the biggest threat to Knox Central right now.
With South Laurel and Corbin having to be in opposite brackets, the draw will be very interesting, as one of the biggest things working against Knox Central is that they could have to go through South Laurel/Corbin in Round 1, North Laurel in Round 2, and then South Laurel/Corbin in the final. They also cannot draw Lynn Camp, who is probably the team that most others would hope to draw given their recent loss to OBI. However you shake it out for Knox Central, it is going to be a tough road to win.

Nothing wrong with Knox's defense at all. They jumped out to a 16-2 or 18-2 lead in the blink of an eye. Coach Patterson could have pressed (but chose not to) & spot-played a LOT of his bench. Coach P. kept it classy IMHO.

Finishing runner up in the 50th will make for a tough draw.

Wow.
It sounds like this one was over once Knox Central stepped off the bus.

I like Tony - best coach we've had in a long time. And while there are many words that could be used to describe him... Classy wouldn't be the one I would choose. But i do agree that giving up 69 points has nothing to do with Defense when you score 94 - that's plus 25 which is all that matters.
