I will go ahead and say that if this kid in the video was a kid that was averaging 2 points a game and playing very few mins, he would of been dismissed yesterday morning. Win at all cost is alive and well.
I never said he had posted racial slurs, I was just making the point that we all say things a little differently when we feel they're not going to be made public for all to see.

He is old enough to know right from wrong. Also, if he was provoked in any way, that does not justify his actions. I understand that this video was on his personal page outside of school functions, but as a member of team, he represents them on and off the court. A three game suspension is not a punishment that fits crime in my opinion. As far as this keeping him from a PERSONAL goal of being the second leading scorer, I don't feel sorry for him. As much as I would have liked to see him achieve it, it doesn't matter how hard you work, actions have consequences.
I'm sure they would like to see a few scoring records get broken, but keeping an all-state caliber guard on the roster means a decent chance at getting to Rupp and possibly doing some damage along the way, depending on what matchups that the 13th region draws at state.
I'm well aware of the comments that this player made towards a certain South laurel player in the past, so what happened over the weekend really comes as no surprise. At 19, he's not a minor anymore, but it's easy to trace where his beliefs come from, especially when his mother refers to Knox Central as thug nation on her Facebook page.

First of all I want to go on the record of saying I am a proud Corbin fan, and supporter. I do not condone the comment that was made, but unlike so many I realize it is not my place to pass judgement on any kid for displaying a moment of weakness and bad character. I have watched the video countless times, and there is honestly no way to spin what was said, it was said. Is that a statement that reflects every person in Corbin, absolutely not. If you ask in a one on one setting 99 percent would agree, it is not that we have taken a side in this matter he was clearly in the wrong by his words. There is no opinion that isn’t going to make someone mad and cause a negative response back.
With all that being said the comment about kid from south aggravates me to no extreme, I have coached Ramey and he is one of the hardest workers in the region and in my opinion may be the best in basketball out of all the kids spoken about. I have coached him in baseball and I know this kids ability. To overcome and compete at the level he plays in any sport says wonders about his work ethic.
I for one hope the kid from Knox and Corbin play at the next level, I want every kid in our area to be given the chance to extend there careers as all of us should. We are the adults and are suppose to be the ones encouraging success for the youth not be blinded by jealousy and a moment of weakness. They both have made bad choices this season and not that two wrongs make a right but the mom from Knox posted a comment that said it ok my son called him a cracker after the spanking they took last game, no one mentioned that. No one also ask the question why did the kid recording do it, why was there a comment on the intro with an emoji scratching its chin. Maybe the one recording had a motive to set the speaker up we don’t know what was said prior to the recording other then he ask him what was that. I am not making excuses by no means, I am just saying that it is called entrapment when an individual sets another up to fail. As for one I don’t particularly care for the speaker but I don’t want him to loose 19 years hardwork for 9 seconds of ingnorance. I think until we know all the details we shouldn’t pass judgement.
Last but not least, Corbin schools cannot do anything in this matter as it was not on school property or a school function. Coach P is an outstanding coach a leader of our kids, not one bad word to say about him. He is a first class guy who is passionate about teaching kids the game that he loved to play, and I know he doesn’t condone this either, but he has a job and his job is to teach and win games. You can’t expect him to remove the kid from his team, what kind of mentor would give up on a kid whether it be superstar or water boy. I think the boy that recorded it and posted it is as guilty or more guilty than the one who made the comment. I noticed that several comments said that the boy who said it posted it and that again was not true. Now to the apology, we may not have thought the wording was right choice but who can argue his choice of words created this situation why would we think the apology would be the right choice. That convinced me that it was his own words not one that was prepaired by anyone else, so unless anyone has a crystal ball that can define his heart we will never know if he meant it or not but we do know it was his words and we as adults need to forgive as we have been forgivin. I think both kc kid and Corbin kid should take a diversity and anger management every Saturday until they can play a game of one on one and not hate on each other, it may save both there lives and futures.

Only Corbin fans would think this is about basketball. Many post are heading in that direction. I donât care if he scored 2 a game or 50 a game it has NOTHING to do with that. To even hint Knox is doing it so they can win a game down the road is uneducated.

Well, while this is a big deal in the area, this is going to be my last post on the issue.
While Bossdaddy's post is understandable, I still say that the 19 year old "kid" needs to learn from his past verbal faux pas. This is not the first time that he has opened his mouth to slurs and general insensitivity.
I don't know if he's coddled at home or not. I'm not familiar with the family. But he sure acts like a spoiled little brat. Time for him to take accountability.

First off, Knox and Corbin absolutely hate each other. Every sport. Every game.
2017 region tournament. Everyone hears how good Knox is and Corbin upsets them. #21for Corbin says after being interviewed heâs glad Corbin is the one who sends them home crying. Next season.
Knox and Corbin play first game. Tensions are high. Chippy game. Knoxâs student section has a sign that says â<#21> sits to peeâ. In the game #21 for Corbin is drug down by the back of his jersey to the ground (there are pictures) and somehow is Tâd up himself. Knox wins a chippy game. In the game this past Friday, Knoxâs student section again brings signs saying #21 for Corbin sits to pee. After the game a roll of toilet paper is thrown onto the floor after the game from them. The entire game you can tell itâs chippy, and you can see #21 for Corbin and (#1) for Knox trash talking the whole time. Chippy fouls. Physical plays. Then with about a minute or so left in the game #21 is driving and gets shoved in the back from a kid. That kid gets Tâd. Donât know if anyone noticed it but a few of the kids got into in the handshake line after the game. Trash talking went on the entire game. I sat in the front row and none of the talk was distinguishable. Anyone who says they could hear it just wants a camera in their face. Place was too loud for it. After the game, The video surfaces. I will refer to him as a kid. I do not care his age, if youâre in high school youâre a kid. Yes the comment was ignorant, beyond ignorant. Even though a kid, he has to know that there are too many eyes on him to say something so stupid. Knowing the kid personally, i donât think he is racist. Heâs played with kids of various races, and been all around the US. I believe he got caught in the moment, was encouraged from his friends and said something ridiculous. Since, the kid has came out and apologized. What else do you expect the kid to do? Itâs egregious that so parents from Knox county are acting like they are while kids from Knox are laughing about it today. This is what happens when you pull adults into the situation. Itâs just hypocritical no one is mentioning the fact the mother of a Knox player said âmy boys called him a cracker the first game we played them and wonâ. Whether you wanna admit it or not, if itâs anyone but #21 it doesnât get blown up like this. The mother blew the situation up because it is #21, the same kid who said he was glad he sent Knox home crying. I may catch flack for it and this may get deleted, but if youâre gonna look at the situation look at it as a whole. The kid has absolutely been trashed by opposing teams, players, and adults of other teams. He even had a fake twitter page made of him. Now we wanna crucify him. Do you know what kids do.. kid things.. dumb things. Kids are dumb. And praise God that social media wasnât like it is now when i was in high school.

Did any other player have a video saying any racial slur? Are you saying it is Ok since they were trash talking during the game? Adults are taking it up, should they or should they just let it go? Apparently he has done it before and now taking it farther with this video, how does he learn?

I don't condone what was said, however, it sounds like those schools have a very unhealthy rivalry that needs to addressed by both administrations. Should the kid be held accountable for his words, sure. Suspend him for a couple of games. Should he lose his spot on the team or his scholarship? Absolutely not.
I don't know anything about his past, the rivalry or Corbin having a racism problem. All I know is that kids make mistakes. They blow the value of sports out of proportion and lots of times their parents are to blame. He needs to step up and do a press conference and address the situation. Apologize like a man. Tell the kid specifically that he is sorry. Ask for HIS forgiveness. And make a plea for both sides to come together and make something positive out of an extremely unhealthy situation.

No other player had a video saying racial slurs, but the mother of one of the Knox players said that her kids called him a cracker. Iâm not saying his statements were okay. And yes, parents who know nothing about the situation should let it go. The kids been suspended 3 games, one of which is a huge district game for them. Which may not seem like a big deal to some, for a kid who was chasing being the second leading scorer in KY state history it is a big deal. I think to pull his scholarship is ridiculous and thatâs what most parents from Knox wants. Everyone wants to be in front of the camera.

From a casual fans perspective, this is what makes rivalries great. We've really lost this type of pure hate over the years in sports. Too much "sportsmanship" (that really isnt) but it is definitely entertaining as hell.

I get what you're saying and I think rivalries are great but to this extreme is unacceptable IMO.
No two bball teams hated each other more than Lincoln/Boyle back just a few years ago. Games were always close. Student bodies giving each other crap. Games chippy. Always a fever pitch atmosphere. Still is this way to be honest. So I get it.
In saying that, if parents can't control their kids in the Knox Central/Corbin rivalry then the administration is obligated to do so. You cannot risk tensions being so high that it crosses a line.

There are certainly lines you can't cross and in today's world of technology, it seems several are flirting with that line, but the entertainment value from the radio announcers to uncle jumbo with a Twitter handle is wonderful.

It is really difficult to find any defense for the âkidâ when this is his second incident. Clearly he didnât learn any lessons from last year. One can only hope that this being so public he learns from this and becomes a more mature adult and competitor in the future. I donât think he should necessarily lose his scholarship, however athletic departments are constantly checking social media of their players so this may cause some very serious consequences for him. 3 games is not enough of a suspension in my opinion 6-8 games (about a quarter of the regular season) is more fair considering this isnât the first problem he has had.

Itâs getting out of hand. Years ago( early 90âs?), there was a brawl between Corbin and Laurel County that ended up involving adults going at it. I know for a fact that there have been words between a certain Corbin player and some South boys. As such, I expect that Corbin will face a pretty hostile crowd at South tommorrow night and there will be extra law enforcement there.

I think your definition of Entrapment and mine are vastly different.
Also, he used the words 'false light'. I don't know many non-attorneys who use that term either.
I grew up in Oneida, and that the Corbin administration sat by and didn't do anything when kids were waving nooses at the black kids on their team during the 2003 All "A" Classic was just a complete failure. If we are talking 'legal terms' like entrapment and false light, then I think that there's some case law that will show that a noose waved at a black person can be perceived as a threat that could bring punishment.
The horror stories you hear about Corbin athletics (i.e., have heard multiple close friends talk about the player's refusal to shake hands with black players, etc.) are why everyone is outraged. I will give him this, if he didn't go to Corbin High School, I don't think that this story is as big as it is. That's not his fault, but a failure of the system around him.
He made a mistake and kids are dumb and do dumb things sometimes, so no, I don't think he should lose 19 years of hard work, but at the same time, I think he's going to end up being the kid who, because of the social media age, will end up paying for the Corbin school system and community's consistently turning a blind eye to problems like this over and over.
That you have a yearbook photo like the one that was ran this past year, a viral social media video that people are defending and trying to justify by saying things like "he was called a cracker though" (when that word has almost no equivalence to the power of the n-word), "he's just a kid", "everyone else is doing it", "it's just trash talk and kids being kids", "this is an internal basketball matter", etc., is really doing more to fan the flames and keep the dialogue alive.
His apology was, at best, poorly worded. The response of the school, at best, seemed tone deaf. I think that earlier today, KSR mentioned that transparency in dealing with this is going to be paramount.
A long suspension might give things awhile to cool down, and while I'm not condoning this type of action, you know that, because of his history, there'll be opposing players and members of opposing student sections that go extremely hard on the young man. Another ugly incident, especially one at Corbin High School during a game that gets ugly, and it could wind up being an even bigger problem for him, as well as Corbin High School, and at some point, if ugly incidents keep occurring, it is going to be out of their control and in the hands of the KHSAA or a court system-- talk about getting ugly then.
I will say this, if I were the coach of a team like Doss and I'm going to Corbin High School, I'm asking my administration to reach out to the school and get assurances that there will be security and I'm also probably taking someone to film the behavior of the fans, etc., as a measure of documenting any incidents.

Like I stated earlier I do not condone, his behavior or any of this. There is no way to spin it to be ok, all I was saying is there are a lot more guilty than one and this is a bad deal. Yes entrapment of being recorded or not he shouldnât have said it but if your in a court case and someone uses a recording that you wasnât aware of as evidence it usually isnât allowed. By all means I donât want to get into a pissing contest over me saying he is guilty and taking everything else and slice it up and putting words in my mouth. So reread my post

Is it a better idea for the family to just advise him to let the coach know he's not coming back. My opinion is, that it let's stuff die down and let tempers die down. (Out of sight out of mind type thing.) I think this is the only way he saves any chance of college basketball.
Or, if he sits 3 games and comes back and maybe they make a run and win region? Sounds good, but that's sticking him right in the middle of the spotlight and keeping the issue going, and no doubt having people furious and still pushing the story to national media. Whether it's because they're mad Corbin won, or they feel like someone that done something that bad is being rewarded.
Interested to see what peoples real opinions are on this. Not Corbin bias or Corbin hatred opinions.

In the scenario youâve made its best for the kid to not come back. However, I donât think this happens and I wouldnât imagine this going to a national level level when he does come back.

I believe he should do what Furman tells him to do if he wants to continue his career. Not Mom, Dad , Corbin Administers and Community , needs to follow advice of College Coach. I am sure he has contacted them.

They've already sent it to national media. Pretty sure it was shared with every national news outlet by Knox people on Facebook. But if they was to beat Knox out with Taylor playing, I could only imagine how out of hand it would get.
