14th Region All A tournament?
#1
Now that Perry Central's All A representative says that the All A tourney can no longer be held at their gym, what are they going to do about having a place to play the tournament now? It was going to all be played in one facility this year, which would of been great for everyone to watch all the games. Now that they have no where to play it, how will all the games work out now?
How can you cancel out a place a couple weeks before the tournament and just leave all these teams hanging? A little unprofessional to do that to everyone involved. :redboxer:

What was their reasoning? I'm behind.
#3
If I was Knott I would not play in it.
#4
Things happen. I'm sure Perry Central had reasons to have to give up the tournament. Its my understanding it came down to either Knott Central or Breathitt Co. and the schools voted to have it at Breathitt Co.
#5
I heard the vote was close between Breathitt and Knott. Not a lot of teams wanted to give Knott the advantage of home court, probably a good idea.

Afraid it Looks like Perry just didn't want all these other teams to play in the gym where the regional tourney is. They don't have any transfers this year so they have to do whatever they can to gain an advantage. Whatever the reasoning, was still a bad way to do everyone after committing to the tournament.

Just trying to understand your reasoning here...

People wanting to keep the tournament out of Knott County for home court advantage is a good idea.
But Perry wanting to maintain their home court advantage is a bad idea?

Perry is not in the All A, they have had the tourney their for years now. After they have committed to hosting it, they should not be able to cancel just because they don't feel like having it. Especially just a couple weeks before the tournament. Didn't say it was a bad idea, just said it was very unprofessional to do to all of the All A teams. Now they are causing issues with a team that IS in the All A getting home court instead of it being on a neutral floor.

They should have to pay a fine for cancelling just because they don’t want to hosting It

I'll tell u who should pay a fine that's the teams who play in the all A with the enrollment of a 3A lol.

The state All A does not use enrollment categories to determine who plays in the All A tournament. They simply take the smallest 125 schools in the state in enrollment. If some All A eligible schools decide they don’t want to play in the tournament then the next school eligible will take their place. Obviously Knott has met the requirement as one of those schools or they couldn’t be entered.

A lot of people want to confuse the present day Knott to the Knott of the past when speaking of enrollment. Knott’s enrollment when they consolidated back in the 1970’s was probably more than double what it is now. They rank 5th in the region in enrollment, behind Perry, Letcher, Estill and Powell.

I heard that the principal did not want it there and they moved it.
#12
Breathitt County hosting now?
#13
Breathitt is hosting the All A according to people I’ve talked with..but hasn’t officially been announced
#14
Anyone have a bracket for this tournament?
#15
All A has been a joke for several years..... Turned to a political issue with the only true A schools gettin the shaft...
#16
i was told that perry personnel said they didn't have enough people to work the tournament and that's why they couldn't host. that's a joke. and the all a committee is going to have to have a cut off because 3a schools playing in an all a tournament is a little ridiculous
#17
How many students do you think Knott has?
#18
I would say 600
#19
It has 693
#20
And say someone like hazard has less than 350. That's a huge difference
#21
Buckhorn has about 200. Huge difference
#22
Knott has 571 students grades 9-12.

It don't take much to get people tore up nowadays.

As for Knott Central, this isn't even the first time they've been in the All-A. They won regional All-A a few years ago when they were loaded. All-A always invites the same amount of schools and they go from the bottom up in enrollment. This isn't new. If you want to be mad about something, be mad about the private schools up north who basically recruit openly and always have a leg up on everyone else in this tournament.

As for Perry Central not hosting the tournament, they made the decision to pass on it because they didn't think they had the resources to do it again. They were hosting a tournament they didn't play in and teachers who are already stretched thin couldn't volunteer to do it. This wasn't some big "Perry Central hates everyone" deal like folks want you to believe. They didn't think they had the resources to do it and passed on it. From what I understand, there was a lot of money left on the table by passing on the tournament.

Cheer up, folks! Those tin-foil hats are probably really cold about right now.

Bumping for visibility

Why did they wait till 3 weeks before the tournament to let everyone know. That was very irresponsible if you ask me.
#26
An excuse, I mean answer, coming to you Reds#1Fan in 3... 2... 1...
#27
I bet Reds#1Fan is right. They WAITED until three weeks before the tournament and said they didn't want to have it. They probably knew for at least a year or two they weren't going to host it but waited just to make everyone mad.

Like it's been stated on here already: the folks at Perry Central didn't feel they had enough volunteers to host the tournament.

Does it stink they didn't make the call until three weeks before the tournament? Kind of, but I'm sure that four weeks before the tournament they were still planning on hosting it.

Three weeks is plenty of time to tell your bus driver to go another school, but I feel sorry for the folks at Breathitt County that had to put together the tournament on a short-notice like that. I've played a part in planning WYMT's tournament the last few years and it's a year-long process for them. With the folks at BCHS putting this together in less than a month, they're the real losers in this deal. But it's my understanding that Perry usually made about $25k on the tournament. I'm sure the folks at Breathitt ain't losing much sleep over it.

But it's fun chatting with y'all while you're riled up.

Anyone heading over to the Fairce O. Woods Coliseum tomorrow for the games? I may have to cut out of church early to make it to the Hazard/Leslie game. It was a good one last week.

Yeah, I feel very sorry for Breathitt as they get to participate in the All A on their home floor. They are the real losers in this deal. Poor guys. Sad
