Danville 35 Mayfield 21 (2A State Championship)
Ghostofjoey Wrote:I think if Mysonis55 and Jackson Purchase did a better job posting on the message board Mayfield could have won. Those guys were really off their game this week and it showed at state. Just not the typical posting performance we are accustomed to seeing from them this year. They WILL be back though. And they will watch MORE film next year and have even better post game adjustments than EVER.

Danville coaches did a better job studying film , and made adjustments to the simple adjustments :hilarious:

I mean, how many first drives of a ball game, any ball game, do you see the Cards, get a holding penalty, followed by 2 false starts and then have a wr get a ball thrown right into his hands for a first down and then drop the ball to stall the drive with a 3 and out? They couldn't get out of the way of themselves and Danville was a really good team, that was not about to drop their guard and let Mayfield back into the game. I did see where someone that was not a Mayfield fan, posted that there would be a running clock. I think most of our fans corrected him on that. I mean seriously (loud mouths). This is a forum in which people discuss their opinions. If someone has an opinion that one team is better than the other, why are they loud mouths?

What is Mayfield's record against Danville in championship games ?discuss the simple adjustments.

What is Whitley County's record in the state championships? Then don't question others. I will take 22 trips to the finals in 42 years and put that up against most anyone.
Good one right there!
Danville didn't outcoach Mayfield, they had more experienced talent. It's that simple.

I don't see how anyone can say Mayfield was outcoached. I liked their game plan. Danville gave up the pass to secure the run. Cardinals decided to take what was given them. Did a decent job at it too but turnovers hurt.

I think Danville wasn't just the most experienced but the more talented team. Those Ads had a LOT of talent in the skill sets and under rated linemen as well.
I believe the mf mistakes and penalties were a result of danvilles talent and speed... mf was and is not use to seeing speed and talent that is equal if not greater than their own.
Danville should just start renting out Mayfield's home stadium, equipment, jerseys, etc.. cause they OWN this team head to head, point blank, period.

That's alright. Send them down here to play us in 18 and see how that works out.

Hmmmmmmm, seems like you recently said something very similar to that...how did that work out for Mayfield.
:biglmao:
Some people need to learn to win with class, go ahead, beat your chest, and be a jerk, but the same people you step on climbing that ladder, will be there when you fall.
Wow. Get loose on a double reverse and have the refs call an interception a td and suddenly you're the greatest team in the history of high school football. Who knew?
10-1

Over 4 straight decades of playing one another in State Finals and Semifinals (at both places); ironically Mayfield's ONLY win vs Danville has been AT Danville ('02 Semis).

That's crazy when you put it into context of everything GREAT that the Mayfield program has been, is and will always will be. However, for arguments sake; I've been in threads like this before where I've said that Danville is the better program regardless of being behind in titles (although not by much), but when you put the head to head record out there ALONG with how it's accumulated over time....hard to really argue, and I don't think you can to be quite honest. I mean; you can...but, not sure what good it does.

I don't think it means their program is any better. It just seems like it's fate that when the two meet, most times the stronger team appears to be Danville that year. It's hard to be much better than 22 title appearances in 42 years. For instance, what do you think would have been the outcome had Danville met up with Mayfield in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015? It's just strange how it works out that way. All I know for sure is that they were better this year.

I've always seen both programs as examples of the long time blue blood of KHSAA Football. Danville has most years had the upper hand when they played because they were the better team that year. Some years, like the ones you mentioned, Mayfield was far better than the Ads they just never played.

The only State Title I would say that Mayfield has where Danville was the best team in the state would have been 1993. Prestonsburg played the perfect game to beat probably the best Danville team of all time in the semi-finals.

If some Admiral fans or Cardinal bashers are going off it's probably because they took the overconfidence by some as just that.

I think Mayfield will continue their run next year and probably for years to come because they keep on reloading with talent and tradition.

Very seldom does Coach Morris ever get out coached. And by "very seldom" I mean NEVER. I'm just sayin'.

How many Whitley County fans win championships by making simple adjustments after watching a film? change the subject just like lame and arrogant fans do. if Mayfield went on a losing streak you'd jump on another bandwagon :lame: :hilarious::hilarious:

broken record. you'll get spanked again. lol

and some need to learn how to lose with class instead of making excuses.
Danville has pretty much owned Mayfield that's a fact. No shame in losing to a good program like Danville. However, I would venture to say if they met every year, Mayfield would win more than 50% of the time. Danville has struggled over the years and just these last 2 years have they had the kind of success that they were accustomed too. Most of the Mayfield people that I know have had great respect for Danville's football program. We'll see what the future holds for both teams.
Live look-in from the Whitley County command center
This is better than a episode of Jerry Springer! The Ads won and were better or equal to us in every single phase of the game period. There is no if this but that to it. Why the banter back and forth from my guys is puzzling because we lost. Danville right now is to us what we are to Beechwood. All we can do is try again sometime in the future.

I stand behind the statement about the adjustments. I think the coaches put them in, they just don't get on the field themselves. As far as bad years, anyone who knows me knows that is bs. In 2007 & 2008, I didn't miss a game. Even went to Louisville to watch them surprised Holy Cross. I watched them self destruct at Frankfort and then almost pull it out at Crittendon County.
This ^^^^^^^ is one of the good Mayfield fans. Respectful. You have a great program, kids, coaches. Sometimes a team has your # for awhile. I would venture to say MayfieldCardinal played in the Red and Black.
Kracken Wrote:Live look-in from the Whitley County command center

That was awesome.
He did in fact it play in the red and black. Been a long while though.
Kracken Wrote:Live look-in from the Whitley County command center

That takes a lot of creativity.

I think most people respect Mayfield and fans like you.

Danville made better adjustments and hurt your pride.
No, Danville didn't have to make adjustments. They played like they had been playing. They really didn't have to change as we were chasing them and couldn't even get out of the way of ourselves. It was check or checkmate from the first drive on.
