Danville 35 Mayfield 21 (2A State Championship)
#1
Final.

1. To the Poster who said they felt great after seeing film and had all the answers to Van Cleave . . . How does it look now?

2. Danville did what they do all the time. Take the ball away. Score from anywhere. Play tough Defense.

3. I've said it before. You can scheme for Van Cleave but can't simulate his speed even if you have a track champion of your own.

4. Mayfield never quit. Give those kids all the credit. Never hung their heads and kept trying.

5. 10-1.

That's all at the moment.

Congrats Danville

I heard that Van Cleave kid was fast...was he fast? I heard he was fast!!
#5
Congrats to Danville, and to Mayfield on a great season! The Admiral resurrection is officially complete, Ads are back.
#6
Congrats Danville you where the better team. They executed very well. Mayfield keep your heads up I'm proud. They never quit.
#7
But mysonis55 watched all the film and knew how to shut down Van Cleave with a few easy adjustments. Why oh why didn't he share that with the Mayfield coaching staff?

Congrats Ads. The better team won today.

Called this early in the season. Danville is to explosive on offense and their defense covers the entire field with their speed. VanCleave is the fastest kid I’ve ever seen.

The line play by Mayfield today was subpar... and the Mayfield team just came out a little flat. Danville was explosive and played a clean game. Of course there were some questionable call, you’re going to get that in a game with no replays. Overall, a frustrating experience for a Mayfield fan because we could have played so much better. But you have to give credit where credit is due... Danville was the better team today. I’m sure we will come back and see ya next year... same time, same place

Let’s go Danville!! I think Van Cleave proved any of his doubters wrong today. He is the real deal and so are the rest of the Admirals. I’ve liked Danville all year and I should have stuck with it in my prediction.

Mayfield has a great program and I have no doubts they will be in the top 2 or 3 in 2A again next year.

Credit to Danville. They were the better team today. They made plays and executed better than Mayfield and deserved the win. Mayfield just couldn't get out of their own way with penalties, turnovers, and poor decisions. As great as VanCleave is, I thought Danville's qb was the difference. His ability to make plays with his legs and extend plays was a huge factor in this outcome.

As a Mayfield fan, I couldn't be prouder of my team and my program. No shame in making it to state and falling short. Great season and a great group of young men.

Congratulations again to Danville. I hope we see you again this time next year.

Congrats to Ads

Congrats to Danville.

Danville was a tough team and VanCleave was spectacular.

The QB for D was the difference with his running and throwing. He sets it up for VanCleave.

Pitiful calls. That td was not and the 2 pt conversion looked questionable. Correct calls by the ref's would make the game better for both teams.

Danville you are the State Camps.

Congrats to Danville

Congrats Ad fans, the Ads won all phases of the game and are a truly worthy champion. Great year Cards, didn’t expect to make it this far this year early on but we improved weekly. Hopefully we will be back again soon

That's the problem they didn't scheme for Vancleave like they did Milton Wright. On the radio show before the game Mayfield radio crew asked one of the coaches if they would play Vancleave like they did Milton Wright, and double him every play. The coach said no. Didnts seem to think he warranted the same kind of attention as Wright. I was worried when I heard that cause I have seen enough film on Vancleave. They must have thought they could tackle him in space one on one. I didn't like the decision to punt directly to him like they did once.

Where does Vancleave have offers from I'd love to watch him when I'm actually rooting for him instead of against. Would be less painfull lol.

Congrats to Danville. They came to play. Game was won on the line of scrimmage. We got our tails kicked on both sides of the ball. We couldn’t get our running game going to open up the pass and do what we do. Coming into this game we were averaging 205 rushing yards per game. Ended the game with 76. When your losing the line of scrimmage battle on both sides of the ball for most of the game it’s safe to say it’s gonna be a long day. Lots of miscues and missed tackles. This definitely isn’t the Mayfield team I have seen play all year. But I must say, I’m very proud of their season. Most didn’t think we would make it this far but they got better ever week and jus fell short today. Good season Redbirds! We shall return!

Way to go Danville! You did what I said you would do ALL season long. crow for all.

Now Mr doug, even you know that 1 still frame means nothing in football. There is a video showing the whole play, I think you'll see what I mean.

I watched the video. The Mayfield defender took the ball as they went out of the end zone.

Either way Danville was the best team, and arrogant fans sitting somewhere crying in their beer should have some crow to go with it.

Would you honestly call that a catch?
#28
I'd like a recap of the film study that was going to shut VanCleave down Smile

freeze it and see if the receiver had the ball in his hands when his foot touched the end zone.

Mayfield was beaten by a better team and beaten in every phase of the game. They did not look like the team that had beaten CAL but Danville was the reason. Great teams can make a very good team look bad and that is what happened.
