She also has her master's in teaching from the Cumberlands.
As I said before, I have no reason to lie. She's been a teacher for almost 7 years now. Taught at 3 different high schools before moving back home recently. I didn't even mention the school that offered her that so it wouldn't be seen as a shot at that school.
The most she ever made in a year teaching is 29K.
You can believe it or not, that's up to you. Even if teachers made 40K it wouldn't be worth it.

Whatever system she is in must be the lowest paying system in the state. Get out of it now! Whitley County starts (with her certification) at $44,500. Corbin is $46,000. She can make much more than is she wanted to move.

I looked up 1 of area schools pay scale and a 1st year teacher with bachelors degree makes $35,855 or $193.81 a day.

You act like you can get a job at Whitley or Corbin easy. That is almost impossible with the amount of teachers in this area. It's a bad job with little pay and definitely not worth the hassle.

But I have not lied.
Double checked today. She has her master's. Was offered 1st grade job starting at 23K.
She also applied to the schools mentioned above and has been turned away the past 2 years because of no open positions.
As she told me, a teaching degree is useless living in this area. Whitley County told her there were over 20 applications in right now waiting for calls on jobs to come open.
I'll leave it there.

The starting pay at Middlesboro is roughly 32k now, and thats with strictly a BA. That doesn't seem like a great deal of money, but a teacher works 180 days a year, 180 days at 8 hours a day is 1,440 hours, divide that by 32k and its 22$/hr. What other job can you have all summer off, every holiday, and snow days, and make 22$/hr? It's not that bad of a deal honestly.

Oh, no doubt. I'm not taking it personally, just wanted to make it clear of the RIDICOLOUS over she received.
That questionable thing rhius particular district does is allow there principals to make offers which happened in her case. I'm not sure if that's the norm or not

Never heard of that, usually a district wide set salary, as it should be, at least in K-5 education since all teachers have the same degree.

That is what I don't understand.
I didn't know principals could just offer you a certain salary based in what they want. But I swear on my BGR account that this happened Confusednicker:

I know there are a few coaches who are 100 day guys that will have to go, such as Phillip Haywood and Mark Brown not to mention many many more that I don't know about who are doing the same. There will also be guys who are close to retirement that would have stayed to coach but now will probably retire so they can still get their full benefits. I'm surprised we haven't discussed this with all the KTRS talk and such. What are your thoughts?

I’ll be gone..

Dont know any teachers that only work 8 hour days. More like 12-13. Especially coaches that really teach. Then regular teachers have to work after school for clubs, grade papers, special education paperwork, or whatever. Dont know any around this area hardly at all that put in 8 hour days.

You’re right, in order to be effective you can’t do it all just as school, but you’re only at school 8 hours a day. In the system i work in, after school programs and clubs are volunteer and coaches are paid for their extra time, while it’s not enough, that’s not their duty as a teacher.

There is no rule that says you must be a teacher to be a head coach. Some schools prefer it, but it is not a prerequisite. They can retire and still get paid the same stipend they always have to coach.

Brother Xavier Wrote:Ok...I stand corrected. The way I understood it...once retired...a retiree couldn't substitute or be apart of the state employment system altogether. But this reads they can but under the new retirement criteria.

It's the same way they do it now. If a coach retired from teaching he still gets "supplemental" coaching pay to stay on as a head coach. There is no difference in how it is done now or with the new proposal. Anything under "supplemental" pay has zero to do with their other employment.

One of my good friends was just offered a kindergarten position. She has he masters.
Starting pay? 23k

The biggest problem with teaching? There's to many of them, at least in this area. Several people I know with teaching degrees are sitting waiting for somebody to die or retire before they can get a job.

And, I can name five individuals right off the top of my head that got their degree to teach, did their student teaching & decided that was not for them and got out of teaching in to another line of work. Not everyone is capable of going in to a classroom and teaching. :truestory:

Tell me, honestly, what do you think my other account is?
Ask any mod here or even the owner of the sitte to look it up for you.
This is my only account. Your infatuation is borderline stalker.

I love the attention though.

Agreed.
I wouldn't take 75K a year to put up with kids all day.
However I would like the 4 months of vacation
