McCracken County
#1
If McCracken County wins out the rest of the season. Since they have already won the District for the 5th time and they win the Region. Will anyone think they had a decent season?

Fact is, that district has no real powers of football. The Stangs should win it every single year.

5th largest high school in the state, per KHSAA data.

Tica, why do you always want to go there? PTHS has more talent enrolled at that school than McCracken has ever had. Who's underachieving?????

The other night on Sunday Night Football, Coach Dungy said if you want to win you need to get better players. Once McCracken keeps a coach over the long hall and installs a system that every coach at every level in the county will adhere to and we get more of the Kids in the County District to come to McCracken we will win, as well as have open enrollment as before.

Could be. Should be. A powerhouse!

There are hardly any lineman in that school. We have multiple 195 lbs kids on the line right now. We have a decent class at 9th grade right now. We have potential. But the word powerhouse is ridiculous. Go walk the hallways during school. A 1000 Xbox playing 150 lb kids that want nothing to do with the hard work of football.

A good season but that all they don't have the tools to complete against better talented schools from Louisville

The only school around thoses part that can complete is Mayfield .

Took a look at the Roster of McCracken county on Maxpreps, looks like they have about 30 or so 200lb plus players. To be successful at their level those 250lb. guys need to muscle up and lose a pound or two to get stronger and faster. Notice also that they don't have a lot of height on the team. That Illinois team they played had a lot of 6'5" or more 250ib. to 300lb. guys. That sure helps in the push up the middle against 6ft. Quarterbacks.

This has all been discussed. So again, look at the county's history:
Heath had a couple of great years in the 80's including the only state title amongst the 3 county schools. Had some decent teams in the 90's but awful towards the end.
Lone Oak had a historical run to close out the last 6 years of non-consolidation. Before this they were doormats, other than a few decent seasons in the 80's and early 90's.
Reidland had no successful runs, one good year and maybe two other decent seasons (pushing it).

It's asinine to think three non traditional football schools can combine to become an instant "powerhouse" in 6A football. The football program is still in a critical stage as to which direction it will go. This all depends on establishing good developmental programs and coaching staffs throughout. In general, the five Mustang football seasons have been carryover from the success of those Lone Oak teams. Kids were excited to get into football and only time will tell if that continues to improve or not.

The real fact:
Since 1969, the county as a whole hasn't been known for powerhouse football. Number of bodies doesn't always translate into major success. Bringing 10 schools together wouldn't help if the programs, traditions, or community support of "powerhouse" football doesn't already exist. Floyd Central just consolidated from two subpar programs, should they be competing for the 3A title? No, and they are far from it.

The bottom line:
Spring sports has always been the dominate force in the McCracken County area. There was major success before within several of these programs. So it makes perfect sense that baseball, softball, and tennis have been state contenders every year of existence.

Football, along with the other fall and winter sports, will need to improve at the developmental levels (little leagues & middle school) to see any major changes. These sports will continue to be very competitive, especially within the region, but will not be dominate year in and year out. Volleyball is the exception as it seems to have established a solid feeder program. But even they have big elephants in the room when it comes to state (Assumption, Sacred Heart, Mercy & Notre Dame).

Final thought:
Consider the past, understand the present, and temper expectations from that information. McCracken County Mustang football has been successful to this point with hopes for continual improvement.

It's no secret that D1 is the weakest of the districts in 6A. Also it's true, if all the programs stay as they are the Mustangs should be favorites each year. I would agree that currently there are no real powers. But we should also acknowledge Henderson County's reputation and accomplishments prior to 2014.

The Colonels had plenty of very successful seasons before the downturn. They had a couple of semifinal appearances. Multiple regional final appearances. Multiple 9+ win seasons while being ranked top 15-30 in the state for 9 out of 10 years. Most should agree that they've made themselves known in the big class (AAA, AAAA, or 6A depending on the years) as much as anyone not named T, X or Male.
